Oooh what a surprise this was. Didn't expect anything like this kind of sound as I pressed the play button. Glass Animals just signed to Kaya Kaya (on XL recordings) and have delivered some pretty impressive stuff on their Soundcloud profile. Self Blown got a hold of them on HumanHuman and got us turned into a frenzy ever since, especially this 'Black Mambo' track we totally recommend : Glass Animals' is the first signing to the new imprint kaya kaya records via xl. They are the perfect collision [...]
By now, you know that Houndmouth holds a special place in our hearts at MOKB. We have booked the band for various shows over the last year through our music booking offshoot MOKB Presents and pushed them on to anyone that would listen. Now, they are getting ready to hit the big time with their debut LP, From the Hills Below the City , out June 4th via Rough Trade . Today, the band released a video for the first single from the [...]

Just Handshakes played their very first Record Store Day instore last year and have again cooked up something special for 2013. But they're keeping it well under wraps. The cheeky buggers... West Yorkshire indie popsters Just Handshakes are gearing up to release brand new record Say It on May 20th. The Leeds foursome's first single from that record, 'London Bound' , has delighted many an ear resulting in spontaneous bouts of serious foot-tapping around the UK (with the odd knee-slap [...]
Image source: Facebook Warning: Wolf Alice's "Bros" has no trace of sports references, brewskies or babes. Rather "Bros" waxes nostalgic about best friends. Reminiscing about wild, good times, lead vocalist Ellie Rowsell sings, "Remember when we cut our hair? We both looked like boys but we didn't care / Stick it out together, like we always do." The Londoners shimmering pop-rock ballad shines, as does Rowsell's fervent, breathy voice. Think of the song as an upgrade from those antiquated [...]

With both Rough Trade’s and Field Day's many years of experience and their common interest of supporting and promoting new and exciting music this collaborative CD will no doubt pique the interest of all souls looking for an introduction to a broad range of new music endorsed by two such reliable entities. Here's something a bit different to listen to as we drift off into our Sunday evenings... Obedient Wives Club are a five piece band from Singapore who belt out songs inspired by guitarist Keith Tan 's 'almost unhealthy obsession' with Phil Spector . Their fuzzy lo-fi indie-pop is brilliantly swoonsome and lead singer, YinQi Lee has a voice, according to her record label, that you'll, "want to make love to." [...]
I finally got around to alphabetising my CDs; that's how bored and skint I've been this Easter weekend. During the sort I found Metronomy 's Nights In EP, a bonus CD that came with Nights Out when bought from Rough Trade , which nicely bridges the wonky bedroom electronics of Pip Paine to the wonky full band sound of Nights In. Here's the highlight, the bonkers The Chase (which also featured on the US iTunes release). Well wonky. [...]
After what has been too long of a wait, our Indiana brethren and recession rockers (thanks to Zach from WLFY for that description) Houndmouth have announced the release of their proper full-length debut, From the Hills Below the City , on June 4th via Rough Trade . The first single from the LP is the shining, Kerouacian cut "On The Road". Listen below.

Palma Violets + Guards @ The Independent, SF 4/23/13
Both Guards and Palma Violets brought an edgy no frills sound to the stage in San Francisco that made us all thank our lucky stars that rock music isn't dead.
Unleashing Animal X, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
And so as the dust settles about what (at least social mediumistically) appeared to be another successful Record Store Day, and the furore surrounding preposterously limited 73 releases subsides, are you ultimately left heavily laden with all that you were after? Did you waste many pounds, or make enough on eBay to polish your conscious? Has all faith been expeditiously restored in that most covetable of physical formats? Well personally, I got to the back of a sidewinding Rough Trade East queue, only to turn back on myself after a half-hour stood roasting in the belatedly estival rays [...]

Record Store Day: Interview with Seamus Fogarty
Take a trip to Seamus Fogarty's Fashion Emporium. Kind of... A G-Man favourite and the mastermind behind God Damn You Mountain , one of the most beautiful folk records released by an Irish artists in some time, Seamus Fogarty is currently touring the UK with Fence Records label-mates James Yorkston and The Pictish Trail . That is, when he's not snooping around and moving his CDs to [...]
Bushy! British Sea Power, O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
Spring may still be struggling to blossom in earnest, although Brighton stalwarts of cult Brit indie-pop British Sea Power floundered not in proffering an evening's worth of potent imitation. Their merch stall strewn with mugs coated in black patinae depicting birds and bees and their stage festooned with darling buds, that it's still light outside by the time we enter the 'Empire would be novel enough on most nights, though Yan, Hamilton et al. really go the whole hog. They begin proceedings with a pretty impromptu acoustic soupçon – a lulling mélange of old, [...]

Record Store Day 2013: Ten Must-Haves
It may not be news to a young generation of musicians and fans that digital music is the new standard, while physical music is on the decline. Despite all this, it comes as a pleasant surprise that vinyl sales last year hit $177 million , their highest level since 1997. What better way to celebrate than by heading over to your favorite shop on Record Store Day this Saturday to pick up some fine new exclusives? You can browse through the RSD-only releases and participating stores over at the official [...]

What Did You Expect? British Sea Power, Machineries of Joy.
Six studio albums deep into their existence, British Sea Power find themselves waving a flag of artistic exclusivity on Machineries of Joy , for this is a band to have earned their rightful place in British indie culture with a string of widely commended releases spouted fresh from from a match-made-in-indie-Heaven rapport with Rough Trade Records. But what is so impressive about Machineries of Joy is that BSP seem keen not to rest on their somewhat eccentric laurels, and instead opt to explore a much warmer sound – a theme most evident on [...]
Watch: British Sea Power - Machineries Of Joy
British Sea Power have always been a band that I have felt deserved a lot more credit then what they always seem to get. Their music is so honest and refreshing and it continues to be that way with their newest release of Machineries of Joy. The album marks the 7th release from the band in a 10 year span and sees them fully hitting their stride. The album does what BSP does best and kind of flies under the radar and delivers one of the best (or Hidden) albums of the year. [...]

Houndmouth – On The Road
Indiana quartet Houndmouth are gearing up to leave the familiar behind and head on tour where most every face will belong to a stranger. New track "On The Road" features deep, steady drums, dirty guitars and vocal harmonies that are sharp, sweet and twangy in all the right measures. The dual voices croon, "I'm goin' down where nobody knows me," but if they keep making tunes this good they won't be able to stay anonymous for long. "On The Road" is off of the group's debut album, From The Hills Below The City [...]
