It's become clear that I'm not going to get very much more blogging done until I get back to Atlanta and have had some time to rest up, so consider it summer break around here at Ohmpark. To tide you over until then, here is collection of great records that the artists are giving away for free or by donation that you have absolutely no reason not add to your collection. Ok, this episode of "What The Hell" is gonna be large on tunes. There seems to be so many worthwhile albums dropping right now, it is hard to keep up. A great problem to have. Here are the many bands I'm crushing on right now like a little music slut: Russian Spy Camera (Athens, Ga) I know Ichuda already did a review of this album , but I've really gotten into this one hard, [...]
Russian Spy Camera are a band that my lady got me into. The first time she took me to see them I heard hints of The Fall in some of their songs. However, when we saw them in Athens (their hometown) at the Popfest last August gone were The Fall influences and in were... I'm not sure what. The songs seemed longer and more drawn out, definitely less concise, and some even felt a bit jammy to me. Generally speaking I tend to like a shorter and catchier song but this is a wild generalization. The band has just [...]
I can't remember how we originally stumbled upon today's featured artist over a year and a half ago, but it's a good thing we did [July 2006 review + Curanderismo.mp3]. I covered a good chunk of what's going on this week on my show this past weekend, but a few things have been added to the concert calendar and I thought I'd once again give you a rundown of my day-by-day recommendations. With a few tunes to sample, of course. In my opinion local bands are the hottest in town this week, and if you can only hit one or two of these shows, I would definitely check out the WRVU Benefit with Turncoats and Bad Friend at [...]
Atlanta music blog Cable & Tweed has a lot of good stuff posted at the moment. Before going away, Rich posted a mix of a dozen or so new bands, not one of which I'd heard of, which shamed me rather. Anyway, I have posted my four favourite tracks from the mix below, and if you pop over there and read the post properly , then there are at least half a dozen more gems in there. Highly recommended!
