Here is part 3 of 1977, the songs that can take me back to the autumn and winter of that year. * * * ABBA – The Name Of The Game.mp3 This is my favourite ABBA song, with a rather endearing video of domestic bliss via a communal game of ludo (it's the name of the game, you see; video here ). I had a bit of a crush on Agnetha. Actually, I still do. I think [...]
!["American Idol" Gets Whacked By Quentin Tarantino [Idolator's American Idolatry]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1656630_lg.jpg)
This week, American Idol goes to the movies, with director Quentin Tarantino sitting in as mentor as the contestants take on the frustratingly vague theme of "songs from film." (Tarantino has actually served as a guest judge on the show in the past, and he's not exactly a pushover , which should be awesome when he deals with Lil Rounds' outsized ego.) The bloodthirsty Tarantino has always had a deft touch when it comes to putting together soundtracks for his own flicks, and part of me kind of hopes [...]
The grammar police will be on your back if you use a double negative, there ain't no doubt. But from my brief days a linguistics major, I learned that "grammatically incorrect" language like this, when used widely enough, takes over. It's how language evolves. So "whom" Nazis, give it up. The double negative is a unique "mistake" though, as it seems socioeconomically based, and racially some too. So I can't tell you whether it will ever become an "acceptable" for of speech. What I do know though, is a lot of great tunes [...]
After only recently realising that Nina Simone did this song originally (doh!), indeed, it was written for her; I had an urge to dig out the versions I already knew, and more besides. The good thing is, these are pretty fine - Yusuf Islam's sticks closest to the original, but every one is more than ok ; even Joe Cocker's, whose voice I normally don't care for. So, in no particular order, other than how they came to hand - here's my top ten covers of Nina Simone's Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood , written by Bennie [...]
. In this instalment, we thank RH for the original of Here Comes The Night and my new friend Kevin for the original of Dedicated To The One I Love. Claude François - Comme d'habitude.mp3 Paul Anka - My Way.mp3 When your inebriated uncle grabs the karaoke microphone and sprays it with his saliva in a regrettable attempt to out-sinatra Sinatra his way, he probably won't wish to contemplate that
Communication Pete Townshend: Communication - 5MB Communication is the process of transferring information from a sender to a receiver with the use of a medium in which the communicated information is understood by both sender and receiver. It is a process that allows organisms to exchange information by several methods. Communication requires that all parties understand a common language that is exchanged, There are auditory means, such as speaking, singing and sometimes tone of voice, and nonverbal, physical means, such as body language, sign language, paralanguage, touch, eye contact, or [...]

A friend of my girlfriend's parents who lives in Marseille is a musician and put all of his music collection from the 60s and 70s into cassette compilations. Last year he decided to get rid of the cassettes and so I inherited them. Lots of them are cassettes full of Led Zeppelin and french pop from the 60s like Francoise Hardy and Michel Polnareff but there are a few compilations of rare disco and other 80s rarities that are quites something. Side A will come later. Side B is particularly good because [...]

A studio group performing in the disco-style of the late 70s, Santa Esmeralda made the US charts in 1977-78 with dance-oriented remakes of two songs originally popularized by the British group the Animals in the 60s. Santa Esmeralda featured vocalist Leroy Gomez (b. Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA), a multi-instrumentalist who had played with Elton John, Tavares and others before taking the Santa Esmeralda position. The group recorded two of Gomez's songs, a cover of Van Morrison 's 'Gloria' and the Animals hit 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood'. An album was built around those songs and itself reached [...]
