Space jumpsuit-clad dancers and spontaneous brass band appearances made the Fillmore's Cosmic Love Ball an unconventional celebratory experience.

Craig Myers , percussionist and kamel n'goni player, has had an extremely full plate the last several years. However, touring and performing as a member of both Mike Gordon's band and Rubblebucket left less time to devote to his own two bands, Barika and N'goni Trio. 2013 brings a bit of a change as Myers left Rubblebucket in September to focus on Barika. The band fuses West African influences with a poly-rhythmic, funk laden sound that has doses of psychedelia and R&B with complex rhythms and infectious grooves. [...]

Matt Butler will pull musicians from Rubblebucket, Tea Leaf Green and moe. to make up the ensemble for the Everyone Orchestra's return to the Northeast in April. (April 18th at South Shore Music Hall), Philadelphia (April 19th at The Blockley) and New York City (April 20th at The Cutting Room). Marco Benevento was already scheduled to play The Blockey [...]

As its title suggests, Mountain Jam is a music festival held on a mountain. This year's edition, set for June 6th-9th at Hunter Mountain, NY, boasts a lineup of Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh, Primus, The Avett Brothers, Dispatch, Gary Clark Jr., Deer Tick, Gov't Mule, and Rubblebucket, among others. Tickets go on sale Saturday, January 19th. Additional acts will be revealed soon.

I was on the fence about this year's Snowball Music Festival. The lineup was spotty, with the heavy hitters being strong, but not strong enough to warrant a trip up to Winter Park. Today's last lineup announcement knocked it out of the park. Flying Lotus, Delta Spirit, Krewella, Japandroids, Polica and Tennis to name a few have been announced. I guess it's time to start looking for accommodations. The last two years have SOLD OUT, so my recommendation would probably to get your tickets ASAP. It's late in the year for lineup changes, but that hasn't stopped two musicians from leaving the bands for which they're best known. Percussionist Craig Myers has left Rubblebucket , while multi-instrumentalist John Neff has unexpectedly quit the Drive-By Truckers . [Photo by Jeremy Gordon ] Myers has left the employ of HT faves Rubblebucket to focus on his own band - Barika, according to a report by Brent Hallenbeck of the Burlington Free-Press. After more than five years in Rubblebucket, when [...]
Ski bums around the country and locals, you might want to clear your calendars for the weekend of March 8 - 10. The Snowball Music Festival has set up in Winter Park no thanks to those pesky townies of Vail. I'm holding my breath for the next two waves of scheduled guests, but the first wave is pretty stellar. Scoop up your tickets here and get more info here. Kendrick Lamar (Feat. Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, & Jay Rock) - Swimming Pools (Black Hippy Remix) [mp3] [...]
The third annual SnowBall Music Festival will take place in the "majestic mountain paradise" of Winter Park, Colorado on March 8 - 10. Today we got our first look at the lineup as the initial artist announcement has been released. HT faves Pretty Lights, Portugal. The Man, Rubblebucket and Big Gigantic are all aboard as well as Zion I, Kendrick Lamar, Datsik, Flosstradamus, Porter Robinson and Crizzly w/ Lil Flip. The event combines a music festival with a skiing/snowboarding event. All in all, SnowBall '13 will [...]

Dangerous Ponies have been hiding out in the studio for the past few months working on new material for their upcoming third release only really emerging for big shows. (BTW: Expect to hear the group veering off in a different direction with the next album. I hear that some of the songs that they are currently fleshing out are leaning towards the psychedelic and surf rock genres, but I'm sure that they'll still contain the band's usual good time vibes.) Well, tonight Dangerous Ponies will be opening for the "Rubbletar Tour" at The Blockley so you know the showcase [...]

On the off-chance that you weren't paying attention throughout any part of 2012, then know that I have you covered. Below you'll find the third part of my Top 50 Songs Of 2012 . In case you're curious, I chose the songs from the 400+ tracks that I shared around here throughout the last 11 months. Enjoy. 30) : Lace Curtains - Bedroom Honesty : For a song that sounds so wonderfully casual and inviting, it's brutally upfront about quite a few things . I love it. From The Garden Of Joy And [...]

Another month, another round of MP32s culled from my inbox and various other means of submission. Once again...some you may know, some you may have never heard of, some may be great and some may be awful. Some I just don't have time to write about, and others I just plain wouldn't. Shorthanded Goals is the ultimate in music blogging democracy; you get to choose what you want without any clever (or goofy) comments from me. If anything these tickle your fancy, or your have more goodies to send, feel free to let me know . [...]

Rubblebucket at Williamsburg Music Hall – November 18 Words : Chadbyrne R. Dickens Photos : Tamara Lee “We are serious, never mysterious, we're just the cold-up, loomed-up image of ourselves” exclaims Kalmia Traver within the stanza of Silly Fathers. Many in attendance at Rubblebucket’s sold-out show in Brooklyn earlier this month could recognize these patented quirky and contagious party bounce-athon anthems. The show marked the band’s umpteenth show in 2012 including stops at numerous festivals including Bonnaroo, Catskill Chill and All Good. The band provides a sound [...]

Whilst chatting with Kal Traver of Rubblebucket over the phone, she told me about a time when the band got their phones stolen while out on Miami Beach at night. Besides that, she said, they love Miami and cherish their time there. Hey, lucky us! If there’s one thing I’ve learned about being an avid [...]
