It took long enough, but someone has finally taken advantage of the buzz surrounding Sonic Youth's performance of Daydream Nation at select venues this summer. Ruby Isle (Mark Mallman & Dan Geller) have taken the Daydream classic, and wrapped in elctro goodness. It retains everything that made it great, but adds a nice 21st century touch, blending surprisingly well with the nostalgia that the track holds for so many of us. Enjoy the track, and take a listen to the original while you're at it. Ruby Isle [...]
ATOM BOMB [...]

Two cover versions today with in common the word teenage. Following on from yesterday's TPE post a version that maybe you don't know of the Undertones main claim for fame 'Teenage Kicks' , which is one of they great songs that I find you never get tired of, even at the tender age of 46 those opening chords still send a shiver down my backbone as Johhny Kidd would have said. The song is interpeted by French artist Dominiqe A with a little bit of help from Francoiz Berut, and in a dreamy way it's not bad with an [...]
Some band named Ruby Isle has covered Sonic Youth's "Teenage Riot." - The Song - Another track from the band's EP, "In To The Black." [...]
Via Large Hearted Boy , I noticed that the Shins front man James Mercer made a great observation about the music industry that a lot of young bands seem to not get: you don't have to be a superstar to be a star or more importantly make a living playing music. Mercer is quoted saying: "You can have a real niche audience these days. A small percentage of the population is buying your records, but you can make a living off that. We sold out Madison Square Garden theater and the caterers don't know who the hell we are!" [...]
We have nothing to back this but an off-hand tease in an IGN.com article, but Jack White may be in talks to play The King in a feature-length parody of recent biopics like Walk The Line and Ray, entitled Walk...

Rodolfo has been a busy man the past few months, so his recommendations have been few and far between. But the other day he "returned" and sent a message recommending Irish indie/alternative quartet Angel Pier . At first when I looked at the list of the band's influences I somehow got the feeling that we've been there several times before, as the band lists Radiohead , Joy Division , The Stone Roses , The Cure etc. just like (almost) every other new band does these days. But [...]
I'll admit I'm a sucker for a good cover version and Ruby Isle's cover of Sonic Youth's "Teenage Riot" would certainly be one of those! If you're going to cover such an incredibly magnificent, stupefying track as "Teenage Riot" than you can really do one of two things : (1) straight up cover version which [...]

I think this should interest a few thousand of you out there. Sonic Youth will be performing their iconic 1988 album Daydream Nation in its entirety for one night only at the Greek Theatre in LA on July 20th. Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and Spin have all called this album one of the best of the 1980's (with Pitchfork calling it THE best). Tickets go on sale this Saturday but you can win a pair right here . Just email us with why you would like to go and [...]
Ruby Isle is the electro-rock vehicle of piano rock veteran Mark Mallman, prog rock afficiando Aaron Lemay, and Kindercore Records founder Dan Gellar. The group is the bi-product of a high school friendship fueled by mixtapes and cigarettes in the glamorous city of Waukesha, WI between Mallman and Gellar. After embarking on decidedly successful solo careers for some time, the two have joined forces again to create the electro-pop phenomenom you hear today. Add the driving steady rhythms of Lemay and we may well have achieved the electro pop holy trinity. [...]

M aybe it's because I've been going through old records since I broke my turntable out of its banishment to the storage shed about three weeks ago. Maybe it's my not so latent dance music sensibilities. Maybe it's something yet to be discovered, but I'm really digging these tracks from Ruby Isle . They bill themselves as the "party band of the apocalypse." That pretty much tells it all. Formed by two high school friends Mark Mallman, Dan Gellar ( I Am The World Trade Center [...]
Cassadaga , the new full-length from Bright Eyes , will be released on April 10. Pre-orders are now being taken in the Saddle Creek online store. A bit of an odds-n-sods starter for the week... First, my beloved THE INDELICATES have finally put a new song up on their website. When I first wrote about them just about a year ago exactly, it went something like this: "The Indelicates hail from Brighton and have only been in existence since September 2005. They are led by Simon and Julia [...]
Ruby Isle is an electronic rock band coming from both Athens and Minneapolis. Into the Black is being released on March 13th on Kinderscope. The band is made up of three members, they are Mark Mallman, Dan Geller and Aaron Lemay. These three artists did a great job on this album of mixing a blatant electronic style with their indie pop sound. While reading a short bio on them, I found the following quite humourous. Mark Mallman and Dan Geller met each other in a high school sex education class in the small town of Waukesha, WI. Geller [...]
Ruby Isle -- Atom Bomb The Machine of Death is an upcoming collection of fiction about a rather terse machine predicting how people will die. Ruby Isle have got their entry in early. As the Machine of Death site says: The realization that we could now know how we were going to die had changed the world: people became at once less fearful and more afraid. There's no reason not to go skydiving if you know your sliver of paper says "BURIED ALIVE". The realization that these predictions seemed to revel [...]
I think the band I have today may possibly contain the weirdest combination of artists ever. The group is called Ruby Isle and it is made up of world renown piano rocker Mark Mallman, I Am The World Trade Center's Dan Geller and a punk/prog rock drummer by the name of Aaron Lemay. Now I am still not sure what I was expecting to hear after I read the different components of this band but I don't think that synthed-out 80s dance pop was even a choice that was floating around in my head. Perhaps I was [...]
