Norman Wong Increasingly, Friday posts are for clearing off the decks of whatever hasn't gone out earlier in the week, but that doesn't mean the content isn't quality - this ain't no fire sale, son. But it also doesn't mean I'm not giving some stuff away. Because I am. Earlier this week, Toronto electro-operatic sensation Austra announced details of their second album, to be entitled Olympia and due out June 18. And because they believe in deeds, not words, they also made the first single from the new record available [...]
Now that the holidays are over and people are getting back to their regular routines, we had time to put together the November week-to-week playlists. The December week-to-week top songs will be thin because December is traditionally not a month that there are many new releases. The No. 1 songs for November, in chronological order, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
My “best of 2012″ is coming to its end. Last words to some Swedish artists I love. All of them answered three questions from mine about: What they liked in music this year, especially within Sweden. What they did ... Continue reading

The Swedish Gothenburg foursome Sambassadeur is back with the first production since the critically acclaimed album European (2010). The new single Memories is flirting with a contemporary Serge Gainsbourg and is fully loaded with their trademarked melodies and grandiose arrangements. Download Memories Free Music, Every Day. Today I continue with yet another great single that has been released recently. It's Sambassadeur, hailing from Göteborg, that serves us the song "Memories", a really catchy indie pop tune with some pleasant retro ingredients. Sambassadeur on Facebook - on Spotify - on Wimp Memories

Nearly three years since we last heard from them, those Swedish slackers Sambassadeur have finally appeared from their extended hibernation with new material and a new album looming. And there's been a few tweaks to their sound. Last time out they massaged our furrowed brows with the most blissful dreampop but with its rolling percussion, jagged strings and funky bassline, new single Memories sounds more like New Order after a New Romantic makeover (Hooky complete with mascara, dyed floppy fringe and mauve loons, naturally). It's good but the flipside Hours Away is [...]
A rather thin week for new releases due to the Thanksgiving holidays, but there's still some worthwhile drops to check out, including albums, EPs and singles from Goldenboy, Gospel Claws, Elbow, Sambassadeur, Bad Brains, Naomi Punks, to name a few. Tomorrow, we'll feature Daylight Fireworks, MmMmMm, Remember Your Dead, Morning Harvey, and Adam George. Also, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

It's hard to describe this track as anything other than pop. Orchestral, retro-tinged, and very weird pop. All of which are great things when taken in the overblown 4-minute dose Sambassadeur have concocted here. The Swedish band navigate a lot of ground in the course of the song, from a wild sax solo to a chorus that feels ripped from an ABBA b-side, but somehow wrestle it all together into a song that feels like a very catchy forgotten classic. "Memories" is getting its physical single release today, but you can stream and download the track below.

Release dates on holiday weeks are usually quite slow. As you would expect, today's list of new releases is indeed short, yet there are still a handful of interesting new albums to lure you into record stores before the holiday shopping masses come flooding in. Among them is the long awaited follow up to The Evens ' 2006 LP, Get Evens . Once again on The Odds , husband and wife duo Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi) and Amy Farina (Warmers) pair up on what our Music Director, Don Yates, calls "an often-gripping set of skeletal post-hardcore, [...]

Last week I returned to the present with only a few throwbacks to the 90s toward the end of the show. The split digital/vinyl show featured new tracks from Sleeping Bag, The Babies, Sweater Girls, Gospel Claws, Suturee and Thunder Power. We also featured a few favorites since the year 2000 with tracks by The Anniversary, Tvärvägen and The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. I'm excited for the show coming together for this Friday. It'll be a bit more electronic with several favorites from 2012 including Social Studies, Pure Bathing Culture, Purity [...]
Tweet The exquisite duet, 'Fall For U' by Hugo Manuel (Chad Valley) and Cameron Mesirow (Glasser) has hit number one this week while the chart adds two new tracks in a quiet week. New three quarters Swede, one quarter Australian outfit Kate Boy have debuted at 5 with, 'Northern Lights', their debut single and pumping piece of electro pop heaven. Another Swedish band, Sambassadeur, now into their tenth year, have released a new single, the jaunty and uplifting, 'Memories' and that's in at [...]

Facebook Everyone has heard the old saw about bands having "a lifetime to write the first album, a year to write the second". Similarly, most people can think of an instance or two of "sophomore slump" being more than just a clever bit of alliteration. London's Veronica Falls seem set on not letting the former be any kind of obstacle and sidestepping the latter entirely. Their self-titled debut came out just over a year ago, but they've just announced the follow-up. Waiting For Something To Happen will be out [...]
Two years since their last album, "European," Swedish fourpiece Sambassadeur have returned. Available later this month, their double A-side release includes "Hours Away" and today's free download: "Memories." With bongos keenly introducing the beat and staccato strings following the breathy vocals, this song is playful to the end, even throwing in a good old-fashioned saxophone solo just to make sure nothing is missing. Make the most of a spare four minutes and take a listen. - Christopher Heppinstall

While I don't have an interview or review prepared this week, I do have some catching up to do in the way of singles and the like that have been steadily streaming out. So let's catch up... The Octopus Project have been around a while and anything they release is always highly anticipated. Not only have they released this mesmerizing stop-motion video for Whitby , they've also given us the promise of new record in early 2013. Speaking of mesmerizing, [...]
Today's music is thrilled that Austin's festival season is over. Enjoy. : School Of Seven Bells - Secret Days : This track makes me really happy. I've been wanting School Of Seven Bells to get edgier instead of prettier, and this is finally them giving it a shot. It works. I will now become a producer (not really). Vagrant will release the Put Your Sad Down EP on November 13. : Papa - Put Me To Work : I think these guys are on the verge of having all [...]

Memphis Industries It's been interesting tracking the musical evolution of El Perro Del Mar , the musical project of Sweden's Sarah Assbring. Her 2006 self-titled debut cast her as the mournful ghost of a '50s doo-wop girl while the 2008 follow-up From The Valley To The Stars invited fuller arrangements into the mix - even getting jaunty at points - while keeping the sentiments beautifully downcast. 20092s Love Is Not Pop was took great strides towards feeling more modern, mostly via studio-slick musical [...]
Something about the bass-line makes this especially appealing. This is one act that sounds better (to me) as they age.

nuovo singolo per i Sambassadeur - Memories / Hours Away uscirà per Labrador Records il prossimo 20 Novembre:
