ON AN ON may be a new name on the scene - the indie-rock trio only just formed in August 2012 - but its members are no newcomers. Alissa Ricci (keyboardist and the band's only girl), Nate Eiesland and Ryne Estwing - along with Jason and Baron Harper - were already collaborating in Chicago-based indie-pop band Scattered Trees . In fact, we introduced them long ago, back in 2010. After ten years and three albums as Scattered Trees, the Harper brothers decided to leave the band in August of last year. The three [...]
The remaining three members of indie band Scattered Trees found themselves with booked studio time and no band. Or at least, a diminished one. Two members of the five had split and Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci, and Ryne Estwing had to decide what to do when they got in the studio with Broken Social Scene producer Dave Newfeld. As bleak as it may sound– a skeleton crew of a once lauded band trying to pull something together in three weeks– what surfaced is yet another reason why we’re hardwired to chase second chances. ON AN [...]

Once members of successful pop-rock group Scattered Trees , ON AN ON has changed direction and dropped the poppin' but stuck with the rockin'. With their debut release Give In , ON AN ON brings us a dose of synth mixed with the occasional distorted guitar for a fresh indie sound that grabs my ears and doesn't let go. Check out a stream of the album in its entirety below. SUPPORT THE ARTIST
Give In to On An On, this album is so amazing you'll thank us in the morning.

It's always difficult to show your face in public immediately after a green dye job. New Music Monday returns to its regularly scheduled day this week, after a sojourn to Tuesday last time around , and just in the nick of time! Because, well, today is in fact Monday... And this week's new music is indeed very new - the album isn't actually due for release until tomorrow, Jan. 29. It's the debut LP (if you'll grant me a little poetic leeway here) from a band called On An On [...]

"The Hunter" is the latest to come from ON AND ON , a Chicago/Minneapolis-based trio born from the ashes of the now-defunct Scattered Trees . A follow-up to the group's mesmerizing debut track, "Ghosts," the group's second effort is an anthemic synth and percussion onslaught perfected at the hands of producer Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Los Campesinos!). You'll be able to find "The Hunter" and "Ghosts" on ON AND ON's debut LP, Give In , out January 29th, 2013 via Roll Call . STREAM: ON [...]

As a follow-up to our Song of the Week not too long ago, the disbanded group once known as Scattered Trees just up and formed a new group called ON AN ON (Yes, all capital letters to set the record straight). They’ve since dropped a proverbial bomb, which in turn caused us to switch around our year-end lists to make things a bit more interesting. This track is that good. The video itself lends itself to the older times of manufacturing computer parts, perhaps for rocket ships, rockets or just plain ol’ computers. [...]
This song just absolutely blows my mind. ON AN ON have attached to it a weird montage/video collage documenting the history of space exploration? I, for one, want to see the three band members (formerly of Scattered Trees ) play music. Maybe in the next video. Their debut album, Give In , comes out January 29th, 2013, on Roll Call Records.

Music bloggers aren't music journalists, anyone that calls us such is being a little unfair on all those real critics, with their professional qualifications and, well, you know, paid jobs and all that. We don't want to belittle our plucky bloggers, as from our humble positions we've still managed to carve out our own corners, establishing ourselves as influential voices from the lowly position of an amateur, purely out of passion and a bit of hard work. One vent often aimed at bloggers is that we don't properly research our subjects, with some blogs only placing one or two lines [...]

No, that's not a typo. Roll Call Records just released On An On 's first single "Ghosts" from the remains of a broken-up Scattered Trees. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, On An On are set to release their forthcoming 2013 album titled Give In . While we're plagued with some bad sound quality midway through the track, our mouse is ready to buy this entire album on a whim. On An On combine some of our favorite elements: Vocals like that of Steve Schiltz' Hurricane Bells , melodies looped [...]

Newly-formed indie group ON AN ON are pleased to unleash "Ghosts," the first song off their forthcoming debut album, Give In , which is due out January 29 on Roll Call Records. Consequence of Sound declared that this first track " has all the textures we can expect from this new outfit, haunted yet exquisitely exposed...strewn with scattered electronics and hazy atmospheres. " ON AN ON is scheduled to hit the road in September, supporting Reptar and Rubblebucket. Tour dates are below. The sound marks a new direction for ON AN ON's three members [...]

I love this. Here's newly-formed band ON AN ON with the song "Ghosts," the first song off their forthcoming debut album, Give In , which is due out January 29 on Roll Call Records. The band is Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci and Ryne Estwing, who had been performing together for the last few years with the indie group Scattered Trees . It was only this past March during the annual SXSW festival that they decided to follow their instincts and change course to form ON AN ON . With the help of producer Dave [...]
Somehow I slept on this song by Scattered Trees for a year even though it was released on Lexington label Soul Step Records. Additionally, my timing couldn't be worse since Scattered Trees just broke up. Youch. Still, that shouldn't stop you from enjoying this powerful pop-rock track in the vein of Mutemath

The story of ON AN ON is only a few months old. Earlier this year, brothers Jason and Baron Harper informed their bandmates in Scattered Trees that they would be departing the group. Hard as it was to see their friends go, remaining members Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci, and Ryne Estwing were now left in a bit of a bind: studio time had already been booked to record the followup to Scattered Trees' Sympathy . Should the trio carry on with the name and find some new players? Or would [...]

Something about a great guitar song will never go out of style. "Cruel Love" has some of those feel good vibes that can only come from a song that means anything other than feeling good. PKST (Petty, Kweller, Schwartzmans, Traster, ___ ) come on let's get this crew together. Ryan Traster will play his 73 release party for "Cruel Love" on July 28th in Minneapolis, MN along with Scattered Trees. Be there. Ryan Traster - Cruel Love Ryan [...]
