Most times you see or hear a band perform a cover song and it is pretty direct and to the point. This is not the case with Shields as they took SBTRKT's 'Pharaohs' and created a truly unique version of the song. The video shows off the band performing in their own makeshift masks in homage to SBTRKT. Look for the cover song to be featured on Shields upcoming EP Kaleidoscope , on November 19th.

Last month, EMI Music launched their Electrospective celebration. The mega-media event stretches across the Internet, radio, and merchandising to look back at the history of electronic music from 1958 to the present. Digging into the EMI, Mute, and Virgin music catalogs, Electrospective features work by everyone from Kraftwerk and Brian Eno, to Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys, to LCD Soundsystem and Swedish House Mafia. Now, Consequence of Sound is giving you a chance to dive into the history along with EMI. We're giving away a massive prize pack to one lucky [...]
Shields - “Pharaohs (SBTRKT cover)”
Hal Williams and Matt Martians, who together form the Jet Age of Tomorrow , have been keeping busy with their respective side projects this past year or so. Martians and his Odd Future cohort, Syd the Kyd , have been touring and recording as the Internet while Williams has given his Pyramid Vritra output a good solid push. But (sometime soon, I hope) they are gearing up to release their new album as the Jet Age of Tomorrow. It's called Jellyfish Mentality —awesome title—and it's got a crazy cast of features. Seriously, [...]

Geometric is a project that’s landed in our inbox all the way from an LA based duo via. the soundcloud alias ‘Druley’ . Their track ‘Touch Me’ has caught our attention. It’s a minimal number with a high pitched vocal sample and 2 step garage beat. Nice, chilled vibes that remind us of the wonderful SBTRKT . Check out a preview below.

![[Festival Review] Treasure Island Music Festival, San Francisco](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4584914_lg.jpg)
Treasure Island Music Festival has long touted itself as an intimate and authentic experience in San Francisco music and culture. Attendees are rewarded well in advance with a promise from the event's coordinators that the eclectic lineup will be devoid of all scheduling conflicts between the festivals two main stages, both adjacent to the city's bay shoreline. Therefore, eliminating any potential for those tough decisions while budgeting your time between favorite bands, food trucks, a silent disco and all other festival amenities one could hope for. With that being said, the two-day fall music and culture getaway was [...]

Roses Gabor is the latest talented female vocalist to step out from the shadows of UK dance music to forge a solo career. Having worked with the likes of SBTRKT (most notably on " Pharaohs "), Redlight, Shy FX, Jakwob and more, she's soon to release her debut single "Stars," a melancholy tinged track that keeps the listener off balance with pitch shifted vocals and off-beat drum programming. Listen to this experimental slice of late night music, and watch the suitably bizarre video below. "Stars" is out November 12th on Sheffield badman Toddla T's label [...]
![Treasure Island Music Festival Day 1 [Full Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4565356_lg.jpg)
Toro y Moi If you have never attended a music festival, Treasure Island in San Francisco would be a worthy introduction. Unlike Coachella or Outside Lands, TI has an intimate factor unlike most, but carries a lineup to compete with the best. Additionally, you would be a part of a festival which has been planned extremely well, with impressive attention to detail and a sense that the folks who put this event together truly care about the festival goers' overall experience. I was lucky enough to witness this year's Saturday line up of thirteen acts, who [...]

Amongst well received wonky, electro-synthpop debuts this year from artists like Purity Ring, come two entirely different debuts that appropriately make you wonder just what the hell went wrong with all your love troubles. Jessie Ware's Devotion and Lianne La Havas' Is Your Love Not Big Enough? are new releases that have been nominated for the UK's prestigious Mercury Prize this year, and rightfully so. Imagine if Rihanna took a reality slap to the face and got some dignity shoved into her, couple the gorgeous singing with perfectly [...]

Production duo What So Not have been making waves lately and I think they're long overdue for an Introducing, don't you? Hailing from Sydney, Australia, these two broke into the mainstream with their remix of Major Lazer's Get Free; one that impressed Mad Decent so much that they decided to release it as a limited 123 vinyl. Since then, these two have been busy touring Australia and New Zealand, while putting out a slew of impressive remixes at the same time. Pin-pointing their sound is difficult for me to do, but I can tell you that it's bass-driven, [...]

SBTRKT @ Terminal 5 SBTRKT brought his tour to NYC last night (10/11) for his largest headlining gig here yet at Terminal 5 with Kilo Kish (who also has upcoming CMJ shows ), Nick Hook , and Koreless . SBTRKT (whose live lineup includes main member Aaron Jerome and vocalist Sampha) were joined by a string quartet for a few songs and the stage was set up with two enlarged versions of the masks that SBTRKT wears. They played a good [...]
This Sunday at Club Nokia, Aaron Jerome will don a tribal mask and adopt his alter ego SBTRKT (pronounced “subtract”). Avoiding classification and pigeonholing as an electronic music producer is not an easy feat in the current state of the ... Continued

I don't know about you, but back in early July I was in a state beyond euphoria as I was informed of the highly anticipated first lineup announcement for the 2012/2013 Falls Music and Arts Festival . Bearing the knowledge that certain bands and artists' presence would be closing 2012 and opening 2013 in a beautiful, natural amphitheater had me ready to buy tickets from the get go. I'm talking The Flaming Lips , Beach House , SBTRKT and Best Coast - just to name a few. [...]
