![[Interview with] Dan Deacon After Kitchener Waterloo Symphony](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3215723_lg.jpg)
Photo by Todd Seelie (This interview was originally written by SFCritic for Pulse SF Station ) Dan Deacon has reached a turning point in 2011. He has just written and conducted his first symphony performed by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in Ontario, Canada, and he will soon complete a film score for Francis Ford Coppola’s newest movie, Twixt Now . It’s a personal growth that was necessitated from a realization he gained during a lecture by Meredith Monk who at the time suggested contemporary listeners no longer desire new music. In a phone [...]

I originally included this track on the Musical Pairings' December mixtape, but that particular mixtape isn't long for this world (mixtapes hog up a ton my storage space so I only host them for a limited time). Nonetheless, it is a pretty awesome track and I wanted to give you a second chance to check it out if you missed it the last time around. So the story behind this one is that Carlos Santana's son, Salvador Santana, recorded a track called "Keyboard City." The Hood Internet decided to do a remix that included a verse by [...]

Oh man, you just know everything written about Salvador Santana until the end of his career is going to reference/compare/name drop his dad . Even talking about the album cover brings up the subject, especially since one of Papa Santana's best covers uses his son's namesake. Honestly I can't decide if I really like this one or not, which is what intrigued me enough to post it. It looks great shrunk down to iPod screen size. The altering red shades in the font is spectacular. On the other hand, [...]

Comic borrowed from xkcd Happy Singles Awareness Day or SAD. My friend Arlie just informed me of this rather appropriate name for the fake holiday made-up by greeting card companies. It seems like people celebrate it either on or one day near the 14th. Not all of the songs in this week's mix fit the theme, but a few do. Hope you enjoy. Don't Do It by Salvador Santana From: [...]

Kicking off this week's new album releases on Groundhog's Day, we have Toro Y Moi's Causers of This , which is a very worthy debut amongst the ever-growing amount of bands coming down the pipe of similar ilk. Also garnering a lot of buzz is Midlake's The Courage of Others , the follow-up to to 2006's The Trials of Van Occupanther . I've yet to hear this one myself, but I did enjoy their previous album to some extent, so I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out soon. [...]

Happy Holidays from Musical Pairings @ eating/sf! For us, like many others, the arrival of the winter holidays means spending some time traveling. At the time of posting, Kasey and I are in flight from San Francisco on our way to Ohio to celebrate Christmas with my family. And when I have to spend time traveling in a car, plane, train or boat, I find that music makes the time go by a little easier. So with that in mind, I put together Musical Pairings @ eating/sf's "the december mix." Chock full of delicious new [...]
