I may have paid attention at 'has played support to Lucy Rose, King Charles & Kyla La Grange'. This is Hot Feet , 'Under October'. And it may have taken me a minute to get into; as soon as it breaks into something fuller, richer I'm a little bit sold. With early Marling-esque mixed with Mariner's Children vibes, Hot Feet (I LOVE that name by the way) promise to be bigger live and probably something we should all be listening to in these cooler (or wetter) Autumnal days in London. It'll warm your feet and leave you feeling [...]

Germany's latest patron of ambient techno, Pantha Du Prince is currently putting the finishing touches to his collaborative five track album, 'Elements Of Light', with The Bell Laboratory. Set for release on 14th January, 'Elements Of Light' promises to be a futuristic and engaging collection of throbbing bass, precise instrumentation and melody. Clearly influenced by the likes of John Cage, Steve Reich, and Moondog, 'Elements Of Light' is technically a continuous piece of experimental music that has been broken down into five separate sections or elements. In fact, each track has been [...]

Wild Belle take us on a tour of their favourite UK record shops, including Rough Trade West (you know, the one that you can hardly fit a singer-songwriter in, let alone an in-store every night), as they rummage through a selection of influential vinyl they hold most dearly. Watch that clip above and check out the NY-via-Chi City duo's new video for 'It's Too Late' below.

Chris and Cosey hit the sweet spot between Clarke & Ballard (any sufficiently advanced technology is undistinguishable from magic, and any sufficiently diffused technology is undistinguishable from furniture – NB the latter was never stated by JGB, but rather ascribed to him by, say, Warren Ellis, in his criticism of Ballard’s ‘banal future’ Cf. ‘ How to See the Future’ speech). Neither of these (admittedly caricatured) situations/positions is desirable, because they are both disempowering. Chris and Cosey’s portrayal of technology resemble an animists’ interaction with nature – organic & complex, in a McLuhan or Cybernetic way, but full [...]

Melancholy yet seemingly catchy in its own way, the newest release from the Louisiana singer/songwriter finds its soul with flowing slide guitars and smooth, unaltered vocals.
TOY are another band I have had my eye on for awhile and are set to finally release their self-titled debut album. When listening to TOY I am reminded of The Horrors and the dark fuzzy type of music that can be created in a way that hypnotizes you.

Louisville, KY recession rockers Houndmouth released their self-titled debut EP this week through Rough Trade. To coincide with the EP's release, the band released a new video for "Penitentiary". The clip was directed by our friend and fellow Louisvillian Zach Hart from the music blog We Listen For You . The group will be touring the US as the support for Dry The River starting September 19 that runs into the middle of October.

"Violet Bones, a sweaty punk-rock group from Cambridge have a free download of their track ‘Bullets’ available! The song is from their debut album ‘Decline of Vaudeville’ which will be released 5th of November. They have signed a deal with Global/Rough Trade and the boys are also being shipped off to Germany in September to perform at the Reeperbahn festival to promote their upcoming releases. This year has seen Violet Bones complete two full UK tours, look out for the support slot for The Stranglers on 29th September at Jubilee Park, Huntingdon. They are getting great tastemaker reactions from Online [...]

Itʼs sophomore time for this young, country tinged songsmith from Alabama. It was with relish that I approached listening to this, the follow up to 2010ʼs Paupers Field . In itself his debut was pretty marvellous and I could only hope that a LeBlanc with a few more road miles under his feet could deliver a bit more of the substance and weight that his Muscle Shoals/ Fame Studios background promised. Job done. Cast the Same Old Shadow glides and sways with an effortless beauty and grace that sees him well on the way to [...]
Dylan LeBlanc - Second album of haunting Neil Young-styled alt-country and soul- bearing folk is steeped in LeBlanc's southern roots: he grew up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, surrounded by the legendary sidemen of FAME studios where his father worked...new project, the follow up to 2010's acclaimed "Pauper's Field", was recorded at FAME an co-produced with Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris)..."songs of love and lost innocence marinated in melancholy" says The Guardian UK // Release : Cast The Same Old Shadow (August 21, Rough Trade) // Sounds like : LeBlanc's personal demons and [...]

Once upon a time rock critics were bullies who didn't want to let the electronic music community on their playground. It was their turf and they wanted to keep the computer nerds and drugged-up ravers out. EDM was viewed as inferior and generally misunderstood because it came from a different ethos than the rock continuum. Those days are long gone though, with electronic music now accepted. Touted by those who once dismissed. It could no longer be denied that it was a premier, boundary-pushing art form which opened up new possibilities for everyone making music. It was a watershed moment [...]
I would 'Never'! Rough Trade, 2012 5.2/ 10.0 The real reason being a “music critic” is so boss is it gives me a chance to categorize, compartmentalize, arrange, define, and opine about which music is dope and which is lame; that's sooooo really just the beginning. I mean, wouldn’t it [...]
Following TOY ’s string of melodically delicious album tracks, “Left Myself Behind” and “ Motoring ”, the band continue to impress with another limited 12” single, “Dead & Gone”. More casual and droning than the previous tracks we’ve heard so far, but the finale of guitars and key change at the end is awesome. My only wish is that they mixed even louder guitars and bass all the way through to the end. The band’s self-titled debut album is due September 10 through Heavenly Recordings [...]

Tread warily, record buyer. In an effort to have something – anything – fresh on the shelves to coincide with Antony’s Meltdown curatorship, along comes Cut the World . A selection of live recordings from Antony’s 2011 concert collaboration with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra, bolstered by one new studio recording (the title track), it’s disappointingly less than the sum of its parts. With very few, usually personal exceptions (we’ll stake a claim for Johnny Cash at San Quentin and Modern Lovers ‘Live’ ), the live album is, of course, invariably only of interest [...]
El día de mañana Antony & the Johnsons lanzará su quinto álbum a través de Secretly Canadian/Rough Trade y justo para comenzar con la promoción del álbum, se acaba estrenar el video para “Cut the World” -canción escrita originalmente para la opera The Life and Death of Marina Abramovi ć-, bajo la dirección de NABIL -quien ha trabajado con Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, etcétera-.
