What happens when you take one of the worst corporations in America (Budweiser), and team them up with Jay-Z for a festival in Philadelphia? Well, the Made In America festival, unfortunately. There are some good acts on the list, like DJ Shadow , Run DMC, Dirty Projectors , D'Angelo , and more. But you are going to have to sit through buzzing shit storms like Calvin Harris nd Skrillex, as well as fork up a pretty penny to see them throw it down. Okay, maybe it won't be that bad, but [...]

Sorry for the major delay on getting this information out to you guys as I'm sure you've seen this information elsewhere by now. For those of you that haven't already heard, the Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup was leaked last night via Bingo tournament . As you can see via the poster to my left, the lineup once again blows most festivals completely out of the water. Somehow the festival goers manage to get great reunion bands like Run DMC , The Promise Ring , Braid , Refused , etc. along with up and comers [...]
Oh my lord...this lineup is nuts.

Back in 2002, Rockstar games pushed the envelope of open world video games with its release of the best-selling Grand Theft Auto: Vice City . This lead to numerous college students spending hours playing their Playstation 2s, and subsequently being reintroduced to the 80s culture from their early youth. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is an open world platform game following the exploits of ex-convict Tommy Vercitti - newly released from prison, living in the crime-booming city of Vice City (looked a lot like Miami to me) circa 1986. For anyone who was a fan of [...]

Mario Caldato, Jr chillin', one might say like Bob Dylan . In my previous entry, Riddle Me This, My Brother: Deconstructing "Shadrach," I revisited Paul’s Boutique , and for the millionth time marveled at the Beastie Boys and Dust Brothers , who then included Matt Dike . However, Paul’s was a seven-man operation and like a dumbass, I overlooked producer, engineer, mixer, soundman, multi-instrumentalist, electronics whiz, security guard impersonator, and all-around [...]

Leave it to a Dutch film crew working on a shoestring budget to capture New York hip-hop in its heyday. With little planning and even less time to shoot, Bram van Splunteren spent six days running around the five boroughs collecting footage for what would be one of hip-hop's greatest (and rarest) documentary films: Big Fun in the Big Town . With a little help from Bill Adler, the director was able to get in touch with people like Russell Simmons, LL Cool J, Schooly D, RUN-DMC, Doug E. Fresh , [...]

When I posted excerpts from the I'm Gonna Git You Sucka soundtrack a few weeks ago (which can be found here) there were a few comments about the singles from the album, and the remixes they contained. I didn't even know such singles existed! So I thank those who mentioned them. The Discogs merchants from who I bought them from probably thank you as well. And now all the readers should thank you too, because here are some remixes from the said singles. Boogie Down Productions Jack Of Spades (Extended Remix) [...]

We wrote a couple of days back about the new posthumous Joey Ramone album, and while we're not entirely convinced by the record and the philosophy that underlies it, it is nice to see the Ramones continuing to get some recognition, albeit far more belatedly than they should have done. The most famous way in which the band's legacy has been commemorated has been the decision to rename part of 2nd Street in Manhattan "Joey Ramone Way," a street sign that immediately made its way to the top of hoarders' lists. It's certainly not the only street around [...]
No shoe strings in em. I did not win em.
It's graduation week, and we guess that means at least some of you are preparing to leave college behind for good. If you'll allow us to get a little misty-eyed for a minute, we remember when we were in the same position, and it's both exhilarating and frightening — suddenly the future is a big empty space, just waiting to be filled in. Happily, as ever, there's at least some solace to be found in music, and there've been plenty of great songs written over the years about life and how to live it. So here's a playlist of some [...]

I'd like to say tomorrow that today the subject was roses, but once again, it's death. Today's sub-topic: Does it really come in threes? I'm not talking about famous people dying in groups of three. I've never seen any consistent, compelling evidence to support this theory/urban myth. I'm talking about threesomes. What is it about them? If one is the loneliest number and two's company, is three totally unlucky? Consider musical trios, like Beastie Boys. Too often, it seems, one member gets taken from us way to soon. The latest example of the law [...]
