Tweet Tony Ferraro is one of a few musicians in Denton, Texas that can be found here and there and everywhere. He's played in a multitude of local bands, several involving Ryan Thomas Becker of RTB2 . Not much has changed with the birth of The Satans of Soft Rock, which also features Becker. The debut single and B-side from the band were actually recorded to four-track cassette by Ryan Becker, then mixed and mastered by Michael Briggs of Denton's Gutterth label. It's [...]

Tweet I'm just gonna come out and say this: RTB2 could kick The White Stripes' ass. If The White Stripes were still together. But since they are not, this little gem of a duo from Denton, Texas are at the top of the game. They are the new dons of the bluesy post-punk mafia. It's a small mafia, admittedly. The band's moniker denotes the "two" guys playing the songs of Ryan Thomas Becker (with Grady Don Sandlin on the drums), one of Denton's [...]

As you take a look through the list of my favorite singles from this past year, you may notice something a little off. Yep, my favorite songs this past year have been dominated by a lot of female artists or female fronted bands. But, the men also represent this year... just not as strongly as last year. 16. Trouble Andrew - Chase Money Snowboarder turned electro-punk Trevor Andrew turned in one of the best songs of the year with "Chase Money." It keeps the punk philosophy, adds some electronics [...]

On his sixth solo album Denton's Ryan Thomas Becker opts to show off his softer side. Even without all the gritty guitar wizardry fans of his RTB2 project have become accustomed to Neighborhoof is still marked by Becker's best asset: his voice. And when all the sonic wizardry and wandering solos are stripped away it is Becker's soulfully smooth quiver the disc leans most heavily upon. Although mixed at Echo Lab, the lo-fidelity four-track sound quality and varied subject matter give the album an intimate, homemade feel, and in addition the slide guitar overdubs sprinkled over [...]

Ryan Thomas Becker is better known around these parts as the frontman/geetarist for Denton's RTB2. But, Ryan is releasing his latest solo album that has him keenly treading the line between sensitive singer-songwriter and full-on rock master. Don't look for any John Mayer type ballads to make the girls weep, it's not that kind of singer-songwriter album. He deftly moves around the spectrum of with a slowed down, rocked up lo-fi sound that would make Gorilla vs. Bear jizz his pants. It's kinda criminal that "Seek [...]

Just as Mount Righteous frequently receives erroneous associations to fellow Dallas big band Polyphonic Spree based almost solely on the number of members it has, I'm sure Denton's own RTB2 gets its fair share of fallacious White Stripes comparisons. Sure there are two of them and like the Stripes RTB2 are talented enough to make you forget all about bass instruments, but that's where the similarities end. For one thing, judging from their raucous live performances, drummer Grady Don Sandlin could drum circles around Meg White --probably with one arm and leg tied behind his back. And while [...]
