Alaska In Winter By Stef Siepel The Weekly Froth! A weekly take on six tracks, most of which have recently popped up somewhere in the blogosphere. Bit of a mixed bag with a slight leaning towards house, disco, and remixes, but generally just anything that for some reason tickled the writer's fancy. Track of the week: 'The Coldest Day in the World' by Alaska in Winter I loved the album Holiday by Alaska in Winter , really enjoyed that [...]

I'd been hearing about it for years, the return of '80s sounds to popular music, but due to my relative disconnect from new music, it took a while to hear it for myself. But, well, it's definitely there (Which I'm sure you already know). And you know what? I don't mind in the slightest. Essentially the vibe I get is that a bunch of people took the good sounds/tones/effects from the mainstream '80s and left behind all the cheesiness while applying them to interesting, late '80s early '90s alternative rock songwriting, with a dash of thoroughly [...]

The Grammys are going indie-rock again this year! The music of Bon Iver is featured on this new commercial for the Grammys, along with a snow-ghost of Justin Vernon. In celebration of the band's 40th anniversary, The Vinyl Factory has released a 123 vinyl featuring two new remixes of classic Roxy Music tunes. Listen to the chilled out Lindstrom and Prins Thomas remix of "Avalon" below: M.I.A. [...]
To celebrate 40 years since the release of Roxy Music's eponymous debut album in 1972, the band have allowed two of their biggest hits to be remixed. Available today, on a deluxe 12" or exclusively through Beatport, Todd Terje's edit of Roxy's 'Love Is The Drug' gives the evergreen club classic a contemporary twist and [...]

Som nämnts tidigare släpper The Vinyl Factory tolvtumssingel med Todd Terje- och Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas -remixer på Roxy Music -klassikerna Love is the drug och Avalon den 30 januari, vilken kan förbeställas här . Nedan hittar du nu de sistnämndas episka bidrag.

This hypnotic space disco rework of Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas' for Roxy Music's 1982 song "Avalon" is out today though The Vinyl Factory . The remix is taken from a new 12" single that also features Todd Terje's superb re-edit of Roxy's "Love Is The Drug". We already post it here . Great stuff!
Songs and remixers don't often pair off this perfectly. As a production duo, Norwegian dance dudes Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas specialize in a luxuriant, champagne-dipped form of exotica-informed space-disco. And Roxy Music's mighty 1982 track " Avalon " feels like the most expensive piece of chiffon-lined synth-rock ever recorded. So, naturally, the new Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas remix of "Avalon" is pretty great. Give it a listen below. The remix comes from a new 123 single that also features a Todd Terje edit of Roxy's "Love Is The Drug," which we already posted . That 123, [...]

photo by Eliot Glazer If you are confused by the above picture, don't fret. Ben Gibbard stopped by the annual San Francisco Sketchfest this week to do a piece with Bobcat Goldthwait . Gibbard played guitar behind Goldthwait as he did his best impression of Bono singing "YMCA". It is quite random, but the picture is priceless. New music released today by Denver pop band Tennis . Their new album, Young & Old , will be released on Valentine's [...]

John Talabot - Fin By Stef Siepel The Weekly Froth! A weekly take on six tracks, most of which have recently popped up somewhere in the blogosphere. Bit of a mixed bag with a slight leaning towards house, disco, and remixes, but generally just anything that for some reason tickled the writer's fancy. Track of the Week: 'So Will Be Now...' by John Talabot feat. Pional Love the start with those vocals, and love how quickly he adds to it with the [...]
Gotta love the Far West . Not only did the band release one of my favorite records of 2011 , but the guys have just recently recorded a stellar cover of Roxy Music's 1982 hit "More Than This." Yes, THAT "More Than This"...the one whose video had Bryan Ferry dancing amidst tiny fires on stage. Oh, and the leather-jacket-and-bowtie outfit. Epic! People need to start wearing bowties with leather jackets. Hmm, I am overdue for a New Year's resolution... Anyway, the Far West eschew all the 80s-ness of "More Than [...]

Love Is The Drug by Roxy Music has possibly one of the best bass lines in a song ever. It's awesome. It the kind of bass line that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning and take on the world. Something like that anyway... Todd Terje seems to have been putting out a lot of new stuff recently, and this remix is definitely one of the best of the tracks floating around at the moment. Subtly remixed, still keeping that classic Brian Ferry chorus vocal in there, this is a stunning piece of disco dynamite. Psychedelic drum [...]

If Todd Terje isn't the man to be right now, I don't know who is. The Norwegian producer is going from strength to strength with his latest original record just being released to expected acclaim from DJ's and critics alike. The Vinyl Factory seems to be fond of the Oslo disko sound of the moment, as they commissioned fellow Norwegians, Lindstrom & Prins Thomas for the B Side. Both sides are equally essential to make the 180 gram pressing worth it's weight in gold, with Terje turning the '75 classic into a modern sounding, [...]

Oslo producer rework's Roxy Music's 1975 single.

A big week for former Roxy Music leader Bryan Ferry! Newsday reports that the dapper, 66-year-old glam veteran got married, for the second time, to 29-year-old Amanda Sheppard on January 4. The ceremony went down on the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Caribbean territory that I've never heard of. Only true iconoclasts, it should be noted, get married on Wednesdays. Mazeltov! Now let's all Google Image Search Amanda Sheppard. In other Ferry-related news, Norwegian space disco master Todd Terje and masterly Norwegian space-disco team Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas have each remixed the [...]

Roxy Music: "Love Is The Drug" [Todd Terje disco dub] More Todd Terje? Yes, please! Following on from his rework of Bryan Ferry's "Alphaville" , which was released back in October, here comes another superb remix by the one and only Todd Terje. This time a disco dub re-edit of Roxy Music's classic "Love Is The Drug". It's taken from a new deluxe 12", due on January 30th on The Vinyl Factory. It also contains a balearic remix of Roxy Music's "Avalon" by Lindstrom & Prins Thomas. Pre-order [...]

Now dominating every DJ mix in discoland thanks to his new track Inspector Norse, Todd Terj is definitely riding high again... Another little Terje shaped bonus on the horizon is his remix for Bryan Ferry's Roxy Music - Love Is The Drug... (That wedding he just had with a young new bride has gotta pay for itself somehow) On the flipside is equally nordic and talented Lindstrom & Prins Thomas... get your hands on it from the 30th Jan.
