During a junket to promote his upcoming residency at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the legendary guitarist asked the president to give it serious consideration. "Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education," Santana told the Huffington Post . "You will see a transformation in America."

One of the most enjoyable elements of music blogging is writing about the little bands or artists that wouldn't usually get very much of an outlet. Sure, there's mainstream stuff that's worth writing about too which is obviously important, if only in terms of traffic levels. The most rewarding posts though tend to be the ones about a tiny band that plays to a room of 20 people, yet is still being read about and listened to worldwide, albeit in rather small numbers. In that light, today we have up and coming Minnesota singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. [...]
Reviews of all three discs in Prince's new set including "LotusFlow3r," "MPLSound," and Bria Valente's "Elixer."
For 24 hours (starting this morning at 5 am) Bob Dylan is giving away a new track on his site as a taster for new album 'Together Through Life', released at the end of April. On 'Beyond Here Lies Nothin' it is clear Dylan still loves messing around with genres and this one sounds like [...]

So I wanted to post this last minute before I left to Miami for WMC! This is straight out the studio, and for those of you who follow me on twitter or on facebook - you already know I'm super excited about it! It's already getting huge support and it's only been finished for 12 hours. World, I give you my remix of Santan's Black Magic Woman. I hope you enjoy it, and see you in miami! Santana - Black Magic [...]
Last year, I was infatuated with Light In The Attic's reissue of Cold Fact , the rediscovered lost classic of psychedelic-soul and folk-rock from a guy simply known as Rodriguez . The 67 year-old singer-songwriter will embark on his first ever North American tour this spring that kicks off on April 10 in Madison, WI with scattered dates through the end of June including a stop at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on May 15 that I'm eagerly anticipating. If the music [...]

With all of the festivals going on in 2009, it's starting to seem like the market is getting a bit over-saturated. But lest we forget the one that started them all turns 40 this year, and Woodstock organizers are hoping to land some of the original participants that performed at Yasgur's Farm back in '69, including Santana , the Who , Joan Baez , Joe Cocker , Neil Young and the once-again reformed Grateful Dead . According to The [...]
You Enjoy Myself - Phish ft. Carlos Santana Stowe Performing Arts Center, Stowe, VT This is one of my all-time favorite YEMs and a great way to kick off your weekend. The peak of this is just massive with both Santana and Trey tearing into it. Still takes my breath away every time I hear it.
Check out latest video off The Lonely Island's new 'Incredibad' disc, "I'm On a Boat (feat. T-Pain)". It's definitely worth your time. SubEx has been laughing at Lonely Island songs for nearly 5 years now, and we still pee ourselves when classic "Ardy Party" comes on at our house parties. So you can imagine our delight when we heard they were going mainstream and putting out an epic comedy album for the masses. As good as it was back in the day, the production value one the lastest effort is even more top-notch. Nowhere is this more apparent [...]

Ever wonder why Santana never created an alcoholic beverage? Yeah neither did I, but the boys at Lonely Island have apparently dreamed of the day when Santana Dvx hit the market. It's so ridiculous it makes me wonder how these guys got the Yay area king E-40 to lay down some rhymes?

Yesterday's important Polarizing Platters discussion preempted our 18th day of JAMuary. My apologies. As a way of rewarding your patience, I bring you two Latin-tinged jams. The first is from the Latino rocker you'd most expect to celebrate JAMuary, Carlos Santana , from his Welcome album, which my good friend Townsman Hrrundivbakshi turned me onto. The second jam is from Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez 's solo album, Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fungus . Word is the instrumentals that make up this album were originally intended for use on a [...]

With the long winter days (and a newly developed insomnia) I've been looking through my old albums and giving them a listen. One of the ones I was happy to find was Re-Covers by the Tuvan throat-singing rock band, Yat-Kha. Yat-Kha was founded in 1991 by Albert Kuvezin (known to some as one of the founding members of Huun-Huur-Tu ) and Russian avant-garde composer Ivan Sokolovsky . After touring and playing various festivals, they took the name Yat-Kha and in 1993, made their self-titled debut album. After that, Sokolovsky left and Kuvezin went [...]

With the closing of GSL , Omar Rodriguez Lopez was suddenly left without a home label for his many side projects. Not that he wouldn't have plenty of suiters, but aside from providing a geographical fit, Stones Throw is probably the only label that Lopez could sonically slide seamlessly onto. Omar Rodriguez Lopez's Old Money is the first album that The Mars Volta guitarist/producer/writer/arra nger will release with Stones Throw, officially hitting the streets on January 27, 2009. Claiming to be "the most [...]
