It seems like I haven't done a themed post in months, but I've got a little free time today, so let's break the drought. I'm not going to spend too much time working on it, (see what I did there?), but here are are a few songs about work, or lack thereof, for your Labor Day. I don't have much affection for Rush, ( Tom Sawyer makes me want to hit someone) , but Working Man rocks. The Ramones and Mekons provide a little punk, everyone loves some Bob Marley, and I included the Dan [...]

Video games and music is a big deal these days. Pay attention. The Rush Moving Pictures full album DLC pack scheduled for release last week was delayed by Harmoni x. It was replaced by a Locksley 3pack with with She Does , Don't Make Me Wait and All Over Again . I know what you're thinking; "Locksley? Sweet." There's a movement on the message board to get some more punk tracks . Can [...]

Teenagers everywhere are going ga-ga over the news of their favorite band, Rush , joining forces with their favorite game . RUSH's biggest selling album Moving Pictures will be available in the Rockband downloadable content catalogue starting Tuesday August 26th, 2008. Predicted is an increase interest in geometry homework when the kids find out that one song is 11 minutes long. Photo by Peter_Hutchins .

This is a little dated but the great progressive rock band Rush recently did their first TV performance in more that 2o years on the Colbert Report . I can't embed the episode but here the link . They played "Tom Sawyer" predictably and during the song it was clear that Colbert really doesn't know what to do when he has musical guests on the show...he awkwardly interrupts the first TV performance by Rush in 20 years...whoops. Rush -- Limelight Rush [...]
Last week prog-rock legends Rush made their first U.S. television appearance since before I was born when they performed Tom Sawyer on The Colbert Report. As per usual, the band nailed the popular tune with seemingly little effort. Before they hit the actual stage they hit the virtual stage of the popular video game Rock Band. Well, one classic at least. The Colbert Report has allowed us to watch as Canadian proggers Rush go through the motions of playing their own hit, "Tom Sawyer," on Rock Band . Guitarist Alex Lifeson insists (cutely) on fingering the frets instead of simply concentrating on the "strings" bar, while Geddy Lee seems most amused by the whole thing. The band fails, of course, giving countless YouTube-ready wannabes something like hope for outdoing their heroes at something semi-musical. [via Kotaku ]
She's back! I featured this girl playing Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son" in a previous post and she has now graced us with her rendition of "YYZ" by prog rock legends Rush . Bow in her presence, unworthy knaves! Bow! She's still playing for that unresponsive crowd! Fuck those people! Nice shirt though. Looking good sister.

In the 70s, your parents may have missed the boat on some things. They probably liked The Beatles and the Rolling Stones but then fell into disco and did tons of drugs and then OOPS! Kids! Now, I wasn't around in the 70s. I'm only in my mid-twenties. But being the curious MP3 blogger that I am, I enjoy finding out about a lot of eras of music, especially the decade that apparently inspired a bunch of potheads to turn into a bunch of cokeheads; the 70s. Kind of like the 90s into the new millennium. I had [...]
Stephen Colbert had a short interview with Rush while sitting in harness right before they went on to play a pretty killer Tom Sawyer. He asked some rpetty tough questions like "Do you ever get tired of kicking so much ass?" and had a pretty funny run out on stage before the song was over. Apparently this pissed a lot of hardcore rush fans off that he did this.
This is Rush's first appearance on American TV in 33 years, as Colbert mentions, so I figured this is worthy of a lazy weekend post. Look for Colbert's premature segue into the commercial break in the middle of Tom Sawyer . Does being unsure about whether it was scripted or accidental make me gullible?
Enlace: Rush to Rock 'The Colbert Report' [...]
I may not be as big of a Rush fan as Matt, but damn If I wasn't tickled to see Geddy, Alex, and Neil work America's favorite white male victim into a frenzy last night on The Colbert Report . It got us longing for a few older Rush music videos such as the classics below. Pay close attention to a young Aimee Mann in "Time Stand Still" and the entire flying-Lamborghini-Monopoly-bo ard-glowing-instrument vibe of "Big Money". You say Rush, we say AWESOME. "Tom Sawyer" live on [...]
Aside from this being the first time these dudes have been on US television in three decades, the best thing ever came out of Colbert's mouth during the interview, when he asked, "Have you ever written a song so epic that by the end of it, you are actually being influenced by yourself?" Also, Neil Peart in a yarmulke? Awesome times nine. Rush 's latest, Snakes & Arrows , is out now. (mp3) Rush - One Little Victory (live) Godspeed!

The dichotomy of a weekend. Went to see the Circle Jerks and Dillinger Four Saturday night. Two old (In the Circle Jerks case- really old) school punk bands. And then last nite, I was planning on seeing Phil Lesh and Friends. The D4 are midwestern (Minneapolis to be exact) punk rock motherfuckers. Fat, old and kick ass. Perfect. The between songs snappy patter was great (as their lead singer stated "I'm fat [...]

Boy, I'm really letting you see behind the curtain here. There'll be no question as to what my favorite albums are anymore, they're (mostly) all spelled out for you nice and easy right here. Keyword: favorite. I didn't set about trying to discern the "best" records from each year; rather, I've followed in Maura and Jeff's ( and others ) footsteps and created a list of my favorite albums from every year I've been alive , as per DYFL's instructions . I decided to go the route of picking the [...]

Young band LOGOS will be releasing its debut EP, Beautiful Disguise , tomorrow night at the Old Rock House . Victoria (playing one of its two last shows) will be opening. We'll have more on the EP in next week's paper, but until then, take a listen to the song "Mystic Haze" and after the jump, read a sneak-preview snippet of Christian Schaeffer's review. After listening to the five songs, Chris is right: LOGOS sounds like Pearl Jam ca. Ten crossed with Rush -- and that's [...]
