It was a relaxing and sorry we left y'all hangin, I got a handful of emails asking for new posts! So here to start us off (if you start your weeks on Sundays) is a new album from Saturday Looks Good To Me . I'm actually a new fan, they've been around since 99 and I started diggin' "Lift Me up" when it dropped a couple years ago. If you guys are unfamiliar, SLGTM definitely brings an indie-pop element with writer/producer Fred Thomas (who used to be in His Name is Alive!)arranging with a talented line-up. [...]

Sorry I've been so off and on this week, I'm working on a new redesign that's taking up much of my designated "blogger time". With that being said, here are some things that I'm finding awesome this week. I'm sure most you you have already heard, but it's pretty much standard that I mention when Apple releases new stuff, especially if it's as awesome as new iPod Nanos that are ridiculously tiny and have coverflow. Seeing it now, I think it looks a bit fat, short, [...]

Hey bros and bro-ettes - I'm feeling a little under the weather at the moment so regularly scheduled non-stop Rawking will resume tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy the new unbelievably great Saturday Looks Good To Me song. It sounds like the Fruit Bats jamming with Math and Physics Club . Saturday Looks Good To Me - "Make a Plan": mp3 (Fill Up The Room is out Oct. 23 on K Records ) *** [...]
Last time Paul Anka put out a swing covers album, we sorta went bonkers over it . Ankaman's croon and those horny arrangements reimagining Soundgarden/Oasis/R.E.M./Nirva na/The Cure as swing tunes somehow added up to perfect road-trip music. In fact, you should get it . Last time the tracklist had our demographic in mind, making it easy to appreciate the ironic shmaltz. Second time around, though, it's mostly just schmaltz (Bryan Adams, Daniel Powter, etc.) Still, Paul's new platter isn't without glorious moments of swingin' lipsmacking silliness. Consider his [...]
For acts in their infancy, so to speak, their merch table is what makes or breaks a tour. Buy the shirts and posters and all the cool stuff in front of th...

The announcement of a new album from Saturday Looks Good To Me was very exciting news back when I first heard it back in April. Seriously, i'm in love with this band and I cannot wait to hear this record. Since that time, I hadn't heard anything new about it in months, but thankfully a new stream went up on the band's myspace page of "When I Lose My Eyes" off the upcoming fourth album Fill Up The Room , which is due out here in the US on October 23rd via K Records [...]

I had planned to go home this week, likely very, very soon. You see, I am 4 hours away. I had work. Now I don't. I miss home. Especially when I'm broke. Unfortunately, my primary form of transportation has decided to break. I'm not sure what is wrong, but my Beloved struggles along sounding as if she has become a wheat mill. In honor of Georgia, my car, I present this weeks mixtape: 1 Dr. Dog
Image: www.techeblog.com The Sunday Shuffle is back this week, and this time around I decided to go back to the original idea I had for this feature. Basically, I would choose a bunch of random tracks and post them here for your listening pleasure. I actually like how this turned out as there is a little bit of everything from songs recently released this year to songs from a few years ago. A number of these i've mentioned on the blog before, along with some that I never got around [...]
In a subtly candid interview with this website almost ten months ago, Saturday Looks Good To Me front man Fred Thomas (who was, at that time, the band's only permanent member) threatened a departure from the Motown aesthetic of his first two albums, All Your Summer Songs and Every Night . "Money In The Afterlife," heard here on the thusly named 73 single, makes good on that promise, serving up equal parts Beach Boys , Springsteen , and Robert Pollard , along with some uncharacteristic [...]

Saturday Looks Good To Me Super great awesome pop band Saturday Looks Good To Me announced this past Friday that their new record, Fill Up The Room will be released on September 11th. It will be released by K Records in the U.S. and Popfrenzy in Australia. There should also be a new video on the way sometime soon, too! Man oh man, I cannot wait for this record! No new stuff around yet, so here's one of my favorite SLGTM songs ever, "Meet [...]

On a super sleepy Sunday morning, I procrastinate a little more on packing up my apartment to bring you a few sleep-related songs: Belle & Sebastian - We Are the Sleepyheads The Smiths - Asleep Saturday Looks Good to Me - Can't Ever Sleep Madder Rose - I Wanna Sleep in Your Arms The [...]
..and reading all the rave reviews lately is kind of depressing too. If, like me, you were separated from this life-altering, soul-awakening music fest by nearly 3000 kilometers and a mountain of schoolwork, I have a little something to ease the pain. Here's a rather awesome selection of songs by artists who played at SXSW. Put on your headphones, close your eyes, and pretend you're there, jammed into some tiny club, witnessing music history. It's the next best thing...supposedly. "I Am John" - Loney, Dear "Elephant Gun" - Beirut [...]
Having just come out of the SXSW haze, I realized that tonight is our Saturday Looks Good To Me show! They're playing here in Lexington with Bears, Jason Zavala and Chris Bathgate. I love SLGTM, so it's great to be able to bring them to town. MP3: Saturday Looks Good To ...

Saturday Looks Good To Me Play Spaceland Tonight I checked out Spaceland last night. Dandi Wind was on stage. Wow. That was some outfit and some performance. I'll leave it at that. The Young Knives finally resolved their visa issues and played a show. Unfortunately their energy was (understandably) a little muted. "We've been up for 24 straight hours. Sleep is for losers." They had a good sense of humor (the bass player's name is House of Lords) and were likeable guys. They've got a post-punk, Gang of Four influenced sound. They're headed [...]
I hate long, unwieldy band names but Saturday Looks Good To Me make the kind of playful summer music that forces me to simply accept their god-awful name. In fact, I barely notice the name now. Ever since I was introduced to 2004's Every Night via a mixtape by a former coworker, I've been intrigued by the 60s pop sound that Fred Thomas (the Conor Oberst of SLGTM) creates at a time when far too much music sounds cluttered, over-produced and overly-treated. The girl-group vocals, the Motown production...I love it all. And while [...]
David Karsten Daniels - Sharp Teeth (Fat Cat) (buy it) Hugh at Unfinished turned me on to DKD a while ago. He's got the back-porch vocal curl of early Will Oldham, but with a bit more production and forays into more straightforward indie rock. Stream some DKD at MySpace Dolorean - You Can't Win (Yep Rock) (buy it) Stream the whole album here. A favorite of Laura Gibson's, I've yet to
among the tuesday releases for tomorrow, january 23rd, is the dvd wide release of the puffy chair , a film by the duplass brothers . starring and written by mark and directed by jay, the film is an unflinching, brutally honest take on relationships (romantic and otherwise), from creation to maintenance to--well, i won't spoil it for you. the performances are exquisite, with mark duplass and real-life girlfriend kathryn aselton playing their on-screen counterparts josh and emily, and rhett wilkins playing josh's brother rhett in a turn that can only be described as 'rad'. [...]
