Just got home from the LONGEST day of Xmas shopping. Why I always put that off until December 23 is beyond me. I guess I can only blame myself. But at least I checked the email and got a new track from Royce. This is the final mastered version of "Part Of Me," and will appear on Street Hop , dropping April 9. The album is executive produced by DJ Premier. Oh boy... Royce Da 5'9": "Part of Me"
Production chores handled by DJ Premier.
I don't know how or when he did it but Royce Da 5'9" has climbed into my top emcee list. He even puts himself as close as possible to the legendary Casual as my favorite "guest emcee."(i.e. the emcee who always outshines the artist who he is appearing with as a featured guest) Royce drops fire on producer Copperpot's album. Go back and listen to him kill it with slim shady back in the day. He also sucks up all the oxygen on the EV records compilation. His [...]

Royce DA 52 93 released a new song & video recently. Well the song entitled "I Gotta" was actually was on The Revival Mixtape released this summer. "Shake This" is the same song with a different title. Royce is gearing up for release of his new album Street Hop to be released on April 21st next year. The album is to be executive produced by DJ Premier so already you know it gonna be hella dope. Now that things are back to normal I'll keep dropping the lainks. Enjoy... Royce da 5293 - Shake This Royce da 5293 - Shake This Music Video
I'd have more to write about this, but I'm pretty drunk right now. I'm sure Royce would approve, as I know he loves drinking as well (judging by his raps on The Bar Exam 2 .) Whatever. I'll get back to this shit tomorrow. Oh yeah, this is produced by DJ Premier, and will be on Royce's upcoming LP in April, entitled Street Hop . Download link after the video. Enjoy. No one can say I didn't try to at least understand what Kanye was doing (or trying to at least) on 808s and Heartbreak . Even after being non-plussed after a couple listens, I still tried to give Ye the benefit of the doubt. I'll admit listening to the production on CD is a pretty dynamic workout for my modest desk speaker system, but that still doesn't make "RoboCop" any less flaming. I want to drink the neon Kool-Aid and believe anything not in auto-tune blows, but in truth this new act is [...]

This was a pleasant surprise. The DetroitBoyz generously unleashed this gem of a track, on which three Detroit monsters go in on Raekwon's "Verbal Intercourse" instrumental from Only Built 4 Cuban Linx . The D is pumping out great music right now. It's great to see everyone in that scene unite behind a common cause. Royce Da 5'9": "Verbal Intercourse (Detroit Remix) ft. Guilty Simpson & Elzhi"

Somehow, this instant 529 classic slipped under the tortuous tentacles of the Internet. Off Bar Exam 2 and originally titled "Jockin' My Fresh;" re-released under the cobbled-together comp called The Album under the name "Bad Guy." Either way, Royce incinerates the Green Lantern beat for maybe his finest work since "Boom" (really). Between this and "Esco (Let's Go)," it's also probably time to acknowledge that Lantern has quietly become one of hip-hop's best producers. You'd think he could give Marshall a tip or two. It would be fairly convenient to undermine the sheer genius it takes to be a professional cynic, but the qualifying attribute is generally embedded into the individual's persona like it was a strand in their DNA. When it comes to Joe Budden, the pathological gloom displayed in his music seemingly comes off as a natural process opposed to those who "fake the funk." As a master of the melancholy, Budden's been able to maintain a thriving fanbase even between record label drama as he's been able to relate to listeners through vehement emotion while remaining emotionless all the same. His [...]

The new album from Royce DA 52 93 simply entitled The Album comes out, like Q Tip's album Renaissance , today... November 4th . If you heard his mixtape released back in September called Bar Exam 2 then you know what to expect from Royce. Hardcore Hip Hop from a great MC. Despite what it says on the album cover that " mixed by Green Lantern " is a total fabrication. There is no mixing on this album. Unless [...]

The folks at Hip Hop DX released a new Royce Da 52 93 mixtape hosted by (and somewhat "mixed") by DJ Green Lantern a month ago. I'm sure many probably have heard it before but for those who didn't here it is. Royce, for those not in the know, is a great lyricist, a true MC who can spit rhymes with the best of them past or present. This mixtape features 22 tracks. Most are on point, lyrically and beatwise. However it does include some hipster type rap tracks like [...]

Judging by the names involved, this could be some serious shit. Slaughterhouse - Onslaught PigeonsandPlanes

Apparently, these cats are going by the name Slaughterhouse. Whatever name they choose to call themselves, I say just keep dropping tracks. Link after the break. Over the last decade or so Detroit carved out a nice identity for itself among Hip-Hop cities. It'll never have the history of New York or the aura of Los Angeles, but it's cultivated a culture that breeds emcees and producers with a distinct sound; a mixture of Motown and steely grit that's been the city's lifeblood for many years. Enter producer/emcee Black Milk looking to expand upon his last album, Popular Demand , and follow the footsteps of the likes of J Dilla, Royce Da 5'9", eLZhi and Guilty Simpson by building his presence on the [...]
