Yes, it's May, but it's still Football season in Chicago. With a name that will pull up endless google results and a lineup that features a slew of members of well-known Chicago outfits including The Ponys, Baseball Furies and more, it's apparent Football gives no fucks. The same cant be said when referring to their music as well seeing how they play abrasive, mosh-worthy garage rock with a hardcore punk-like intensity. Football also seems to have a thing for professional wrestling as proved with their latest video (and which makes almost [...]
Aussie band Royal Headache plays the Burlington in Logan Square Thursday night. It's a lively band worth checking out.

Albums of the Month - May 2012 Without much question, May has been the standout month of 2012 in terms of new music. There have been quite a few masterful releases during the span, including the highly-anticipated Beach House and Sigur Ros albums. But just like last month, the most-expected releases didn't make my final three. Here are my three favorite albums from last month. 3.) Royal Headache (Self-Titled) [...]

After taking a night to relax and sweat at Stubb's , it was back into the Chaos . Primary venue choice was Club DeVille , but I did pop next door to see the goings-ons. Club DeVille scored a great lineup for the indie kids with Sea Lions , Royal Headaches and The Clean . I saw more Japanese hardcore at The Mohawk courtesy Zyanose , full mosh pit included. Ironically, I took an elbow to the face while shooting Royal Headache . [...]
Trust me, the name is misleading. What's Your Rupture, 2012 7.8 / 10.0 Royal Headache’s self-titled album, released last year but is just now getting a stateside release, is a weird little beast—though it is a rock album, its scant length (26 minutes, with the longest [...]

Royal Headache Royal Headache What's Your Rupture Seven words you will never hear on television: "And your next American Idol is Shogun." And it's not because the lead singer of the Australian garage-rock band, Royal Headache, couldn't win a tv singing competition. On the contrary, the man who goes by Shogun has the pipes to rival some of the greatest male vocalists of all time, and if I was a producer looking for a ringer, he'd be on my speed dial. Dude's got the scruff and scratch of a young Rod [...]

by BBG Citizens Arrest at Europa in 2011 ( more by Sarah Coulter ) Screaming Females dropping off of the previously discussed Warsaw show on June 14th due to Marisa's sickness was a bit of a blow. Thankfully, the guys in Citizens Arrest have swooped in to take their place! Tickets for Ceremony , Citizens Arrest , Royal Headache [...]

No one would doubt that Royal Headache is a punk album, but it’s really only punk in production only (PIPO). Lo-fi recording techniques (it apparently took them a day and a half to record, and it shows), distorted chords and the ability to jam 12 tracks into 26 minutes are certainly trademarks of a punk release. However, closer listens betray the hard punk exterior, showing a bunch of sensitive dudes who would make fine prom dates. Honestly, the only thing this record is missing is a Del Shannon organ break . I imagine a broken [...]

Royal Headache’s video for the song "Girls" feels like it teleported straight from some off-kilter version of the ’70s where people rode normal-sized skateboards around instead of glacial longboards. The video features pretty, young people ... read more
