To push my non-remix strike to two posts (even though I have a remix of this song) I have just finally gotten around to listening to Mr. Sebastian Tellier . Originally dismissed as another singer/songwriter in the vein of Bonnie Prince Billy or Mr. Stevens and then commonly confused with the disco/electronic/dance outfit named SebastiAn I unduly slept on Mr. Tellier's album Sessions . Finally getting the opportunity I listened to "La Ritournelle" and was floored. Mp3: Sebastian Tellier - "La Ritournelle" [...]

J im Noir is one elusive cat. He was recently signed to Barsuk and had all kinds of over exposure for his song Eanie Meany during the World Cup games thanks to the folks at Nike. Tomorrow 8August his album Tower of Love is set for official US release. Already out in the UK since February, the album is a mix of all things bright and cheery. And somehow this is from a guy who [...]

Okay, there is just entirely too much stuff sitting in my inbox and I hate that. I can't stand it when I fall behind on emails and things linger. So I'm taking care of this now. Consider this post a mini-mix of the good stuff I've been emailed over the past few weeks. I hope you'll check some of these bands out. And if you have sent me something, or plan to, and you don't hear back from me right away, I hope that doesn't hurt your feelings. I realize I have an email laziness problem and I'm taking steps [...]

Jim Noir, a singer-songwriter which style of music has garnered one of those neato music descriptors - psychedelic pop, is best known for his song being included in Nike’s Jose + 10 commercial that ran during the World Cup. Noir’s video for said song, Eanie Meanie, is up on his site and continues the mythos of the soccer ball song that dares you not to bounce around as you listen. Noir’s music is a dapper as his dress. Jim Noir [...]
Apparat has a new album out - four tracks, 48 minutes, entitled Live at Burn & Consume. It is damn fine IDM goodness, and apparently only available via online music services. Apparat - Granular Bastard Heard this track by The...
We would like to introduce you to Sebastien Tellier . When we kicked back, threw on the headphones, and listened to this artist we thought "Plump globes of oscelating sense and prudence." What did you think? Use a tag or comment to share your thoughts with everyone. Enjoy. Genre: Rock-Pop-Folk Label: Record Makers Source: Pocket|Trax Language: [...]

[MP3] Psychic Ills - Another Day, Another Night Probably without knowing it, Psychic Ills have become the savior or modern psychedelic music. They grace the limits of atmospheric soundscapes, folk, rock & roll, and garage-psych all at once with an encompassing clutch. “Another Day, Another Night†comes from their debut full length Dins. It’s a spaced out jam with echoing, indecipherably layered vocals over a rolling drum rhythm, occasional twinkles of xylophone and a nervous guitar line; a subtle and waning fury. This track is a slow burn epic, culminating in hi hat crashes, an [...]

Fallen in love this week with perpetrators of the J Davey kind. Can't find the album here in Bucharest, don't have a credit card to PayPal myself through ebay, but wherever it is I'll hunt it down. Meanwhile soul-electro-clashsters do have a myspace (a tab is permanently open in my browser - the J Davey tab as it's going down for posterity) and a site all of their own where you can stream music. Unfortunately no downloads. If you don't have time [...]

File this one under ‘new to me.' Sébastien Tellier is a French soloist who has opened for Air, the Magic Numbers, Moby and Royksöpp. His album Politics , dropped way back in 2004, but sometimes (most of the time) I’m a little behind the curve. Tellier makes colorful popish songs with layers of solid arrangement. He puts together an engaging sound and runs the gamut of instrument selection including the sci-fi Theremin. see Blue time- [...]

Everyday I wake up and do my lunch-time perusing of all the tracks pulled from the blogs by Hype Machine . It's usually like playing musical russian roulette. The good to bad song ratio is usually greater than 10:1. More often than not the two good songs on any given playlist are spaced a good distance apart from each other in the list. However, yesterday's golden find was the very first on this list. The song is Sebastien Tellier's "La Ritournelle" from his 2004 LP Politics which was [...]
The original version of La Ritournelle (which is French, bien sur, for "The Ritournelle") was on Sébastien Tellier's Politics , released in 2004. It tricks you into thinking it's an instrumental track - a good one - and then after four minutes, the vocals appear, along with the light funk. It's worth the wait, and the wait is worth it. Sébastien Tellier - La Ritournelle (Original Edit)(mp3) I recently professed my admiration for [...]
