OK, so I did not list the date in the blog post title because, heh, this show happened a little bit ago. Oops. But hey, that happens. Sometimes I work 60-70 hours during the week and bloggin' takes a back seat, at least until The Decibel Tolls can yell "fuck you pay me" at the Internet. One day. Anyway, this was another fine rock and roll extravaganza from the good doctors at Shark Productions. Bloomington's Stagnant Pools , a recent Polyvynyl acquisition, opened up the show. This was my first experience seeing the duo, and I [...]

I have to admit this isn't a combination I expected to enjoy. But, one should never judge as School of Seven Bells ' contribution to Civil Twilight 's remix EP turns out to be pretty fantastic. Stream below:
The Polyphonic Spree just released its first holiday album Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Volume One on Good Records Recordings and Kirtland Records. The album includes ten standards, two original instrumentals, and a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's classic "Happy X-Mas (War is Over)." The Polyphonic Spree Holiday Show rolls in to the ... Watch Civil Twilight / Ra Ra Riot's "River" Remix Video on YouTube Though Civil Twilight has quite a bit to brag about, including having been on tour with MUTEMATH over the past couple months and recently exceeding the 100k Facebook fan mark, this may still be a first introduction for many of you. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, the band is now based in Nashville after having recorded in various locations between London, NYC and New Jersey. Back in March, Civil Twilight released its sophomore [...]

Fil’in en büyük şanssızlığı yanlış zamanda yanlış yerde doğmasıydı.

Bryan Sheffield If you thought you heard the sound of dense, nimble percussion, shimmering guitars, and intricate harmonies coming from the vicinity of New York on Wednesday night, you weren't hearing things. That was the sound of Los Angeles' Local Natives making their live return at The Bowery Ballroom as part of CMJ, a performance announced only a couple days prior. The show was their first this calendar year, and they used the opportunity to preview material from the follow-up to their 2009 breakout debut Gorilla Manor , video [...]

" Put Your Sad Down is the mantra we’re carrying with us into the New Year," says School of Seven Bells guitarist Benjamin Curtis. The new EP was initially meant to include "early versions" of Ghostory cuts, but after a recording session that was "the most fun Alley and I have had making music in a long time," four new songs and a Silver Apples cover became the focus of the release. We don't have any audio to share yet, but you can gawk at the tracklist and the [...]

Day two continued with excellent sets from all three of the above mentioned bands. Zola "Nika" Jesus' vocals were pretty incredible, extremely polished live sound, the natural elements blended extremely well with her programming. Patrick Wolf went all acoustic, playing a harp and ukulele, again showcasing his vocals, which were in rare form in the church converted into a venue for his set. I had assumed School of Seven Bells were pretty overrated, but I figured they're right in front of me, and I'd give them another shot. I'm not that familiar with much of their music, but clearly they [...]

Random encounters of the festival kind from the fourth evening of Filter magazine’s Culture Collide in Echo Park: Highlight of the night Although this year’s Red Bull Soundstage seemed as if it had shrunk since last year’s block party, the Wombats played their set as if they were headlining a large amphitheater. The U.K. trio brought a sense of humor, rampant energy and batch of sharp songs like “Jump Into the Frog” to a crowd that grew thicker by the minute in Taix’s parking lot. (This was impressive since it seemingly thinned [...]
