The VPME Here's a free download from Sarabeth Tucek, which is an out-take from her second album "Get Well Soon" ( and also the VPME's album of the 2011). As you'd expect it's sparse, haunting beautiful and evocative. You can read our interview with Sarabeth HERE

Happy Xmas folks, here's a special Christmas track from Sarabeth Tucek , who was responsible for our album of the year. It's almost the season to be jolly, but just before the holiday season we are in the midst of "the list." Yes music mags/zines and blogs are full of endless lists, lists about the best albums, best gigs, best songs, lists about lists. It could leave you feeling quite listless and we can't have that, so , here's our list, we've even checked it twice! Yup it's that vertigo inducing career high that results in being presented with a special VPME trophy ( known colloquially as a " Pipster " ) we therefore present the music that touched, inspired [...]

Luther Russell & Sarabeth Tucek in Liverpool September 2011. We've swooned, been moved and waxed lyrical with regard to Sarabeth Tucek and her beautiful album 'Get Well Soon' a number of times on this here blog. In fact such has been our admiration for her work that we may soon have to invent new superlatives in order to attempt to aptly convey the high esteem in which we hold her in. Given the aforementioned two sentences you can doubtless appreciate the giddy rush of excitement we experienced when news reached us of [...]
Always a little disconcerting to find yourself frequenting the House of the Lord in order to indulge in musical delectation that barely borders on the remotely hymnal. More discomfiting still is that empty Carlsberg cans are tonight propped up against a basin of holy water beside the entrance to St. Pancras Old Church, while hymnbook holders serve as cradles for plastic cups brimming with red wine. Beyond the church's swinging glass doors Oh Ruin , bewhiskered and bedraggled, looks a little Messianic, as if delivering an acoustic-led sermon in a possessed fit induced by some form of divine intervention. [...]

Get Well Soon is the sophomore release of Sarabeth Tucek . A beautifully sad album filled with somber melodies, swelling electric guitars and Tucek's striking vocals that cut deep into your soul. Stunning. Oh how I needed this album tonight. I let it in and it stirred all this emotion around. I have to let go of a lot. The Fireman - Sarabeth Tucek Get Well Soon 2011 ( Sonic Cathedral )

The recent looting and destruction in London and beyond saw 165 independent record labels lose a huge amount of stock on Monday night as a Sony distribution warehouse in Enfield was burnt to the ground in a pointless and wanton act of pointless wantoness, which let's face it was far more stupid and senseless than any Will Ferrell movie. So PLEASE, support them by purchasing downloads, these labels aren't ' THE MAN' and many might not survive such a body blow. Labels such as Sonic Cathedral, who introduced me to artists [...]

Sarabeth Tucek - The Fireman (Live session on BBC Six Music, May 2011)

For the past six years I've known an amazing bunch of people through J-Fur's anthropology program. We've gone to concerts and on trips together, cooked food, boated, played shuffleboard, watched movies, spent holidays and been there for each other during some trying times. This week, four of them left to go into the field and begin their dissertation research. At the end of the summer two more will leave and in December yet another two. As you can see, there have been and will be a lot of goodbye dinners in the next few months. While these [...]

First, let me set things strait. I'm exhausted. I've been working 18 - 27 hour shifts all week in Joplin, MO at the disaster relief headquarters, so if these Sabbaths are a little late over the next few weeks, now you know why. I had mentioned in the previous two Sabbaths that for a while The Indie Sabbath is going to step away from its usual format and follow my work here in Joplin, as well as raising awareness for the people in the city of Joplin. I'm going to be writing about some pretty real shit, and if you [...]

Pris - " hotter than Debbie Harry in camiknickers feeding a beef vindaloo to Pan's People in a sauna in Bangkok." 'The Better You Look The More You See " By Pris. Here's the forthcoming debut single from Pris who we have featured a fair few times on The VPME this year ( interview here) Not only do they play power packed, post punk, snot pop with a vengeance, they also spend their spare time pissing off fans of 'serious' bands on twitter. If you've visited this blog before you'll no doubt be aware of our love for Sarabeth Tucek and we have certainly not hid our admiration for her stunning sophomore album ' Get Well Soon. ' She certainly didn't disappoint in the live setting playing a short but achingly beautiful set in Manchester as part of her UK tour (on this occasion supporting energetic folk pop collective The Leisure Society .) This was the first time I'd visited Manchester's ' Band On The Wall' venue run by the not for profit charity Inner City Music and it [...]
