Last week, Mark Ronson & The Business Intl's member Rose Elinor Dougall mysteriously asked for Australian cover suggestions on Facebook. It turned out it was for Triple J's "Like A Version" feature, and apparently rather than choosing a random SAW-era Kylie song "for the LOLZ", the band took the cool route and covered Tame Impala's [...]

Photo by G. Rose Elinor Dougall Happy 25th birthday to Rose Elinor Dougall who celebrates her special day on March 13. Formerly the lead singer of The Pipettes, Rose Elinor Dougall is also a member of Mark Ronson's super group The Business Int'l. She lends her voice on the fantastic album "Record Collection," singing on tracks such as "You Gave Me Nothing" and "The Night Last Night." Rose's 2nd solo album will be released in 2011. Happy birthday Rose! [...]

I wasn't really in to We Are The Pipettes-era Pipettes and I think that how they are now, with Gwenno and her sister Ani as the quite good, more 80s-inspired and much less-shrill pop group The Pipettes and Rose Elinor Dougall with her moodier, lush-orchestrated songs, is very good. Stop/Start/Synchro was one of the highlights from her album Without Why and has been around since 2009 but it's been polished and reswizzled a bit to make it even more 'looking moodily in to the distance'-worthy. The line "but first you need to know that aaah-I'll never be her" [...]

Another batch of (really nice) songs found Friday evening. + overlord - Keep It from the Baby + Calm Paradox - Boots + Rose Elinor Dougall - Start Stop Synchro (Dark Dark Horse Remix) + Return To Mono [...]

| Undercovered is a new series of posts where we ask our favourite musicians to wax lyrical about a song they think is deserving of more attention | By Jeremy Jensen ( The Very Most ) It's funny how a style of music can be revived and improved upon, years after its supposed heyday. I know it's blasphemous to even talk like this, but I like Teenage Fanclub a little more than I like Big Star, I like Stereolab more than I like Neu!, and I like Midlake more than I like [...]

by Nicole Rallis After Mark Ronson’s all-star set at the Défilé Etam Lingerie fashion show in Paris knocked our socks off last week—in which the likes of The Kills, Gossip’s Beth Ditto, Karen Elson, and others rocked the runway—it got us thinking about other innovative designers who are enlisting equally fabulous musicians to showcase the catwalk. Check out four stellar videos, as well as the aforementioned clip as a bonus, that we’ve culled from the Web of Cat Power, Sonic Youth, La Roux, and Björk as they aurally enchant onlookers by [...]
Watch: The Kills, Karen Elson, More Live-Soundtrack Fashion Show At the Défilé Etam Lingerie 2011 fashion show in Paris on Monday, Mark Ronson & the Business International appear to have stolen the scantily-clad runway extravaganza by providing a live soundtrack co-starring a host of brilliant performers, including The Kills, Karen Elson, Gossip’s Beth Ditto, Boy George, Andrew Wyatt, Spank Rock, Joey Starr, Rose Elinor Dougall, and many more. Hearing Ronson’s synth-backed arrangement of Elson’s “The Ghost Who Walks” and Alison Mosshart’s first post-Dead Weather performance (starts around 5:50) is particularly fun. Enjoy the full 19-minute set [...]
Nothing warms the heart more than listening to the beautiful Rose Elinor Dougall of The Pipettes . Their soul-clap rendition of this traditional christmas carol is a lovely addition to anyone's xmas playlist. The Pipettes - In The Bleak Midwinter
In the five years or so I've been doing this, I can't remember a better year for songs. I actually spent most of Saturday ordering a top 100, went a little crazy and decided nobody needed me to rank seven hours of tracks. So here's a top 50. Every single one of these tracks is incredible, and yes, even Ke$ha. For the record, I allowed two songs per band in a few special cases because not including both Sally Seltmann jams would be a lie (though I did cut two Best Coast songs). Also, No. 51 is Lady Gaga ("Telephone") [...]
Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited along to probably the most famous recording studios in the world. Abbey Road opened up both of its main studios for the red carpet premiere of ‘Epic’, a short film by Ridley Scott Associates, Channel 4, American Express and Mark Ronson and the Business Intl. The evening started swimmingly with a champagne reception in the wonderful studio 2. Canapés came thick and fast, we decided the chili beef ones and the mini fish and chips were the most desirable by far. [...]
Fresh off the release of sterling debut album Without Why [ review ], the tireless Rose Elinor Dougall is heading straight for LP2: she'll be recording it in December. "Hanging Around," above, filmed at a just-released Groupee session back in March, is expected to be on it; as long as Dougall's voice sounds as great as it does here, she can count on prominent back-to-back Rawkblog album of the year list positioning. (Wonder if "Leave" will make the cut as well?) See the rest of the session, including three Without Why jams, after the [...]
Former Pipette Rose Elinor Dougall has announced that the next single from her debut album "Without Why" will be the track 'Start/Stop/Synchro'. The song was originally released in 2009 but a new mix has been made with Tom Elhirst and the single will be released early next...

This Week, The Hundred In The Hands, Cosmo Jarvis, Rose Elinor Dougall, Marina Gasolina, The Guilty Hands and rioting. ______________________________ ______________________________ ______________________ THE HUNDRED IN THE HAND S-Free Remix. The Hundred In The Hands are giving away a fantastic Tiger & Woods remix of their new single 'Commotion.’ The new single is taken from the debut LP, to be released on Warp on November 15 2010. [...]
Rose Elinor Dougall (Live Groupee Session) Ex-Pipette Rose Elinor Dougall and her band, the Distractions, stopped by Groupee studios earlier this year to play a few cuts and a B-side off her somewhat under-the-radar solo record, Without Why . This video of Dougall and friends playing the LP’s opening track off, “Start/Stop/Synchro,” is my favorite of the collection, but be sure to check out all 4 clips here if you like what you hear. Frank Yang The "see something new" mandate largely fell apart on the third night of Halifax Pop Explosion , but with good reason; when you get the opportunity to see Basia Bulat perform with a symphony, you take it. Bulat was the third artist to be brought together with Symphony Nova Scotia as part of the Pop Explosion, Ron Sexsmith and Owen Pallett had done so in past years, and it was Pallett who crafted the orchestral arrangements of Bulat's songs for this performance which took place in [...]

Photo by David Greenwald To say I've been waiting for this album since 2006 would be a stretch. (At that point, I was waiting in my favorite polka-dot dress for another Pipettes set.) But since seeing Rose Elinor Dougall, formerly a Pipette, formerly "Rosay," play a rare solo set at the Galaxy Room at SXSW in March, there've been few albums I've anticipated more. Well worth it: Without Why is a pitch-perfect collection, the Pipette's lovable gimmicky tossed aside for Smiths-era guitar work and Broadcast-inflected moody Britpop anthems. We've heard many of [...]

The coming week is stuffed with great album releases as we got Mark Ronson, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne etc. all putting out highly anticipated albums. And sadly for Mark Ronson and his The Business INTL the only album I will care about reviewing tomorrow Monday is Lil Wayne's "I'm Not a Human Being". I dunno, Mark and I do get along, but I think it's more on a graphic and experimental basis rather than pure musical, the artwork for "Record Collection" is impeccable and the feature constellations, like the one on the title track with Wiley and [...]
"You Gave Me Nothing," taken from British producer Mark Ronson 's forthcoming album Record Collection , is, to paraphrase Popjustice , the best proper duet I've heard in months. Not that there's been much competition--if we're just talking about balanced duets, not featuring appearances, what else has there been, save Robyn and Snoop Dogg, since, say, spring? 05 You Gave Me Nothing (feat. Rose Elinor Dougall & Andrew Wyatt) by poppostergirl [...]
