[Here's a couple of cool covers to get you over the hump this week...] LP , "Halo (Beyonce cover)" - Just to be clear, this is LP not El-P. Hip-hop would only be so lucky to have a voice like this, and not many can pull off that Bob Dylan look as well as she does. A songwriter for big stars like Rihanna, Christina Aguilera and more behind the scenes, but a rock tornado of distinct powerhouse vocals of her own on [...]

Sad Baby Wolf is what you get when you throw in two ex- Shins and a few other talented musicians. The band quietly released their debut single "8th Level" last December and a few weeks ago recorded a session at the famed Daytrotter Studios. Sad Baby Wolf are now taking their gauzy, bass-laden indie rock to the discography of Neutral Milk Hotel , covering the band's classic 1994 debut single "Everything Is." Sad Baby Wold - Everything Is [Neutral Milk Hotel] watch the original

Sad Baby Wolf have covered Neutral Milk Hotel's early classic Everything Is . Instead of trying to bring the track to a more modern place, the band embraced the distinct '90s sound that Neutral Milk Hotel helped shape. SBW makes the song their own though, with Maury Crandall's more prominent drumming and Marty Crandall's vocals giving the song a more cohesive feel than the original. The band maintained the conscious fuzziness of Jeff Magnum's original vocal recording, and added just a little bit of spit shine to polish up the [...]

1. Simone Felice - "New York Times" (The former member of The Felice Brothers released his self-titled debut solo album this week on Team Love Records. An accomplished novelist and poet, Simone is a great storyteller and his lyrics show attention to every detail. The music is a sparsely arranged set of soulful, gospel-soaked folk with guests from Mumford & Sons and a local girl's choir on the stunning debut.) http://www.simonefelice.com/ Download: http://team-love.com/home/wp-c ontent/uploads/2011/12/03%20Ne w%20York%20Times.mp3 [...]

While everyone else with the means to grab tickets to the Flaming Lips show on the opening night of Noise Pop Festival was immersed in confetti and balloons. The rest of us Noise Poppers decided to witness The Hold Steady's lead vocalist Craig Finn hold down the Bottom of the Hill and share his solo material to the sold out crowd. Now I am not a huge Hold Steady fan. I like the 2006 hit album Boys and Girls in America as much as the next guy. There are even a few songs off [...]
Sad Baby Wolf had a stunningly solid performance at their first show outside of New Mexico and Craig Finn gained fans at Bottom of the Hill with his colorful anecdotes.

Tweet vaso link Having been a big supporter of The Shins since their beginnings with Oh, Inverted World , I was not altogether joyous when James Mercer decimated the band by axing founding member Marty Crandall amongst others. A parting of ways under such circumstances could certainly be seen as the end of what I loved about the band prior, as it's hard to believe the essential formula of what gave the band its identity prior could survive such [...]

It's January and it's not cold. I know, right? I might make it out of my first ever winter without seeing a snowflake, when they've had snow three times just four hours away from me. Strange. Plus, the Caps are still mired in mediocrity. At least Ovechkin is scoring a few goals now though…look how happy Semin is when they win a game nowadays. Anyway, I'm here to deliver yet another twelve pack of MP3 goodies that have been dropped off in the past bit by PR companies/bands/well wishers that we haven't had time to pick through or [...]
