2012 was all-around a solid year for me, matched as always with a great 12 months of music releases. After much internal battling, I have officially selected my top 15 albums of 2012! Here are the first 5 from the list, let me know what you think and stay tuned for the rest. Number 15 Artist: Santigold Album: Master of My Make-Believe Label: Downtown / Atlantic Records Released: April 24, 2012 Peak on UK Charts: 33 [...]

“'All the Rowboats' is far and away the most powerful song on the record (if not the most powerful song Spektor has written to date), even if on first read-through of the lyrics, it’s about a depressing pass through a museum. A haunting piano piece does wonders to cut the soul. The piece rises and falls like a boat caught in a sea storm, and you feel trapped in both the calm and comparative chaos until it ends in what could be small explosions, holes being blasted out of the hull, ultimately sinking the ship and all hopes of survival." [...]
Another late addition to big shows announced this week goes to Santigold! Santigold is coming back another show in support of her recent release, Master Of My Make Believe at House Of Blues Sunset Strip on Saturday, Feb. 9. Tickets...

And here it is, the final piece in the all-too-lovable list week: Bears And Bullets Top 50 Songs Of The Year, numbers 25 through one. #25: Mean Jeans - I Miss Outerspace #24: Oneohtrix Point Never - I Only Have Eyes For You #23: The Walkmen - Heaven #22: A$AP Rocky - Goldie [...]
So apparently, the world is coming to an end today (according to the Mayans). I, for one, have way too much to do in preparation for this, but I figured that it might be a nice gesture to get one final playlist in before we bid thee farewell. Today's Friday Five goes out to all the people getting crunk in the world's closing hours. Slam that champagne, smoke that spliff, jump into that glass case of emotion, and just get crazy! I think we owe it to ourselves to go out with one final bang, right? [...]

2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]
One day after releasing a trailer for their forthcoming album Free The Universe , Diplo -led dance party kings Major Lazer have unveiled the tracklist. Not surprisingly, the album features a wealth of collaborators representing various types of music: there are big pop names ( Bruno Mars , Santigold , Wyclef Jean ), rappers ( Tyga ), indie darlings ( Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend , [...]

This article is a continuation of the my favorite concert moments, in which I give out random awards for moments I find particularly special. 2012 Panicky For Worse Venue Design and Beer Selection: Edmonton Event Centre There are many reasons to hate the Edmonton Event Centre, the over aggressive security staff, the far away location and the absolute lack of any quality beers (the bartender laughed as a struggle to make a selection). However one reason trumps them all, and it is that pillar, which is right [...]

Major Lazer has reveal the album artwork (above) and tracklist (below) for its guest-heavy new album, Free the Universe . After a minor delay , Free the Universe will be out February 19th on Mad Decent/Downtown Records. Along with the tracklist, check out the new video for the Pavilion-aided "Jah No Partial" , which includes shirtlessness and [...]

ILLUSTRATION BY LYDIA CONKLIN Another year has passed, and with that comes our best attempt to gather our favorite tracks and order them from best to, well, the very best. This collective is about as subjective as it gets - it's not something that necessarily represents what was popular or what certain sites wrote about. It's simply the music we loved in 2012. Without further ado, we present to you our list of the top 100 songs of 2012. While we had a blast putting this together, it didn't come without an argument or two. What [...]

We're in our third week of playing some of our "Best Songs of 20123. You can check Week One and Week Two if you missed them. There's no order to them. Why should there be? You should check them all out and decide for yourself. We'll be listing our favorites all month, and we've continued to do so in today's show. So, here's the playlist from today's My Old Kentucky Blog Radio on SIRIUS XMU , Channel 35! [...]

Santigold - Master of My Make Believe Oh, how quickly we forget. Early in 2012, Santigold’s Master of My Make-Believe turned heads, finding its way on many "Best of 2012-so far" lists (which for the record: what a gimmick). From the opening track “Go” listeners are swept up till the album's finish. Within the concise (under 40mins) eleven-track album-a lot happens. It's Santigold-remember. What do you call her music anyhow? Swagged out punk-rock infused hip hop with pop sensibilities. Give me a break! Lyrically, she boasts on “Look At These Hoes,” talk politics on “Disparate Youth,“ [...]

25 Sleigh Bells - Reign of Terror Comeback Kid - Sleigh Bells Sometimes I have these weird dreams where Alexis Kraus is seducing me by playing "Comeback Kid" in a flannel onesie. I wake up hating my life. S 24 Andy Stott - Luxury Problems Andy Stott - Numb A beautiful body of [...]
Another year, another great crop of songs. Some of you might be surprised to see a handful of radio smash hits on here, but I'd be lying to myself and you if I didn't include them in a list of my favorite songs of 2012. There's a Spotify playlist (with a few extra songs) to [...]
Well here we are once again, the end of another year. As has become tradition the State team have been voting for their favourite records of the past twelve months. The top 50 proper is to come, but here are the ones that just missed out: 75. Spook of the Thirteenth Lock - The Brutal Here and Now 74. Jogging - Take Courage 73. The Cast Of Cheers - Family 72. Jessie Ware - Devotion [...]

Photography by Leticia Molina White Arrows warmed up their first show in Oakland on Wednesday night with their self proclaimed “psychotropical” synth-pop tracks. Hailing from Los Angeles, the five man group played a lively show with geometric kaleidoscope-like visuals (can you say psychedelic?) emphasizing tambourines, heavy drums, bass and stellar keyboard work. Their nouveau MGMT -meets- Geographer style has a slight indie-rock sound with similar vocal riffs to TV On the Radio . “Get Gone” was their final tune that most notably sold their fans to an energizing opening act. [...]
The concert was a passionate one night stand.
