Take Ya Dancin' All The Pretty Ones Say Hi (originally Say Hi To Your Mom) is a band that's been around a while (7 LPs since 2002), but I just learned of them a few months ago from their most recent release, Um, Uh Oh . I've been listening to this album off and on and I've genuinely been enjoying it, but just never got around to posting about it. So here ya go... [...]

So the big race is in less than 48 hours and the nerves are starting to kick in. I'm having a last minute dilemma of what tunes to listen to during the run...I guess it's better than worrying about the actual race. I previously made a mix of some training music that have helped me through the last few months but the other day I put on a mellow playlist and I felt great...zoned out but in the zone. Here are a few of those tracks. [...]

Do you like music? Well this one is a call to action. A temporal mix that hopefully reads more timeless than momentary. A sort of "Music Now!" demand in line with the standout Frightened Rabbit track off their Sings The Greys debut. I always seem to end up with a bunch of late 60s tracks, and the ones on this mix seem to be especially central to the overall gesture. Almost as a challenge to myself after having an argument with a friend on the quality of 80s music, and realizing how few products of the [...]
Getting pretty excited for the show tomorrow at The Media Club. Here is some more Say Hi goodness to get you pumped.
The Southern cookbook is a oft referred to manual for living at SOTS HQ, from grits to gumbo to greens to fried green tomatoes and beyond, we love comfort food. Though I love shellfish, I do still squirm a bit at the idea of sucking the entire head out of a crawfish. Check out our other [...]

As the saying goes, this is clearly not Eric Elbogen's first rodeo.

How about, instead of artists everyone's heard of, let's now focus on bands that you've AT MOST barely heard of, ever. SXSW celebrates an ever-diversifying "line-up", as if you can ever fit over 2,000 bands into a solid line-up, much less posting the info into just one word document w/o a computer crash. I'll post a part 2 of this series VERY soon, so check back in soon. Happy festing! 1. The Black Angels - Telephone [mp3] 2. Charles Bradley - The World [Is Going Up In Flames] [mp3] 3. [...]

Brooklyn via New Orleans band Blair began Monday night's show at Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan, setting the tone with a performance one wouldn't generally expect from an opening act. The sleek and sultry reverb-drenched vocals set against a surprisingly boisterous 3-piece drew the early comers from the downstairs bar to the stage. Blair's sound and stage presence were a fantastic opening to a lineup including Yellow Ostrich , and veteran headliner Say Hi (formerly Say Hi To Your [...]
So pumped to see these guys open for Say Hi in Vancouver. Weeeeee. WHALE by Yellow Ostrich from Big Ugly Yellow Couch on Vimeo .

Tuesday's show at Johnny Brenda's consisted of three bands, two of which we were able to catch (sorry Yellow Ostrich). While the fervor of each lead's style differed, both Blair from Blair and Eric Elbogen from Say Hi controlled the pace of their "solo" bands in a captivating manner. Say Hi For Say Hi shows, the drums are brought to the front and center of the stage. From that spot, Eric Elbogen begins and it's hard to look away. For the [...]
It's busy tour time for some of our favorite local bands and along with The Head and The Heart, Say Hi will be sending us postcards from the road during their six week long tour. Hopefully by the end of it, we'll know the real identity of "Teddy Bear."

I had only heard a handful of songs from Yellow Ostrich before I found out they were opening for Say Hi on some of his latest tour dates. If you had any plans to squeak in the front door before Eric Elbogen takes the stage, you might want to think again. Tweet First things first - vocal comparisons to Win Butler are inevitable, but in his defense, Seattle's Eric Elbogen aka Say Hi, has been around for ten years. Off his recent release Um, Uh Oh , "Take Ya Dancin" is pretty much like putting The Strokes, Arcade Fire, and a bunch of ice in a blender - smooth, diluted, and extra catchy. If you want a break from still trying to "figure out" King of Thieves this weekend, just dance around in your [...]
