For many people, 2012 arrives with much uncertainty. But one thing we can pretty much always look forward to is music. There will be great music that gets a lot of buzz, and other terrific music that, for the most part, flies under the radar. There will be the predictable hype of new albums by [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

If you haven't been downright impressed with the overflow of incredible genre crossing music this year you are either a huge Nickleback fan or you are Amish, there's no other logical excuse to complain about the status of music. Last year when I put the "Best Albums" list together it was one of the first [...]
Earlier this year, our reluctant correspondent named SafariMan, had the pleasure of taking in the record release party for Scattered Trees. Quoth the SafariMan "I was at the record release party and my girlfriend tripped and bowled over some amorous lesbians ... and that wasn't even the best thing I saw that night ... it was Scattered Trees." I am glad that SafariMan kept his eye on the prize. At some point during the evening, he sent me a drunken text message while I was watching a Jennifer Aniston rom-com with the wife that said, "Scattered Trees are [...]
Chicago indie poppers Scattered Trees visited local PBS program "Live at the Alley" to play "Four Days Straight" and "A Conversation" from its album Sympathy . Lead singer Nate Eiesland also spoke with show host Marc Nelson; discussing how Scattered Trees started, what it is like for Eiesland to work with his wife and fellow bandmate Alissa, and how songwriting helped him deal with his father's death. The video clip is just over 15 minutes, so it's a bit of a commitment, but it's worth it. Catch Scattered Trees next at [...]

Chicago indie-rock group Scattered Trees are playing Lincoln Hall next Friday with local band A Lull , and we've got your tickets. The members of Scattered Trees grew up together in the outskirts of Chicago, and soon became a staple of the city's clubs and venues, releasing their debut album in 2006. Over time, it's members moved on, and the band fell to the wayside, separating in 2007. It wasn't until 2009, when lead singer, Nate Eisland, picked up his guitar and began writing what would become [...]

It has been a great year for Scattered Trees , and now they are returning home from their second nationwide tour. This year the band saw the release of their debut album Sympathy through Roll Call Records , recorded a Daytrotter session , had their video for the track "Sympathy" premired on Mtv Hive, and recently appeared on the PBS show Live at the Alley . Below is that appearance and a remix of their track "Four Days Straight" by Barbaric Merits. Scattered Trees will be performing at Lincoln Hall [...]

When was the last time a band put joy in your heart? When it's been a while, you start to get that creeping feeling of desperate necessity, clamoring for basslines thumping through your blood. Go too long without it, and you risk losing it entirely. Don't fret, though, just go see Scattered Trees . They begin with what may be the world's longest soundcheck – tweaking at the various instruments for what seems like an inordinate amount of time. Turns out this extended bout of tinkering was completely warranted. From the start, they sound incredible. [...]

If I had to-and I mean, had to-pick one Season as my favorite, it'd be Fall. Why, you ask? Well, why not? The foliage, the fashion, the faint and freckled ending of a Summer filled with love... I know it sounds silly now, but a long walk on the beach would pale in comparison to a tree-lined street, so forget about showing off your ridiculous tan-line and put some warmer clothes on. Let's share this moment of clarity as we finally take our sunglasses off. Yes, it's the end of impulsiveness and the beginning [...]
Today is all about Chicago's Scattered Trees. They're a five piece who have been making music together for about six years, in one guise or another. I first appreciated them on account of the superb video for their song ' Love And Leave '. It is the kind of video that looks like it was amazing fun to make. I then got an email telling me that they'd just recorded a session for Daytrotter . I wasn't aware of this pretty awesome website [...]

Nothing's going to make any of this better. There have been lies spoken. People have been misled into [...]

Illustration by Johnnie Cluney Indie rockers Scattered Trees are the latest Chicago group to record a set for the live music website Daytrotter . The quintet appeared in top form as it performed four tracks from its 2011 album Sympathy . The beautiful, sometimes-acoustic tracks such as "Where You Came From" and the full-band number "Love and Leave" express a profound sadness that bleeds into the music and lyrics. This makes sense when you realize frontman Nate Eiesland wrote Sympathy to honor [...]
