In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux and RTX (now Black Bananas ) fame teased some new details about the long-delayed Avalanches release. Not only did Herrema team up with the Australian band to write lyrics for a new song titled "The Stepkids", but Herrema also told Pitchfork, "They said the album is definitely going to come out this year. And I heard [...]

The late standup legend Mitch Hedberg once explained how bananas were the opposite of traffic lights: "With a traffic light, green means go, yellow means slow down, and red means stop.

Death Alison Mosshart may still be running around with Jennifer Herrema's DNA, but when RTX rolls onto the stage you know who has been living the real deal forever. Unfortunately, the years of abuse have taken their toll and the fog that has settled over Jennifer's gorgeous face and laserthinkingmusicalgenius pretty much makes impossible any real connection between band and audience. Their sets are wildly disappointing in general, not quite rock enough or soul enough, but you cannot take your eyes away from the stage because you know there are ACTUAL WILD ANIMALS there. And they [...]

Illustration by Luke McGarry Looking back, you might say that brothers Bobby, Dannis and David Hackney started as a 'proto-punk' band, but really this is pure punk rock made years before anyone else even touched the genre. Within the context of the time and place—east side Detroit in the early 1970s—Death seem absolutely sagelike in their prescience. A documentary and a book are in the works, and tons more reissues to follow their rediscovered, barely released ... For All The World to See on Drag City. Bobby and Dannis speak now from a snowed-in [...]

Oh! My! God! Gillespie [...]

Paris put me way behind on writing. And since most of these records came via digital copies from the publicists, and since my computer crapped out on me (thanks Mac!) after I downloaded them, I haven't really spent a lot of time with any of these releases yet….but here's some information. Take it for what it's worth (very little). Parts & Labor and The Sea and Cake are my picks for the week. New Music Releases 10/21/08: Records I've Heard: AC/DC : [...]

Here's the problem with reviewing a record like RTX 's JJ Got Live RaTX ....what song should I choose to post? This record is utterly, utterly brilliant--not a surprise, because Jennifer Herrema and her heavy metal bandmates (and yes, this is HEAVY METAL) have amazingly made records that are double the brilliance of the album that proceded them. They were tight last time around, but with this record, they are full-on unfuckwithable. Their sound is surprisingly basic in nature: hard, fast, blues-tinged Rock and fuckin' Roll! The band that made Western [...]

Home Sweet Home Based out of Sunset Beach, CA, RTX have been making the musical landscape of OC and SOCAL alot kooler since settling here in 2004. Of course this "Career of Evil" started way back when and Jennifer Herrema has seen her share of accolades and accomplishments. Nevertheless, we here at Inflight at Night are proud to announce that RTX will be spreading the stoke across the pond this holiday season as part of the NME Rock and Riot Tour as main support for Primal Scream . If you are [...]

dan monick Download: RTX "Cheap Wine Time" (from JJ Got Live RATX on Drag City) Tons of fun with RTX's Jennifer and Kurt over at L.A. RECORD . I back this band hard ( I even wrote their bio ) and the new album is great. Hanoi Rocks plus Enigma-era Roky to me, though L.A. RECORD [...]
