A couple years ago, Django James & the Midnight Squires — a young band fronted by Django Stewart — made some noise around Hollywood with their Bowie-inspired rock. Not long after, Django's older brother Samuel Stewart perked some ears himself with the elastic pop on his EP "The Beginner." Now they are brothers in arms as Nightmare & the Cat, with a self-titled EP on the way later this year. The sons of the Eurhythmics' Dave Stewart (hey, Dad has a new album coming out in August) and Bananarama's [...]

"Oh, Samuel Stewart , you are so grounded . No allowance, and no 'Guitar Hero' privileges for a week!" "Awww, mom ..." OK, so I imagined that exchange after seeing the light-hearted DIY video for "How Long Will It Take," a cover of the 1969 reggae hit by Pat Kelly that later was famously covered by Jeff Buckley. The video, incidentally, was indeed shot at his mother's house. Stewart's pajama-party version of the song has crept into his recent live sets as the young popsmith works on the follow-up to his debut EP "The Beginner" [ free download [...]

On the night after London buzz kids Mumford & Sons packed the Troubadour, another ballyhooed British band, Wild Beasts , takes on the U.S. by playing the West Hollywood venue. The Leeds four-piece [that's the video for "We Still Got the Taste Dancin' on Our Tongues," above], whose sophomore album "Two Dancers" showcases intensely dramatic pop built on Hayden Thorpe's woundedly operatic vocals, makes its U.S. debut supported by Toronto quintet Still Life Still , also making its L.A. debut. ... After covering The Velvet Underground, Beck Hansen takes on another large undertaking of work, in the latest installment of his 'Record Club' series, this time covering Leonard Cohen. I will always stand firm in my belief of where cover songs stand. Unless they are truly "re-imagined" by the covering artist, the original will always reign supreme. Check out "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" by Beck below. "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye (Leonard Cohen)" [...]

Just wanted everyone in L.A. looking for a to do this Thursday night, to check out a great show, from London-Transplant, now L.A. inhabitant Samuel Stewart. Don't let the fact that Samuel Stewart is Dave Stewart's son effect your opinion of him either way - Sam wouldn't like that. The only thing that should matter is how you actually feel about his music, and this weekend he is giving Los Angeles two ways to find out what all of the fuss is about. Tomorrow night he is at the Bootleg Theatre, which is kind of a dump in a sketch neighborhood, but that only adds to its charm. The gig should be fun nonetheless, as it [...]

You maybe heard SAMUEL STEWART on our radio show on WOXY a number of times, well we're getting behind his show this Thursday night at The Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles and giving away two sets of tickets to the show for the first two people that email us at info@futuresounds.com and can tell me the name of one other person in his family that is also in the music business. Sam and his band played Saturday night's Hollywood Brewfest at the Music Box @ [...]

The beers were flavorful, and the indie-rock was tasty — all that was missing from the first Hollywood Brew Fest on Saturday at the Fonda Theatre was a good crowd. The event went flat under a sparse turnout, despite a formidable beer menu and a reasonable-for-an-event-of-its -kind ticket price of $45 (which got you unlimited tastings in nifty 5-ounce glasses all night). The music certainly wasn't lacking in hops. Great Northern [that's Rachel Stolte, pictured at top], Nico Stai and Castledoor turned in typically energetic sets, and Samuel Stewart and [...]

This Saturday night in Hollywood, we're presenting a beer festival at the gorgeous MUSIC BOX @ FONDA where for the $45 ticket price, you can drink unlimited tastings of over 35 breweries while watching bands on two stages and dancing to DJ's on the rooftop. You've been to some beer festivals, you know what I'm talking about, the kind where people have their hat backwards, in some field with white tents, and if they happen to have music playing, it isn't the kind you wanna hear. We're looking to flip that [...]
