Indie rock icons Say Anything just kicked off their "Rarities & More Tour" last night in Deep Ellum at the legendary venue The Door, and the ecstatic, pumped up energy emulating from a packed house filled with adoring fans made for quite an amazing night. They were complemented wonderfully by Tyler, Texas' sibling-group darlings Eisley, [...]

The end of May brings a welcome break from the barrage of patio brunch and festy pics that signal the arrival of spring on Instagram. According to my calculations, 100% of the people I know attended a graduation ceremony this past weekend, treating us all to rare glimpses into their family life with photos of wide-eyed little brothers and sisters ready to take the world by storm (once they sober up). But when I think of the senior year that set the course for my life, it's not college that comes to mind. It was four years earlier, [...]

However, one major change has occurred that we feel obliged to [...]

I love Christmastime. The cheer, the spirit of giving, the decorations, the friends and family. I also love Christmas music, but I feel like there's a big disparity in quality between old and new Christmas tunes. Let's be real, most of the Christmas records that get released today (and even throughout the past couple of decades, honestly) are pretty bad. New songs don't have the same magic and most covers feel forced or uninspired. Name the first few Christmas songs that pop into your head and I bet not one of them was released since the '80s. Sure, there are plenty of exceptions (and [...]

Photos: Timothy Norris Peter Gabriel was having some fun with fans this weekend at his sold out Hollywood Bowl concert Saturday night. The Grammy Award winning musician and activist had the crowd roaring when he brought John Cusack to the stage to kick off his song, “In Your Eyes.” The song was famously and prominently featured in 80s cult classic film, “Say Anything.” Cusack came out with boom box in hand, reminiscent of his character Lloyd Dobler. In one of the best uses of a song in film history, John Cusack's Lloyd Dobler aims to win back the affection of Ione Skye's Diane Court in 19892s Say Anything by appearing outside of her bedroom window holding a boombox pumping In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel. Last night at the Hollywood Bowl stop of Peter Gabriel's Back To Front So Live Tour, Cusack emerged from the venue's wings during In Your Eyes to present Petey with a boombox to a massive ovation from the crowd. It was a [...]
With songs like "I Was Gonna Marry You", "Second Chance" and "The Rebound", Cedar + Gold (October 2, Capitol), the long overdue and emotionally charged third album from SoCal singer/songwriter Tristan Prettyman , plays out as something of a heartfelt -- and heartbreaking -- diary. "I started writing songs from a place that was so deep and honest, where I didn't hold anything back," she says. "It felt so good. I was like, 'This is what music is about — being able to release what is [...]
