This is Seriously '90s-sounding indie rock.

Documentarian Jenny Matz has been working on the Rye Coalition documentary Rye Coalition: The Story Of The Hard Luck 5 for quite some time.

Jersey City's Rye Coalition were a sonic force to be reckoned with Saturday night, at Maxwell's in Hoboken. The sold-out crowd wasn't just warmed up, but rather fired up, when Louisiana's blues based, Guitar Lightnin Lee and his Thunder Band, smoked the stage. By the time Rye Coalition hit their first note, Maxwell's was so packed that it was as hot as a show in July. This was the first time the band has played live in 5 years, and it was clear to see they did not dissappoint.

Jersey City's Rye Coalition have been away from the spotlight for quite some time. While R.C members have been working on other music projects such as The Black Hollies and Cold Fur,many fans were wondering if the band would ever play another show again. This Saturday at Maxwells,Rye Coalition will be playing their first show together in five years. The band took some time to answers some questions about their recent whereabouts, upcoming documentary and chances for another album. 1)What have the band been up to? [...]

I found out the classic Epitonic was back online the other day , and I've subsequently been scrounging around there, waxing nostalgic about all the awesome music I discovered throughout the years thanks to Epitonic. With all the reminiscing, I thought it might be good to compile a mix of - if memory serves - the first song I heard from 10 different bands I found on the site. This list is in no way comprehensive, but these 10 were definitely situated in the forefront of my mind when poking around. I still listen to [...]

Our next series of q and also a comes from the duo of James and Brett from experimental gameboyDS noise outfit Endless Endless Endless . q: What is the last song you (really) heard? j: I have been going through a big Arvo Pärt phase right now and I'm loving his stuff, the only problem is the huge changes in decibels don't work so well when i am on the train. I like the music to be louder then the talking of other people so when the [...]

Turns out the new 13th Floor Elevators box set won't be sitting in my CD player as long as expected. The Black Hollies are pitch-perfectly channeling that era of psychedelic nuggets with their upcoming album, Softly Towards The Light , to be released October 6th by the Ernest Jenning Record Co. If'n you like the sound of "Run With Me Run", you might just wanna check out their tour with Benjy Ferree. Dates are posted below. It's like if, what if man, what if there is a time after the 60s but before the 70s. [...]

Chaos has descended upon our nation's capital and 2 million people have come to welcome our new president. This means that I have been subjected to tour buses trying to parellel park on the street, masses of people lost on the metro, and near stampede's outside of Ben's Chili Bowl 1 as the nation lines up for a half-smoke and to see where our new president had a mikshake. In the midst of all of the insanity, the following musically related things have gotten me through the inaguration. 1. Jets to Brazil - "Sea Anemone" [...]
The name Rye Coalition may conjure up images of a bluegrass or country act, but the Jersey band's hard rock sound is more like a hybrid of Kiss and Foo Fighters with a flash of metal. Fitting since... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**
From ESPN : Barry Bonds, baseball's home run king, was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice Thursday and could go to prison instead of the Hall of Fame for telling a federal grand jury he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs. The indictment, culminating a four-year investigation into steroid use by elite athletes, charged Bonds with four counts of perjury and one of obstruction of justice. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison. Yikes. This is a big deal. For Bonds, for baseball, and for all of [...]

I remember not being too impressed the first time I saw Rye. Certainly not impressed enough to shell out $4 for their demo. Then, a year later, they put out the "New Sheriff In Town" 7" on Troubleman which I bought and loved. So I missed out on my opportunity to pick up the demo when I had the chance, but I found it again via Soulseek. Whenever I get the chance, I will still go see Rye Coalition play, but I certainly prefer the more rockin' sound of old to today's more metal sound. Download: Rye [...]

Recently I spoke with Dave Leto from the Mighty Rye Coalition about Dave Grohl, being in a band forever and one of my favorite topics, New Jersey. Check it out below: ] Can you tell me who's in the band and what they do ? Ralph Cuseglio Singer, Lyric Writer, Former David Yow Slapee, Current David Yow Slapper, They have that Rick James/ Charlie Murphy relationship. Also drives a cab (poorly) and has the craziest hookshot in basketball since Kurt Rambis Jon Gonnelli [...]
Rye Coalition fire hard rock with enough flare to put any comparisons to the likes of The Jesus Lizard far from...no, actually, Rye Coalition resemble the harder sounds encompassed by The Jesus Lizard, only if The Jesus Lizard had Vince Neil's cousin singing against the backdrop of modern day glamless glam-rock. They're powerful without [...]
