If the appearance of a comedy hip-hop act in America's capital of culture does one thing, it brings out hordes of Irish expats. Half of tonight's crowd is made up of the Irish and the Irish-ish of the Big Apple, supping Guinness and putting their dubious Limerick slang into overdrive. The other half, natives of the Lower East Side and beyond, seem largely drawn in by 'Horse Outside' going viral beyond our shores. They make up the bewildered back end of the room, and start giving each other confused glances the moment the announcement - "after a four day [...]

How about this? The Rubberbandits ' Blindboy Boat Club hooks up with Lecs Luther for a Lex's alter-ego Alfie Chapstick freestyle rap called 'Sally Skag': Lecs features in State's Faces of 2012 while the Rubberbandits actually made five fake songs for me last month.
A fair while in the making, Serious About Men neatly ties together nine years' worth of pranking, hip-hop and social commentary from the manic bag-wearing anti-heroes that are The Rubberbandits . Their comic caricatures have become a controversial yet well-loved reflection of many aspects of Irish society over their last few successful years, showing a grotty but relatable reflection. Happily, in interview the pair – Blindboy Boatclub and Mr Chrome – have no trouble delivering every bit of that charisma, whether they're talking about their politics or their fixation with the duality of [...]

We had about 100 or so votes that made up the results in songs , new artists, EPs and now, the big one - albums. Our ultimate winner has topped the poll before that doesn't negate the indisputable fact that there's plenty of superb Irish music contained within this list... 25. The Ambience Affair - Burials 24. LaFaro - Easy Meat [...]

As a consistent producer of intelligent hard-hitting hip hop with a penchant to speak his mind on any number of controversial or political issues, it comes with little surprise that Captain Moonlight has decided to air his views on the Occupy movement. The brand new track 'Occupational Therapy', comes as we eagerly await the release of his fourth album, Offenses [...]
As Darryl Keating pointed out in his album review , the Rubberbandits have covered all the bases with their new album Serious About Men - from comedy to prank calls and some pretty good tunes along the way. Now State readers can find out for themselves by winning one of five copies of the double album. To enter, just tell us the name of the duo's DJ and send it, plus your full details, to giveaway@state.ie by 5pm on Wednesday 14th December.
When copied CDs of the Rubberbandits ' prank calls were being passed around secondary schools at the start of the millennium, few would have guessed that the lads would make it this far. Safe in the haunty clutches of Limerick city their popularity grew rapidly on the cusp of cult hits like 'Bags of Glue' but people remained weary of duo's potential outside of the county, questioning whether or not their homespun knacker-antics would translate to the rest of the Ireland. Even after they became a national sensation there was still some doubt in regards to their exportability. Now [...]

Bag-wearing Irish men of mystery, the Rubberbandits , release a new video for what just might be the love song of the year in "I Wanna Fight Your Father". These dudes, which can be justified as The Lonely Island of Western Europe are friggin' hilarious, and definitely worth the look / listen. For another piece of comedic genius, check out last year's "Horse Outside". RUBBERBANDITS | FACEBOOK

By now it should be apparent that Limerick's Rubberbandits are more than just a novelty act and weren't just one hit wonders with 'Horse Outside'. You only have to YouTube the prank phone calls they specialised in early in their careers, and it becomes obvious that they are arch situationists, who owe as much to Guy Debord via Malcolm McLaren as they do to Erik B & Rakim via Outkast (or to Podge and Rodge, for that matter). Their social satire is genuinely, sometimes brutally, subversive, brilliantly calculated to get up the noses of middle Ireland. Anybody who [...]
There are no words. Apart from to say that's the best guitar solo I've seen in a music video since Cian Nugent shredded in Patrick Kelleher's 'Miracle Candle' vidyo.

Adebisi Shank, Cosby Stage In terms of live acts in Ireland, Adebisi Shank are hard to beat. They could have definitely benefitted from a later time slot – the 3PM mark was perhaps a bit too early for some revellers who were suffering from the night before, given the amount of noise this trio are capable of making. But nevertheless they give it their absolute all and rock the Cosby Stage to its core. Energetic, frantic, raucous – it's everything we've come to expect from an Adebisi Shank gig. It's difficult to pinpoint highlights, as from the moment [...]

The Rubberbandits, Main Stage What's a Sunday morning without a good strong dose o' mass? As the campers crawl out from under their hangovers to face day three of the gauntlet and mingle with the very fresh-looking day trippers arriving in their droves off the buses, The Rubberbandits are in their element on the Main Stage providing revellers with their own unique brand of religious experience. Backed by a team of gyrating altar-boys and a supporting cast including Judas Iscariot and God himself, Blindboy Boat Club & Mr. Chrome put on an extremely well worked out show which [...]
