Photo by @Hallwood on instagram [RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] The new Gui Boratto album has some gems on it, actually one thing I like about it the most is that I could use this album as sort of tool to get new fans into this sort of music. Maybe get a club kid to sit down and take a break from the rowdiness he's only been listening to and share this with him...lets be honest actually i'll probably never sit down with a club kid though. [...]
![[Listen/Download] Ruth Cassie- Not to the Day](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3254618_lg.jpg)
by teepoo Ruth Cassie is a pop singer/songwriter from Ontario. Her debut album Ivan Blackbird's Story was released last June. She started out as a keyboard and multi-instrument player in the band of Hawskley Workman but her solo project allowed her to be more diverse than when she was in the band. Check out this hauntingly innocent track off the debut called Not to the Day . Ruth Cassie- Not to the Day

This year's paradisiacally hedonistic Bloc Weekend draws forever closer, and as ticket sales continued to spiral gloriously out of control throughout the New Year, the Butlins-based event taking place from 11th-13th March is now sold out. With a line up as devastating as the most sepulchral of Aphex Twin visuals, taking in speaker-ravaging sets from the likes of Richard D. James himself, Venetian Snares , Claude Von Stroke and Vitalic , Dots & Dashes will be calibrating a Ones To Watch shebang of sorts, our odyssey into the [...]

A couple of choice reissues for your perusal; Ruth's 'Polaroid/Roman/Photo' recently resurfaced as part of the 80's synthwave/dark pop revival. The record only sold 50 copies when first released in 1985, it's now become a rare collectors item and will set you back over 300 notes. The Angular Recording Corporation have done us all a favour and given the record a much needed reissue. Pick it up at Boomkat . (Download) The Light in the Attic label are also doing a fine job in unearthing long lost [...]

Money In Bank - (Cost Of Pot Noodle * Days Left Until Next Paycheque) = X Hopefully you’ll forgive me for starting off with a little bit of mathematics, but the formula above is key to understanding the relationship between the record collector and the long lost album. When the aforementioned record appears in some form or another (e.g. e-bay, record shop, discogs etc) the fan will apply the above formula and if X is greater than 0, they will purchase the record. As we all know records are more important than a [...]

There was a none too distant time when independent record stores were filled with enticing eye candy and weird and wonderful sounds, in place of Tame Impala snapshot sets, book signings, and the kudos of slinging around a Rough Trade East tote. Polaroïd/Roman/Photo is a record enriched with such sounds that were it juiced, it could water Offset Festival for twenty-five years at the very minimum. For this seminal record from Parisian photographer and graphic artist Thierry Müller under the pseudonym of RUTH is the sound of Black Devil writhing around a blackroom floor with Cluster, [...]

Huzzahs, a flagon of mead, and a turkey leg for all the attention being paid to late 70s/early 80s synth music these days. Scholars and historians agree that the late 70s and early 80s were the most exciting time ever for music. The most recent collection of this stuff to enter my brain is Angular Records ' Cold Waves and Minimal Electronics Vol. 1 , which shares a track (Ruth's "Polaroïd/Roman/Photo") with another one of my go-to compilations, BIPPP: French Synth Wave 1979-85. Angular's got a blog about this [...]

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across an underground '80s synth movement sometimes referred to as "minimal wave" and for some reason, decided it was amazing. My uncontrollably impulsive late-night nature subsequently led me to go out and buy Cold Waves + Minimal Electronics Volume One , a new compilation of previously buried tracks which dropped last month courtesy of Wierd Records (ego note: it's meant to be "ie" in this instance...ahem) and Angular Recording Co. After marvelling at the beautiful digipak artwork and deciding I was definitely going to watch Tron later, I shoved the [...]

Sophomore album from Athens six-piece is chicken soup for the punk soul

Nana Grizol - Cynicism Cynicism isn't wisdom; it's a lazy way to say that you've been burned. A gentle song for a sunday and the opening track from Nana Grizol's forthcoming second album, which is a varied release put together with the help of Elephant Six regulars from Elf Power, Music Tapes and Neutral Milk Hotel. Ruth is available digitally now and gets a physical released through Orange Twin on January 12. MySpace Label [...]

Dear Nia Vardalos, Just because you had one successful film (which no one remembers at this point) does not give you the right to make the world's worst movie. Do you honestly think we want to see you having sex? Just because you lost a couple of pounds does not make you Carrie from Sex and the City. You still look like Mike's grandmother, Ruth. And why do you look constipated during the entire movie? Is that simply you being a terrible actress or actually related to your recent weight loss? Whatever it is, it pissed me off, [...]

Photography by Tsuru TSURUFOTO now on ETSY! Well, it's Wednesday and our "Dirty" Photo Contest is over! Cameras down! Heeeenry, I'm looking at you, I said CAMERAS DOWN! There, that's better. I gotta say, you guys really came through! We had a lot of great entries, I've got some great photobug readers, it was very hard to figure out who the winner should be.... Also, if you read the title [...]
