Case Work - Summer’s Ending (but it’s not too late) The title should speak for itself, but it’s the lamenting, loping, laid-back tone that makes it pitch perfect for the Tuesday after the summer-ending holiday. Not surprisingly, it comes to us as a side project of skinny dipping -loving Orlando band Saskatchewan . Photo by Karen Prosen . Previously: “ Slow (down, start living more) ”

The side project of IGIF loved Saskatchewan is very very tasty. Playing under the moniker Case Work , Chandler Strang creates some summery rock jams that are super accessible and pack enough melodies to pull your ears along for a fun ride. A handful of his tracks flirt on the border of lo-fi/shoegaze but then there are driving gems like "Amazon" that have a guitar vibe akin to mid-90s Modest Mouse at times. Summer is starting to slow down but Case Work is looking to squeeze out every last bit of [...]

Case Work - Amazon Well I guess we all have to find something to fill the time as we wait for the debut full-length from Orlando’s smoothest synth-pop project, Saskatchewan. Apparently, even front-man Chandler Strang, needs something to fill the time. And so I give you Case Work . Similarly lush indie pop driven tracks, but with one thing missing….THE SYNTH?! Here’s what Chandler had to say about his new side project: I’ve found that [...]

*PREMIERE* Case Work // “Horizon Glow” I’ve been pretty vocal with my love for Chandler Strang ( Saskatchewan ) and his new project Case Work . And I suppose it was that geekery that played a part in Chandler asking me to premiere his newest track. Now I’m usually not super into the premiere game, but this is an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up. With his first couple of tracks being so well received it would be easy for Chandler to chill [...]

Like with Fraction & Fresh Kils' Extra Science , I was drawn to this new EP from Laika (aka the producer/MC duo of Factor & Kay the Aquanaut) because it features production from one of my favorite CDN producers. In this case though, I was much more familiar with the MC, being fully aware that Kay is one of Saskatchewan's hardest working MC's (after all, he did make an appearance on our Saskatchewan mixtape a few years ago). And like the aforementioned Fraction & Fresh Kils, these two Saskatchewan natives display plenty of chemistry on [...]

Case Work // Case Work EP Case Work is an act that is probably new to many of you. If I were to say that it is the solo work of Chandler Strang, a few more of you might turn your heads. But when I say that Chandler is also a founding member of Florida pop geniuses Saskatchewan , well that should get your blood pumping. He’s been modestly releasing singles for a little while now as Case Work and has recently collected those [...]

Rah Rah's sophomore album, Breaking Hearts was recorded and mixed in Montreal by Kees Dekker (Plants & Animals) released June 1, 2010 following the 2008 debut album, Going Steady. Despite lyrics that touch on underwater sea creatures, stockbrokers, Saskatchewan (and now Montreal), and impressionist painters, their songs are built to break your heart. All this along with the melodic male/female vocals and diverse instrumentation (guitars, bass, drums, keys, violin, accordion, ukulele), ensures that a Rah Rah show will not disappoint. Hey there! You should read this original post on the hill by going here: Def3 - Amnesia Well now, it seems like ages since we've posted any Prairie hip hop, and while this might not normally be an odd occurrence, it's quite a drought for us considering we were once THE home on the web for Edmonton hip hop (not really, but kind of). Luckily, Regina's Def3 comes to the rescue with his new EP Amnesia , which you can snag via pay-what-you-can download from his bandcamp site . And [...]

Hey there! You should read this original post on the hill by going here: Ryan Stinson - FUTURA What does it say that a healthy portion of the new hip hop albums I'm the most excited to hear these days are often if the instrumental variety? Well I think it mainly says I'm a confirmed, curmudgeonly hip hop get-off-my-lawner, but I'd like to think that it also means there are plenty of talented folks in Canada making that kind of music. Ryan Stinson is one of these talented folks. The Saskatchewan-based producer has [...]

There's a loneliness that dominates Zachary Lucky 's arrangements. Zachary's latest EP, Saskatchewan , offers the contented sadness that develops on days where you are left with nothing to do except watch the odometer turn. Sure, these songs might be a love letter to the province he calls home, but there's more at play here. Lucky uses place names to tell stories of heartache, failure, fears and missed opportunities. Although his portrayals are not as detailed or poetic as John K. Samson's tributes to the people of Winnipeg, the sentiment is the same. Lucky's experiences [...]

Tweet vaso link Once again, I have I Guess I'm Floating to thank for posting new Saskatchewan, though this time the Florida outfit notified me of things themselves on Facebook . The band has repeatedly hit a nerve with their delightfully quirky and oftentimes weird dream pop over the past year. "Cabin Fever," from last September's Skinny Dipping digital 73 is still in heavy rotation, mostly because it's damn near flawless and my ears can't get enough. Before that [...]

Even though folk gets the least amount of attention on Indie Music Filter, there's a special place in my heart for the genre. When I crave a story over an infectious beat, I turn to artists like Zachary Lucky , who has just released an eight song ep titled "Saskatchewan". He feels it paints a picture of Saskatchewan that people haven't seen before. Do yourself a favour and get familiar with him and his province. He's also on the road, making stops in as many small towns in this country as possible. This week, he's in that really [...]

Saskatchewan - Fronting There’s an album brewing in Orlando; in between booked studio time, they squeeze in their sounds, slowly shaping and forming these tracks into what will become Saskatchewan ’s debut full-length album. Fronting is our is our first glance at the evolving bands sound. There is a groove making it’s way in, and will be much more evident going forward. But you can still count on Saskatchewan’s shoegazy soul to guide the music. Updates to follow : soundcloud / bandcamp / facebook

Saskatchewan - Fronting Saskatchewan have always succeeded in crafting simple but elegant songs: form fitted to traditional pop structures but drizzled with eccentricities. "Fronting" is less shoegazy dream-pop than we're used to (it's actually got more 80s new wave in it than ever) but still manages that pop art balancing act well. Saskatchewan's debut LP is almost here, we'll keep you updated. In the meantime, Soundcloud it .
