It's summer time! Officially. Finally. And that means it's time to see some outdoor shows, some bands from your youth, and maybe even see one of the worst concept tours I can possibly imagine. Thursday, June 21 Van Hunt with Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist at The Independent You never know what you're going to hear [...]

Photo by Jimmy FontaineThis week, 5ingles explores songs that boast connections to mental illness. None of these are quite as stupendous as Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized" or Gnarls Barkley's

There's a lot to get excited about this week. Choir of Young Believers has already gotten a bunch of good buzz, a new record from Counting Crows came as a complete surprise, and MoMA's Kraftwerk box set is sure to please a lot of people who couldn't get tickets to their New York shows. And that's not enough beginning to scratch the surface. There's also plenty of reissues from Opeth , long-awaited self-titled albums from Scars on 45 and Lissy Trullie , and a new record from Black Francis [...]
Much buzzed British indie popsters Scars on 45 dish up a big, decadent slice of Fleetwood Mac-ish SoCal folk/rock jangle on their April 10 eponymous U.S. debut, a rose-tinted, bell-bottomed retro celebration of gargantuan melodies, precision harmonies and plush sonic production. Trading off the male/female vocals of Danny Bemrose and Aimee Driver, lead track "Heart on Fire" even has one of those great nebulous late 70's song titles and the kind of sensitive, catchy acousticism tailor-made for entry into Grey's Anatomy soundtrack territory (the band is even signed to Chop Shop, [...]
The Fox Theater. Scars on 45. The Fray, live. A crowd that actually applauds with their hands more than with their voices. These are things that, until Monday night, I'd never before experienced. And all were, as it turned out, the beginning of a wonderful cure for a stereotypical "case of the Mondays." Though I've [...]
VH1's January You Oughta Know Artist's First Headlining Tour.

February is right around the corner, which means Scars On 45 are set to stroll through Minneapolis! This buzzin’ band from Yorkshire will be hanging out on Thursday, February 2 at the Varsity Theater with the talented Anya Marina . I recently had a pleasant chat with lead singer Danny Bemrose about tour, days off, and Breaking Bad. His thoughts are below. You’re kicking off a brand new tour on January 25 in San Francisco. What are you most excited about at the start of a tour? What are [...]
The video for Scars On 45's "Heart On Fire" is about more than just eye candy--but it sure doesn't hurt.
'Heart on Fire' caught me by surprise. I was scanning SiriusXM when I settled on The Spectrum . When I heard 'Heart on Fire' I thought it was a very strong alt-pop single, and I enjoyed it. It was only later that I discovered the track was featured on Grey's Anatomy , a show I do not watch. Anyhow, 'Heart on Fire' by Scars on 45 is respectable. Watch the video below:
The new video from Scars on 45 has the band is a burnt out building with firemen rushing in. You can check out the "Heart on Fire" video above. Is the burning building too literal? Maybe.

The up-and-coming UK alt-rockers stopped by the Rockwood Music Hall last week and gave NYC a taste of their heartfelt, warm Brit -rock.

Latest from the much buzzed British indie popsters Scars on 45 is a big, decadent slice of Fleetwood Mac-ish SoCal folk/rock jangle. Trading off the male/female vocals of Danny Bemrose and Aimee Driver, "Heart on Fire" even has one of those great nebulous late 70's song titles. "We're not under any kind of illusion that we're doing anything that's groundbreaking," says Bemrose with some refreshing honesty. Following up the quintet's 2011 Give Me Something EP (and semi-hit title track), a new EP Heart On Fire will arrive soon with a [...]

That's his video for "The World (Is Going Up in Flames)," above. Some background . ► Old 972s frontman Rhett Miller does a show at the Autry Museum, with L.A.'s Robert Francis resurfacing to [...]

I have neglected this blog. Oops. Life has gotten in the way. Work, dating, the beach… did I say dating? Yeah, that hasn’t gone so well. Not worst-date-ever material (yet), but guys, here’s a pointer: don’t take a girl to Shakey’s and expect a second date. Now that we have that out of the way. Friday night, Becca and I made a field trip to LA for what we thought was going to be a quick 30 minute set by my girl crush, Meiko . It turns out the [...]
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive , New Music Atlantic Scars on 45 didn't follow a typical route to rock 'n' roll success. Singer Danny Bemrose had been playing professional soccer for England's Huddersfield Town F.C. when he broke his foot at 21 years old, the prime of his career. The injury proved to have lasting effects, so Bemrose went back to his love of music and formed an indie-pop group. Their first [...]

Theophilus London @ Mohawk Theophilus London packed the downstairs room of the Mohawk as part of the Mog/Lexus Party. Theo did an A+ job at engaging not only a kinetic swath of fans but a room, perhaps not so familiar with his music. "Flying Overseas", "Why Even Try", "Strange Love", all the best examples of his unique Electro Hip Hop, hyped the crowd. His brief 30 minute set flew by, with multiple instances of girls-in-attendance brought on stage, numerous hilarious back-and-forths with the audience, and a few indie celeb-in-the-crowd shouts (TVOTR's Dave Sitek, for one). [...]

[And the final installment from Friday night at SXSW ...] The Baseball Project (Momo's) — Since your humble correspondent has been known to do this on weekends , it seemed almost mandatory to check out the Baseball Project, a band of respected veterans who've combined to make two albums of songs about the national pastime. My, was this fun. Boasting a lineup of Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn [...]
