Rose Elinor Dougall, aka Rosay from The Pipettes, has released her first single, Another Version Of Pop Song , giving us all a taste of what solo stardom has to offer. As most of you probably know, The Pipettes line-up was rearranged a couple of months back: Riot-Becki and Rosay were replaced (tragically!) by Anna and Ani. So while we're waiting to hear new music from the new Pipettes, check out the new track from Rose below; it's nice, low-key song, not as retro (or catchy) as her work with The Pipettes, but her voice is just as adorable. Polaroids From the Web So 2004 - " I think the prerequisite for being in the music industry is not liking music and playing the corporate game ": a dirlo è tristemente Alan McGee , che ha annunciato il ritiro dal band management.

Thursday, October 30, 2008 Well, tonight I'm off to see TV On The Radio at Stubb's. My plan is to go and do nothing but have the sort of fun that doesn't involve a camera and a note pad, so don't expect anything more than a sentence or two about how it all went down. Should be good though. Anyone else planning on going? At any rate, let's get on with some new material from Rose Elinor Dougall. You [...]

I was pretty disappointed with the news earlier in the year of The Pipettes breaking up, as I thought they were an exciting group who had a lot of fun with their music, and brought some unique quirks and personality to their brand of pop. Well, they're not dead as they've recouped their members, but I don't think I can look at that group the same way again. But what about Rosay and RiotBecki? What are they up to now? Well, Rosay - just Rose Elinor Dougall now, thanks - [...]
Rose Elinor Dougall "Another Version of Pop Song" - This is a song about a tricky emotional situation: You're in love, or at least something like being in love, but circumstances are forcing you to think too much about the future, and it makes you tense, paranoid, and fearful. Maybe it's your partner being too clingy, maybe you're imagining all this pressure because you can't help but freak out when it comes to commitment. But either way, this bit of negativity subtly taints everything, and even when you're caught up in this tidal wave of [...]

Photo by Libi Pedder So - I'm currently in a weird sort of position where after a fairly hectic few weeks of wholly bloggable stuff, I've finally gotten a chance to take a breath and have realized that I have nothing to blog about. Which is not to say that there's nothing worthwhile happening in music, just that I've not had the chance to listen to anything in the last while sufficiently that I feel compelled to write about it nor is anything especially newsworthy happening that I can run with (besides Chinese Democracy ! [...]

Lots of great new British music: bright futures & bright ideas below. Rose Elinor Dougall - Another version of Pop song : In The Pipettes there was swing, surf and utter confidence in themselves and pop music. In solo form the personal overcomes the universal taking on an adventure striding with confidence, sweeping, clapping, demanding. Superb. { myspace , release Dec. 8th} Sleeping States - Trumpet Calls : More bounce, erratic than Sleeping States's usual folk dream-scapes dulled by repetition (but not dull, no). Yes, [...]
Rose Elinor Dougall "Start Stop Synchro" - When it was announced that Rose and Becki were leaving the Pipettes, many people were right to be skeptical about the future of that band. Sure, the group had been designed with a revolving door of lead vocalists in mind, but the two were crucial to the appeal of the band. Their personalities and style slightly tweaked the girl group dynamic, and kept the project in check by grounding it in contemporary indie music despite the over-the-top retro affectations. Rose was particularly magnetic and interesting. Of the three women, she [...]
