LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian don't seem to be wasting any time as the twosome is looking to buy a home together in Malibu. In the mean time, the actor will be moving his things into the country singer's home in Santa Monica. A source close to the couple says that "LeAnn and Eddie know their love has caused pain. But in the end, they decided when real love comes along you have to make room for it, no matter what the cost." Real love my butt. You can hardly find that in Hollywood. Eddie's soon-to-be ex-wife Brandi Glanville recently [...]
Billy Bragg has been mixing pop and politics and hoping to save the youth of America since he started out as 'one-man Clash' in 1977. After projects with Wilco and Woody Guthrie, he will present the U.S. premiere of his vocal version of Beethoven's 'Ode To Joy' in Santa Monica. This interview by Dan Collins.

If you were on fire and I had a full bladder I probably wouldn't put out the flames. I'm kind of not cool like that. But I am cool enough to give you free tickets to the upcoming Cool Catz album release party at the Dakota Lounge this September 5th. You probably want to know where I got the tickets. Lets just say my homie Mike Night stole them from some kids that obviously didn't deserve them because they weren't strong/brave enough to fight him back. For those of you who slept through Math [...]
Traffic - Light Up Or Leave Me Alone
The Mekons lived Leeds but dreamed Texas and Tennessee and after finding their feet in first-wave punk songs like "Where Were You," they left the world of Rough Trade for the open range. They are working on a new album tentatively called 100 Years and singer-guitarist-activist Jon Langford speaks as he takes his dog to the vet. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple were (legendarily) the only people in North Carolina who bought Big Star albums the very first time around, and they'd team up most famously for the power-pop band the dB's. (Stamey would also release Chris Bell's 45 and Holsapple would go on to play with Hootie and the Blowfish!) They are now teamed up as a band with no official name. This interview by Dan Collins.

"From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it traveled the globe." If you haven't already seen it, this video is a must-watch. I first saw it when my cousin forwarded it to me and then it appeared on Gizmodo the next day. As someone who lives in Santa Monica and has worked above the 3rd Street Promenade [...]

JordanShaw posted a photo: The second time we got Sprinkles Cupcakes we took them to Santa Monica to eat them on the beach. It made them much much better than they already are and they are really really good to begin with.

Bootlegs are extraordinary things - they can be a sign of subcultural capital, a souvenir from a gig you were at, or in many cases, the only way you can ever get to experience a band/artist in their prime. They're traditionally supposed to exist outside the official music industry and economy, hence the term bootleg, passed along between fans, acting as a currency of sorts. Of course some people end up making rather official-looking bootleg records and CDs and then selling them, and these bootlegs can become just as treasured and rare as others. I, myself, own most of my [...]
The follow up to Brazilian CSS' "Cansei de Ser Sexy" is called Donkey. Donkey drops today. Video in a previous post. Album art below. Will it live up to it's "urban outloud circus street dancin'" promises? Is that a disco dolphin? Can anyone determine what that cover is? I have so many questions. Questions about Black Kids. No not Jim Crow and segregation. The Band. Where'd they come from? [...]

Baby Got Back - Jonathan Coulton 10.9.2006 - Temple Bar, Santa Monica, California For cover Friday, the ladies and my poor, tired heart.

Fuck. It's been busy today, as my mother is staying in Santa Monica and I've been racing back and forth between Echo Park and her hotel for the last twenty-four hours. It's only going to continue tomorrow, so I cannot promise to post much in the way of invigorating, mind-expanding entries. Instead, here's a brief "Artificial Artificial Paradises" LiveJournal entry for you to enjoy. If you don't remember, I used to keep a LiveJournal (2003-2005) that basically chronicled my experiments with various substances intended to catapult normal everyday humans into hyper-aware super-apes, the kind most often referenced on Lee "Scratch" [...]

Twelve noon and eighty-eight degrees doesn't seem like an uncomfortably hot day, but I am sitting in my bedroom (in boxers and a t-shirt...eh? Ladies?) and I have actually broken a sweat. It's not like my desk is in direct sunlight either. I have to crane my neck just to see around a neighboring apartment building. Still, I find it unusual that the days seem to go from unseasonably hot to cold in a seemingly random way. Whatever. None of you care about my life and my daily struggles anyway, so here's a new blog entry for you. [...]
