The good folks over at the official South By South West website have released a fresh list of artists that are scheduled to play at the festival . With nine artists and Ashutosh Phatak already confirmed to play at the festival, this new list puts some strength into the lineup with the addition of, among others, New York indie rockers Ra Ra Riot, dance-pop act Friendly Fires and singer-songwriter Ben Harper with his new project Relentless7. The new list is Ra Ra Riot (Syracuse, NY) Gabriella [...]
To begin with Dälek could actually be outer-space mutants comprised of metal objects. Seems' pretty nasty. But in this world, Dälek is a rap duo that releases albums on a rock/metal label . Beginning with the brightly colored and seemingly happy album From Filthy Tongue of God and Griots , this group has enamored and confused left-field hip-hoppers. Being matched with Patton's Ipecac label is actually a sensible concept, much like Sage Francis or Eyedea signing to Epitaph. There is a white audience for this music and every [...]
With 2009 getting closer, both confirmations and rumors are starting to surface about next year's hottest major music festivals. And with March inching closer every day, Austin's famous South by Southwest is already getting ready to win our hearts over with yet another festival encompassing every kind of music possible and more. Currently, SXSW is bragging about the alleged 1,800 acts it plans to feature during its five day duration on March 18-22. Talk about intense, eh? And now, with 2009's first performers officially confirmed, SXSW is on its way to becoming [...]

"I know that." help me yo.
Hey Hey Hey It's Election Day! Go Out And Vote So They Can Hear What You Have To Say (The Voting Machines Already Know The Results Anyway) Seriously though. Go out and vote. NOW. (If you don't live in the US... Go pretend to vote, that's what we do in the states anyway). Sage Francis is a poet, rapper, and artist who some believe to be severely unappreciated in the worlds of politics and music, both. It's a shame since this Rhode Island native continually strives to influence positive change in America and abroad, while toting a hefty discography including his latest, Human The Death Dance . Upon the release of a free download of his charitable single, "Conspiracy To Riot", Francis and his label Strange Famous Records created a website collecting donations for what he believes is unjust. During the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis. [...]

First Ted Leo , now Sage Francis has recorded his reaction to the violence against protesters and journalists at the 2008 Republican National Convention. Francis has released a song "Conspiracy To Riot" and set up a website, conspiracytoriot.com , to raise funds for his friend, journalist Jared Paul. Francis stated, "out of the thousand unjust arrests that will happen this year, why am I focusing on this one in particular? Jared Paul is a fellow Providence poet and musician. We've lived together, toured together, protested together, argued with one another from [...]

When you're a renowned hip-hop critic, folks are constantly asking how you feel about rap music's sweet new turd of the minute. I'm constantly confronted by fools who want my opinion of Kanye West (yuck!), Lupe Fiasco (go fuck yourself), and every hipster rap icon from Kid Sister (yummy) to Spank Rock, who Knife has scolded me for abusing here on JumpTheTurnStyle. I'm not sure if it's just because people are looking for something to talk to me about since I loathe sports, or because they're just trying to irritate me, but this line of discussion propels [...]
Pacifist observers of the ongoing beef between Providence indie rap hero Sage Francis and Southie rhyme king Slaine should be excited to know that the Internet-fueled feud between the two heavyweights has not ended in a blood bath. Sources on the ground at this past night's Scroobius Pip show at The Paradise report that while the two finally had a heated exchange in person, no punches were thrown, nor were any weapons pulled. I think I speak on behalf of all mature rap fans when I say that this is a good thing, and not just because a Slaine-Sage rumble [...]

This "Clip of the Week" is DOWNLOADABLE! One of the classics and a staple of Sage's live set since 2003. Enjoy! (listen to the clip of the week on the right, and click here to download) Originally by admin from Strange Famous Records on January 22, 2008, 8:45am
This is good. When Rhode Island rapper Sage Francis was solicited on MySpace by a company calling itself "Want More Plays" instead of ignoring the spammer, he played along. Artists Can Pay To Increase MySpace Play Stats: well it's kind...

Father Christmas was kind enough to treat me to a USB record player so I've spent some happy days digging through crates and playing some vinyl, ripping it my PC if it's any good. This is from a promo Vinyl (signed by Sage himself no less) from Hiphopsite.com before it moved into selling overpriced digital downloads. I've always liked Re-animator's mixtape " Music to Slit Wrists By " and this is in a similar vein (no pun intended!) - dark hiphop, with some luscious horns coming in near the end. Highly recommended. [...]
Man, the weather has gone wonky here in Austin. One day it's freezing cold, and then the next it's hot and humid. I honestly never know if I should leave the apartment in shorts or a heavy jacket. It's bizarre, especially when you consider that it's freaking December! Anyhow, let's get on with the mid-point of my list extravaganza. Enjoy. Please visit the site for more commentary and downloadable songs.

Chicago's own Walter Meego will be playing an early set at AV-Aerie (2000 w. fulton). The location changed, so if you were already planning on going and haven't heard, there it is. Bring everybody you know, because the show's all ages and only costs five bones if you get there early. Should be a kickass gig. Currently, they're working on a new album and I'm definitely going the be all over it when it drops. Right now you can peep some of their new demos on their Myspace . [...]

Master M.C. Sage Francis is on the road spreading the word - his word. If you're not familiar with Francis, think Kid Rock meets Eminem , except with a lot more skills, more intelligence, and a sharp sense of humor. He's promoting his latest album Human the Death Dance , which has gotten all sorts of praise, by hitting the road with Against Me! through the end of the month. Catch him if you can. As part of the current tour, Francis will participate in a special benefit [...]
