Yesterday I got stuck driving 3 hours north for a 3:00 meeting that ended up only lasting 15 minutes. When the meeting was scheduled I wasn't sure when I'd get home so I asked Beverly to cover the show for me and when I got out so early I decided to take advantage of the situation and go beer hunting. Beverly did a great job with the show and I ended up scoring a good collection of beers I can't get down here in the St. Petersburg area. Win, win if you ask me. This week's episode [...]
Ryan Adams does a live, acoustic version of Danzig's classic 'Mother.'
As I jump back into the world of blogging (I promise, baby, this week I'll be different), I figure I need to address the biggest music event of the past few weeks...Record Store Day. I've been going every year and when I used to get to the store about 30-minutes prior to opening, I was upset that I was 5th or 6th in line. But every year the line has been getting longer, forcing me to get
Not-at-all-metal musician Ryan Adams' love of extreme music is not news, and the dude has already covered Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years" and Alice in Chains' "Down in a Hole." Now Metal Insider tells me that Adams has been doing an acoustic rendition of Danzig's "Mother" at some of his recent European shows; you can listen to [...]

Folk musician and all around cool guy Ryan Adams is known for covering pretty much anything (Remember Wonderwall?) but this cover of Danzig's 'Mother' might top them all. Included with the fantastic cover that was recorded during a gig in Paris, is the uploader's picture of a peaceful cat. Reminds me of the 405 cat in chill vibes. You can check out the performance below.

[ Diffuser ] Noted metalhead Ryan Adams did an acoustic cover of Danzig 's "Mother" and its obviously awesome. This had to happen eventually. Ryan Adams has been doing a whole lot of acoustic metal covers lately, and Danzig's crossover roar " Mother " seems to be just about every indie rock type's favorite metal jam. And at a few recent European shows, Adams has been playing a delicate, haunted solo-acoustic version of the song. Listen to a fan-made recording of it, taped at a Paris show earlier this month, below. Read More...

It was only a matter of time before the self-proclaimed "Danzig of alternative country" stripped down his hero's most famous song into a low-key solo number. "Everything is always about Danzig eventually. Danzig, good lovin' and pizza," Ryan Adams wrote for The Awl in 2009, before sharing a fantasy about the pair meeting "for a two player run with some or all the members of Whitesnake." A year later came their real-life introduction (complete with photo op ) and now for the inevitable acoustic homage. Adams brought out the tune for encores along a few European dates [...]

Thoughts on Shows by Tom Sweeney Review Notes : Apr 25, 2012 Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, UK Illustration by Sam Washburn The Royal Concert Hall is a strange place to see someone like Ryan Adams; a rather [...]

Plush carpeted corridors lead to a warmly lit auditorium where ushers in starched red waistcoats and even starchier smiles politely guide you to your seat. It's all a far cry from the first time I saw Ryan Adams in the gritty bowels of Nottingham Rock City with a badly bleached mop-top, gurning his way through the words to his latest album, Rock N Roll , and living his life to the same cliche. A lot has changed in the last eight years. A shrill Scottish accent fills the room ordering in hammy-humour that [...]

We've got an unusually large post today, both to acknowledge a growing backlog of recent projects from familiar, beloved folk artists, and to make up for our recent vacation-driven absence from these pages. Read on for an unheard-of 20-track (Re)Covered set , focused around a plethora of new releases and recordings from singer-songwriters and bands previously featured on the Cover Lay Down radar screen... I've known of Halifax-based singer-songwriter Rose Cousins for years, though almost exclusively through her rich and ongoing collaboration with a number of local [...]
A funny thing happened while listening to Ryan Adams' s iTunes Session . I was prepared to deem it unnecessary, yet another iTunes cash grab full of neutered tunes which were much better on the studio albums they came to life on. Fortunately for Adams, he doesn't suffer the same fate of the Wilcos of the world. If you thought he was stripped bare on Heartbreaker or even his most recent effort, Ashes & Fire , think again. This session showcases a version of Adams we haven't heard (bootlegs [...]

In the wake of Record Store Day, it seems that there's another pretty big week of new releases to close out the month of April. Both Patton Oswalt and Paul F. Thompkins have new DVDs courtesy of Comedy Central, Ryan Adams and LP both have live sessions out, and electro clash remnants Soviet release "Life Begins at Retwirement" (pictured). Of course, that's just the start of things with new records from The Maccabees , The Dandy Warhols , and Toro Y Moi as well. We possibly [...]
