Last month I worked up a little screed wondering what had become of Sam Quinn . Good news is he hasn't disappeared. In fact, he's done the impossible. I grew up in Eugene, Oregon, which was the smallest city on the Grateful Dead's annual itinerary. When they'd come the place would just swarm with stinky dirt-heads selling fake hits of acid, clamoring for 90 minute versions of "Truckin'." After the Dead would move on, many would remain marooned, looking for handouts or rides to the next show. As punks we detested them and their [...]
Pickathon's getting close. (And if you ain't got the dough, they're looking for volunteers —probably not a bad way to experience the festival... I've noticed the staff having just about as good a time as anyone else out there on Pendarvis Farm in years past.) But I can't help myself—when I think about Pickathon I think about Sam Quinn. The first time I found him around midnight, head half-twisted on God knows what. It was outside, under the stars on the Twilight stage. I was stunned. Broken apart by the searing, reserved, heroin twang as [...]
Video: Sam Quinn - "Snow"/ Jill Andrews - "The Mirror" Last year's bittersweet one-off performance left us longing for a proper Everybodyfields reunion, but I'd be remiss in not mentioning the stunning solo material from Jill Andrews and Sam Quinn arriving since. As it turns out, they both filmed Live & Breathing sessions in Knoxville, Tennessee recently: "The Mirror," Andrews' title track off her debut LP below, and "Snow," a new Sam Quinn tune that starts pulling at the heartstrings around the 1-minute mark above.

got a request for a repost of this performance, and leaving what i wrote a year and half ago, cause it still hold true. when its all said and done, the everybodyfield's nothing is okay may go down one day as my favorite record. if you havent heard it, i recommend seeking it out immediately. it was my favorite record back in 2007, and i actually love it more today then i did 2 years ago. its sonically and lyrically gorgeous, but the interplay tween quinn and andrews is heartbreaking and makes for a listen that [...]

![Best Albums of 2010 [Picks 21-30]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3054327_lg.jpg)
We had a few other surprises in 2010. The first was Blitzen Trapper's foray into prog/glam Rock that was controversial to some, but glorious to us. The next was an amazing Americana debut from 19 year old, but wise beyond his years, Dylan Leblanc. I'm still spinning Paupers Field on a regular basis and his voice continues to amaze me. The third, was the debut from The Mynabirds who were kind enough to visit us for a HearYa Live Session. We also had the chance to catch The Dead Weather at a surprise show in [...]
Here we are with my favourite albums of 2010, and again I'm Canadian so I am too polite to put 'best' like I did last year for fear of it upsetting someone! I am just a guy with a music blog telling you what he thinks is good music. And it is good music (possibly the best...wait, I said it...). None the less, below is a list of fantastic albums for whatever reason I have given each in my head (there is just no "explaining" the internal ranking system). Endlessly thinking and trying to decide on each album's importance to [...]

top of the morning. been feeling a wee bit lazy this week due to this cold that doesnt seem to want to go away. anyway, i have been on an everybodyfields kick the past few days and figured i'd repost this show, as i still am lacking in new shows to post. if for some reason you have never heard their 08? release nothing is okay, you really need to. it came in at number 14 on my favorite records of all time i did a few months back. just a wonderful piece of work. much love to [...]
above via toothpastefordinner.com What is it that I am aware of and enjoying the world of music and music blogs? Glad you asked. Did you download the Sam Quinn session at Daytrotter ( HERE )? If so, congrats you are accepted into the inner circle. If not, get thee into the circle by downloading! Current favourite track is the "just a bit too late for the new album" Oceans, so let's listen: "Oceans" Did you see [...]

It's easy to say Sam Quinn's music is sad. When you dive below the surface, however, you'll find beauty in his melancholy and heart on his sleeves approach to writing music. At this point in my life, I couldn't be happier. I've been married to a wonderful and beautiful woman for 12 years, I have three great kids, and live in the suburbs. I'm the god-damned American dream, but like most everybody else, I have had my heart broken. Listening to The Fake That Sunk 1,000 Ships takes me back to some traumatic days moping around [...]

I feel very fortunate to be putting on tonight's show at Club Garibaldi . Please join us for an evening with Conrad Plymouth , Sam Quinn and Megafaun . This show is heading towards a sell out. Tickets will be available online for a limited time today, then available at the door. If you have yet to check out the new Megafaun song "Volunteers" from their forthcoming release, Heretofore (September 14, Hometapes ), please check it out below. MP3: [...]
Their 2007 album, Nothing Is Okay, was one of the most gorgeously heartbreaking records I heard that year, making the Everybodyfields ' split two years later quite the bittersweet event: Part of me knew Jill Andrews and Sam Quinn would turn those newfound woes into beautiful songs. And while their subsequent solo projects pulled through to that end (Quinn made one of the saddest LPs ever, in fact), it yanks at my heartstrings—in the best of ways—to hear these two sing together again. As Stranger Almanac (aka Speakers [...]

Most will recognize/remember Sam Quinn as one half of the now defunct band, the everybodyfields . We were big fans. Sometimes a band break up isn't the end of the world. In the case of the everybodyfields, its dissolve has resulted in equally great solo outputs from Jill Andrews and Sam Quinn this year. Quinn's album, The Fake That Sunk A Thousand Ships has been in near constant rotation since arriving two weeks ago. Quinn's music embodies a timeless quality in that what you're hearing could have [...]
funny things happen when you pose questions/are ignorant. shortly after i posted that jill andrews video, see below, mr captn g8tr informed me that sam quinn's record was already out. here i am acting like the guy is slacking/being a dick, all apologies. all the while, his the fake that sunk a thousand ships has been out for a few weeks. i quickly snatched up said record, and yeah its awesome. if you're a fan of the everybodyfields, or perhaps just have a soul, you should love this. the fake that sunk a thousand ships [...]
May 2010 from Jill Andrews on Vimeo . this is probably as close to an everybodyfields reunion we'll get, but i'll take it. for those unfamiliar with the song, its off lucinda williams' sweet old world . the original is right down there. btw, glad to see sam got rid of the monstrosity of the beard he was rocking for seemingly forever. btw, part two, jill's got a bunch of upcoming dates so click here for the details. getting back to sam, hopefully he puts something out soon cause im sick [...]

Over the last few months I've posted quite a few notices of Album Releases spread across April, May, and June. Here's a re-cap for your pre/late ordering pleasure all in one convenient place: April 6th/ Dr. Dog - Shame, Shame buy: [ CD ][ Vinyl ][ Digital ] I only recently became a Dr. Dog fan, but since I finally gave their 2008 album Fate [...]

According to Sam's website, he's living in North Carolina these days, but he spent the last several years here in Knoxville. That's enough for me to devote the latest segment of "A Little Knox Music" to his upcoming release, The Fake that Sunk a Thousand Ships. Quinn is probably best known to most of you as one half (along with Jill Andrews) of the songwriting team behind indie-folksters the everybodyfields. Of course, the everybodyfields called it quits last June, and Andrews released her first solo EP in [...]

I told you the new music was pouring in. After months of waiting, Sam Quinn - formerly of The Everybodyfields - has released definite album details for his first solo album. The Fake That Sunk A Thousand Ships is set to hit shelves and inboxes May 11th through Ramseur Records. Sam says that the album was written to help himself get through some recent personal stuff - "a real bad year in [his] life." Knowing this, I expect the album to be a slower, melodic piece of folk music. Not [...]

Sam Quinn sums up his style of music in the first 15 seconds of this video: If you go up and cut somebody's stomach with a knife, they're probably going to remember that longer than if you give them a piece of gum. We reported on Sam Quinn not too long ago and described the album as a devastatingly beautiful batch of sad songs. I was unaware of how intentional this was until watching this video that features a few of his new songs, some commentary on how shitty [...]
