The new SoCal five-piece Warships set sail about a year ago, after Eric Chirco and Edson Choi — both of the dearly departed Dusty Rhodes & the River Band — teamed up with Satellite Crush's Elliot Craig and Timothy Pai, and John Ransom Tucker. Theirs is an expansive and exuberant take on indie-rock, with big choruses gliding along on scratchy guitar lines and '80s-vintage atmospherics. They have no formal releases as yet (and have only revealed three demos on their website), but melodies like theirs won't stay under wraps for long. Bob your head accordingly. [...]

This is a band out of LA that has this EP out called "Arrows of Eros". They have a cool Athlete-esque feel to their songs, very ear-friendly and very pop-sensible, with some well polished hooks and jams on the EP as well. I think they are just playing limited dates around LA currently as far as I know, but check em out if you get a chance. "Where, where, are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over, And thought I found true love. You met another and Phht! you were gone." – Buck Owens Elliot Craig left for London to form a band and write music. He left the girl he loved in the States. Craig was lonely in the U.K. and hardly scraping by. He wrote songs to his U.S. love and sent them to her. But, alas, [...]
Elliot, the main writer for Satellite Crush moved from Ohio to London after graduating an art school. In London he saved every penny to get by and to write songs. Eventually he decided to move back to the United States to get away from the loneliness that came from living in England, so [...]

After graduating from art school in Ohio, Elliot moved across the Atlantic to London, England with hopes of starting a band. Heavily influenced by British music, and determined to follow this path, he barely made ends meet by bar tending at a nearby pub and busking on the streets. In the extreme loneliness that followed, he spent much of his spare time writing songs in his small studio flat in central London. Having just left the girl with whom he was in love with, naturally she became the subject of many songs to follow. Elliot began playing open [...]

A backwards British Invasion.... After graduating from art school in Ohio, Satellite Crush's Elliot moved across the Atlantic to London, England with hopes of starting a band. Heavily influenced by British music, and determined to follow this path, he barely made ends meet by bar tending at a nearby pub and busking on the streets. Hello! If you're anything like me, you probably hate most things. You might even have publically announced yourself to be opposed to the concept of "people", and declared emotions to be for the weak. But somewhere deep inside that decrepit old husk of a heart, you're probably asking yourself if there's any sweet, sincere, impressively jangly pop music out there, waiting to melt the icy tentacle of cynicism that currently clasps your weary aorta. With that question in mind, I present an answer: the answer is Satellite Crush. More specifically, the answer is this Satellite Crush empeethree, entitled [...]

While it may be January, I've been out driving around with the top down already! Sixty-two degrees here in Atlanta today, and while I'm certain it won't last, it's nice to have the sun on my face and the wind in my hair again. To think that just last week, we were having a snow day- hello global warming! Tracklisting: Daphne Willis - What To Say Emma Pollock - Hug The Harbour [...]

Here is the story of Satellite Crush . After graduating from art school, Elliot Craig, front man for the band, left for London in hopes of starting a band. There he spent many a night writing songs in his small apartment about the girl he had left behind in the states. (The band's name is actually derived from that girl, who he had minimal contact with while in London. A "Satellite Crush") Getting a band together to play these songs turned out to be much harder than thought, so he made his way back to [...]

Hailing out of L.A., Satellite Crush takes its name from a long distance romance on the part of lead singer Elliot, from part of his own history. The group has recently released their debut E.P., entitled Arrows of Eros , which further ties in to their namesake. (Eros, according to a quick check on Wikipedia, was the god of sexual love and beauty.) The sound of Satellite Crush is one that is a breezy sort of Indie/Pop, despite the rather downtrodden [...]

The British Invasion from er...California? YES!
Since the end of the Album a Day and the start of the new year, I've been more lax in my blogging. Whereas in 2009 if I went a day without checking in it was both rare and troublesome. 12 days into this year, I haven't felt the same pressure, for better and for worse. On the one hand, it means I can take more time to give you better reading and music, but it also means I risk getting lazy. And then I realized that if I have music I want to share, I don't need a greater reason [...]

Other than being a group of five Irish musicians in the exciting process of releasing a debut EP this year, Elspeth provide that sparkling air of mystery. Whether intentional seclusion, half-arsed promotion or just work in progress, with no glittery bio to fish from i`m scratching about about finding similar artists or past contemporaries. US Art-Rock meets post-Radiohead Britpop, Shoegaze given a warm loving smile. Elspeth really are quite special, i`ll post more info soon-hopefully returning to my copy/paste comfort zone.
