Sally Shapiro , Swede pop's most mysterious duo, has us completely enchanted by their latest album, Somewhere Else . In fact, we were pretty much hooked on Sally and producer Johan Agebjorn 's brand of mesmerizing, lush synthpop thanks to Shapiro's 2006 debut, Disco Romance , and its follow-up, 20092s My Guilty Pleasure . So consider us Italo-tickled to premiere the video for the latest single off Somewhere Else , "If It Doesn't Rain." The clip features the handy work of director Iris Beatrix , who edited footage [...]
Goals With Somewhere Else being the Swedish italo-disco duo's first release in four years and the knowledge that the band does not perform live, our goal with this worldwide campaign was to revitalize their social presence and develop alternative ways for them to interact with fans. Tactics First step: refreshing Sally Shapiro's Facebook ...

As the dust of Canadian Music Week settles, Montreal's unique brand of shoegaze and psychedelia departs town in the form of Suuns. Releasing their first LP, Zeroes QC , back in 2011, they've been looked to for an equally eclectic mix of electronic and rock sounds in their follow-up. On March 4, Suuns released Images du Futur , their most accomplished effort, produced by Jace Lasek of The Besnard Lakes. With a spray of noise rock laid out across their expanse of hypnotic rhythms and murky vocals, Suuns remained a band capable of keeping control of their sound, [...]

February's compilation is a tidy 13 tracks, a few less than usual but just as strong as any month. My recent move back to the East Coast made posting difficult the past week; moving is one thing, but moving across the country for the second time in six months is a nightmare. Readers can expect updates to resume on a daily basis now that everything is settled. I'm looking forward to getting re-acquainted with the NYC scene and its venues again. The East Coast has drawn me back and I plan to make the most of it. As for [...]

By Kenny McMurtrie March 04, 2013 Studio album number three from the Swedish duo finds them once more delivering ice cold (though not quite glacial) synthesiser-based pop and typically catchy Italo disco. The album starts and ends slow and moody with ‘I Dream With An Angel Tonight’ and the instrumental ‘Postscript’ but between those it’s glitterball and flashing dancefloor time. Publicity shy and pursuing recording as a hobby as much as anything (something we at Muso’s can readily relate to) ‘Sally Shapiro’ and producer/musician Johan [...]
¡Volved, cabrones ! ¿Es que no habéis escuchado? ¡¡Saint Etienne, Annie, Belle & Sebastian!! ...¿Pero qué más queréis? [...]

Guess what? The new Sally Shapiro record, Somewhere Else , is very good! In case you’re under the impression that Sally Shapiro is content three albums deep into her career, she’s not. “The title describes the recurrent theme in the music and my life, to somehow never be satisfied with what you have, or where you are — to always wish you were somewhere else,” Shapiro explained of the title of her new record in the official blurb about the release. It’s not all that surprising to hear from [...]

Atoms For Peace – Amok (XL Recordings) Thom Yorke é genial. Todas as faixas do disco [...]
The third album from accomplished italo disco revivalists Sally Shapiro finds them more playful with their influences and writing great melodies again.

Sally Shapiro 's new album, Somewhere Else , is out today on Paper Bag Records. Here are two tracks to make you move.

Well, this new Sally Shapiro record is a bit of a hoot. Building on the foundations of the duo's previous Italo-disco homages, the mysterious Swedes are back, blurring the line between that genre and its close relative, Hi-NRG, to winning effect. As a general observation, we have here a bunch of strong, well-structured danceables, brimming with powerful melodies and terrific beats. True, Shapiro and Johan Agebjörn are not breaking any new ground, but with material this good, you can get away with enhancing the genre merely by showcasing its best aspects. 'I [...]

The synth-pop duo returns with their first album in four years. Paper Bag Records, 2013 5.2 / 10 Sally Shapiro is an artist (er, duo-it’s complicated) whose work I’ve been meaning to check...

As a reminder that Sally Shapiro 's excellent LP Somewhere Else drops tomorrow on Paper Bag , Stereogum has premiered two new tracks from the record: the spellbinding "Sundown" and club-thumper "All My Life." Listen below, or listen to the whole record over at Pitchfork , and/or catch Sally and producer Johan Agebjörn's Facebook live chat/online launch party tomorrow. Take a listen to "Sundown" and "All My Life" two more tracks from Sally Shapiro's upcoming album Something Else . Both are racked with the sweetness you come to expect from Shapiro but are suited for different moods. "All My Life" is primed for the dancefloor, while "Sundown," which was produced by Johan Agebjörn is an energetic ballad that Shapiro adorably coos all over. Those two will be doing a live-chat on Facebook tomorrow in honor of the album's release. You can join them here and check out the two tracks [...]

With new albums from Sally Shapiro and Shout Out Louds dropping tomorrow, it’s a great week for Swedish indie pop. Shapiro’s album includes one of my favorite tracks of 2013 thus far, the addictive, pulsating electro-pop track “Starman”, which would have fit perfectly on the Drive Soundtrack (fittingly enough, the track was co-written by “A Real Hero” guests, Electric Youth ). Somewhere Else is out tomorrow on Paper Bag Records .

Sally Shapiro first came into our lives way back in 2006. This duo, because Sally Shapiro is a duo, made up of ElectroPop producer extraordinaire Johan Agebjörn and an blissful unnamed singer whom we shall henceforth call Sally (to avoid (or create) confusion), have put out some of the most exciting, listenable, Italo-Disco tinged ElectroPop records in the last decade. Released today is album number three, Somewhere Else , that has already spawned the acclaimed singles What Can I Do? and Starman , the latter featuring a guest turn from Toronto’s [...]
