NASUM Farewell Tour Dates Announced

We were elated when Nasum announced they would be reuniting for a special twentieth anniversary farewell tour. Rotten Sound screamer Keijo Niinimaa will be performing all the vocals on the tour. It's a short run of dates, with only a few cities announced so far. I'm not sure if this is the only round of ...

NASUM NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES!!!

Back in October, Nasum announced that they were officially breaking-up (which everyone kind of assumed they had already done but I'm not complain), and were celebrating that break-up with a farewell tour, with Rotten Sound's Keijo Niinimaa taking over vocals for Mieszko Talarczyk, who tragically passed away in the 2004 Asian tsunami. Now the first batch [...]

Sean Gresens' Top 10 Albums of 2011

Fuck long-winded reviews. This isn't the place for it. This is a best-of list. Especially with the chaotic violence you'll find below, you'd probably get through five songs quicker than reading a shitty paragraph about them. However, I won't be a total dick and leave you out in the cold. You still get a sum-up ...

NASUM ANNOUNCE REUNION, BREAK-UP

Legendary grinders Nasum (the name is Swedish for "sinus infection") have announced a reunion.... sort of. The band abruptly (and very understandably) called it a day following the tragic death of guitarist/vocalist Mieszko Talarczyk in the 2004 Asian tsunami - but now they've announced that they will, at last, play a handful of farewell shows to [...]

Grind masters NASUM Announce 2012 Farewell Shows

Some of you may be too young to remember the incredible grind band Nasum, who ceased performing in 2004 when vocalist/guitarist Mieszko Talarczyk went missing after going on vacation in Thailand in December of 2004, where a huge tsunami hit. The band ceased to exist after that, feeling they would no longer be able to ...

Sunday Slaylist: Grinding Aftermath

Okay, okay, so technically this week's Slaylist is compilation was put together back at the start of the summer, but Grind To Death just uploaded it to their Bandcamp page yesterday, so now's as good a time as any to make a noise about it. Grinding Aftermath is a 69-track grind compilation put together by [...]

ABORTED FLATLINE, GLOBALLY

ABORTED - 'Global Flatline' Trailer
Aborted are one of those bands I honestly have never listened to enough to have an opinion about their music, but the fact that their upcoming release, Global Flatline, features guest appearances from the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder's Trevor Strnad, Misery Index's Jason Netherton, and Rotten Sound's Keiijo Niinima means that my interest is now [...]

SCIENCE FINALLY ASKS THE QUESTION: "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF METAL?"

A 100% accurate portrayal of the research discussed in this article. In college, I once took a course on literary representations of New York City, and one the texts utilized was Frank Miller's graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns. My point being simply that it was only a matter of time until academia turned its [...]

CRUSTCAKE PICKS - NEW CAKE IN THE OVEN: ROTTEN SOUND - CURSED

ROTTEN SOUND - "Self"
by Chase MacabreIs it just me or is grindcore seeing a serious comeback? Similar to what happened to death metal several years ago, grind is back. Magrudergrind and Nails both released great records last year and the new Wormrot songs matched my high hopes for Dirge. On March 15, another great grind act, Finland's Rotten Sound, unveiled their latest collection of jackhammering ultraviolence,

Rotten Sound- Cursed

Rotten Sound- Cursed ALBUM REVIEW
Rotten Sound's Curse is a loud record. No one can deny that. They have the speedy blast beats, vocals, and guitar riffs every grindcore band should have. However, this LP loses a lot of potential energy in its extremely regulated recording. I know the in-the-moment sound bands like Terrorizer and Napalm Death had is a thing of the past, but even Pig Destroyer is a lot less scheduled than this band. The high-gloss finish on this production and the impressive musicianship will make this album entertaining for a lot of people, which is fine. That's just not what [...]

Stream the New Rotten Sound LP

Stream the New Rotten Sound LP Thanks to the good people at Lambgoat, Rotten Sound's sixth album is up for streaming. Cursed is a pretty unforgiving grindcore record, loaded with a whirlwind of drums and distorted bass. The one shining ray of light in this pit of despair is the high-gloss production on this LP. However, it doesn't make the picture here any easier to look at. If anything, it only give the ugliness of this album more clarity. Look for this album on Relapse records .

Live: Rotten Sound, Trap Them + Gaza @ London Camden Underworld – 12 April 2011

Rotten Sound headlined the Camden Underworld with Trap Them and Gaza in support (plus The Kandidate and Haust but we ignored them). We reviewed the rest though!

Rotten Sound – Cursed

Rotten Sound – Cursed Rotten Sound has been gracious enough to write an album with zero filler, so I will comply with a review in kind. From the first seconds of opening track "Alone", Cursed ( Relapse , 2011) demands you get up and move. Run a mile, chop down a tree, catch your breath during a breakdown, then punch your neighbor in the face. Songs have two speeds: artillery burst grind or death march groove. The production is dry, but that hardly takes away from the ferocious attack. Riffs are a wall of sound but discernable and clear, [...]
