The Scenics are a Toronto based Proto-Punk band that originally formed in 1976 and split up in 1982. Formed by Ken Badger and Andy Meyers who also served as the principle song writers, The Scenics were different from others in the Canadian Punk scene at the time. Longtime reader Ramesh sent this in a while back & I owe him a huge apology for not posting it sooner...it's for his old band, The Scenics. A part of the little celebrated Toronto punk scene of the late 70's - even less celebrated than Vancouver! The Scenics, were together from 1976-82, and have since reunited in 2008. The kind folks down under, Future Classic, gave away probably the pick the bunch when it comes to free tracks over Christmas with the Magician's effortlessly happy remix of Scenic's 'Another Sky'. You can certainly tell that Australia are in the middle of there Summer. Lucky sods. We're not bitter, but we haven't seen the sun for a week now - and we're starting to worry.

We had the cover of Zig Zag's Voyage Voyage last week. Here's another cover which really is of a classic - Air's Kelly Watch The Stars. From Moon Safari, this is a beautiful track, so well-known that any cover would have to take it in a different direction or risk sounding a pale imitation. Perth band Scenic take on that significiant challenge. The music is slightly less laid back than the original and reaches more strongly for cosmic disco. Nothing really different. These guys hail from Perth and just released their EP 'Another Sky' on Future Classic . Everything about this one relaxes you, puts you to ease, takes whatever burden is on your shoulders off. A cover that exceeds the bar.
