This news story made me sad, sad, sad today. I love feisty, spunky, punky Pink and her love affair with Carey Hart has always been interesting to me for some reason. I love that they're both eccentric, driven individuals and I love that she proposed to him and now I hate to hear that they're parting ways. Good love gone wrong always makes my heart hurt. Maybe love will prevail and they'll

Well, it turns out that there wasn't an episode the week I was gone so there was no catch-up to play. I got up Sunday morning and caught the 11am airing of the new episode live and I'm thinking that was an error. Either being 100% sober made this a pretty dull episode or it just was. Dull when compared to the ROL standards already set that is. Outside of Kristy Joe crying and crying and crying and crying and all-in-all doing a damned near spot-on impression of last years Sam all the way down to the mistrust issues despite [...]
Roy Orbison - "Leah" A bricklayer shows up for work on time to find his supplies, finally, arrived. The skid of dark bricks sit in a neat pile like a present, or a meal. Probably dropped off by some young forklift driver just before dawn. He works hard into the morning, the sun like an annoying but warm friend, the dew making the work wet and bright. He sits on a stool stuck in the mud, his back no longer able to handle the crouching. The work is slower, but so it goes. [...]

If scientists are correct about bugs outlasting man , there may be a new form of immortality set aside for the late Roy Orbison - a fame and vitality beyond his music... I learned today that a newly discovered beetle has been named the crooner and former Wilbury. Yes, a bug... really! A new species of beetle that appears as if wearing a tuxedo has been named in honor of the late rock 'n' roll legend Roy Orbison and his widow Barbara. Entomologist Quentin Wheeler of Arizona State University announced the discovery [...]

Pretty Paper is a good Christmas break-up song. Written by Willie Nelson during his songwriter days, it was recorded by Roy Orbison in 1963. Willie later recorded his own version. I prefer Willie's version, which really makes you feel for the poor lonely guy on the sidewalk. Roy maybe gets too caught up in the pretty ribbons and bows (probably due to his dramatic background singers). Anyway, both are worth a spin this Christmas, especially if you've just been dumped and feel mocked by all the pretty things about. Roy [...]

our fourth mix of the season is admittedly a little weak...probably wouldn't throw this one on at a christmas party, but it's still a good listen for decorating the tree & wrapping presents & baking cookies & shit...a few standouts include songs from feist, william bell, rufus thomas & a young luther vandross...the luther track, in fact, is a straight up jam, & probably would have fit a little better on a more upbeat mix, but whatever...check it out. download: the leather canary xmas mix #4 [...]

Roy Orbison - " Crying " (1961) Look at that man. He made some of the greatest, most passionate rock and roll records ever . Notice the abnormally long neck. That's what allowed him the range to climb from 1:25 of this song to 1:50. Wow. Buy Roy Orbison here Posted by Jordy
"A candy colored clown they call the sandman, Tiptoes to my room every night" - Roy Orbison David Lynch: auteur/soundtrack enthusiast/hypnosis pundit. Here we have a filmmaker who absolutely transforms the songs he incorporates in his films into his own — Aural puddy in his hands. Can anyone really hear Bobby Vinton's "Blue Velvet," without feeling the [...]
First off I want to say that this has been in the works (well in my head) for almost six months, but i've never had the time to just sit down and think about what I wanted to include. I make no secret about my love for film here on the site, as it's almost equal to my love of music. The connection I find between films and music is simple. It's that one scene and that one song that if they're both put to use correctly, than it can set that mood perfectly without there even being any kind [...]

If you have the patience to watch and enjoy as a rich noir- influenced story unfolds with diverse characters, three loosely interrelated plots, and an absolutely top-notch soundtrack, then Jim Jarmusch's Mystery Train is one you should definitely dig up at the rental place. I never saw this when it came out in 1989 because although I have always liked this kind of music, I was preoccupied with NKOTB at the time and probably wouldn't have been allowed to see it anyways because there are boobies. [...]

Maybe it's the huge blizzard that has ( this time seriously) immobilized my city, but I am feeling all holly and jolly. I think that my favorite Christmas album that I am playing the most 'round the house this yuletide season is Chris Isaak 's 2004 Christmas CD. In addition to rockin' retro covers of several old standards, there are five originals and duets with Stevie Nicks as well. It's got such a nice cozy feel to it, with a hint of the surf/jangle/crooner [...]
Roy Orbison , like many pioneering rock & roll artists of his generation, has the dubious honor of countless greatest hits collections bearing his name -- all of them of varying quality. I know this because I have owned several over the years. One of the more interesting of Orbison's 'best of' collections is the 1987 greatest hits package In Dreams . What makes this set interesting is also what makes it so controversial among Orbison traditionalists. In Dreams is indeed a collection of Orbison's [...]

I've been accused of having a bias towards 80s movies when I do these Soundtrack Saturday posts, and that might be true. Most of these movies are ones I grew up on and, in most cases, that I never could find soundtracks for. That doesn't mean 80s movies are the only ones I'll ever post about, they're just the ones I'm into right now. That being said, today's movie is an 80s movie. Hiding Out stars Jon Cryer [...]
My grandparents met in 1925 on the first day of school. My grandma was a junior, my grandfather a sophomore. It’s one of those storybook romances that you hear about; boy meets girls, wants girl, gets girl, loses girl, and finally makes it up to her. But in talking to my grandmother and recalling the endless amount of times I have listened to her throbbing heart of a story, she never ceases to
Roy Orbison - "Crying" Andrew, I heard what you said when I walked away today. Do you think I'm deaf? I bet you think you're pretty funny in front of your friends, but you're different when we're alone. Or at least you were different. But maybe you're just an asshole, I don't know. I still know your combination, and my brother never liked you in the first place. I'd watch your back if I was you, and don't try to apologise on my myspace again. That's really wussy. I used to think you were sensitive, but now I just think [...]

I have a themed posting to offer tonight: songs sung in unexpected languages by famous artists. I'll bet there's a whole blog dedicated to this somewhere. The first track should come as no suprise; ABBA are Swedish and the Scandanavians are always good with the foreign languages (they kinda need to be.) In fact, ABBA recorded songs in Spanish, German, French, Swedish and English during their career and have an entire version of their greatest hits album in Spanish! Fellow Swedes Roxette do too . ABBA - Waterloo (German Version) [...]

Today's Theme Mix Friday post comes to you from my friend, Sarah , aka Beebles (that's her in the picture with her ADORABLE dog, Ruby ). I guess her mix doesn't really have a theme, other than it being full of songs that she loves and that she strongly urges you to download. Sarah and I both hope they make your Friday a little brighter. Dion & The Belmonts - Ruby Baby Roy Orbison - In Dreams Tom Waits - God's Away [...]
