2012 was an absolutely stellar year for rap music no matter how you slice it. Seemingly out of nowhere the variety and talent within the genre exploded, and it didn’t seem to be specific to any particular sub-genre or geographic region. I usually tend to favor hip hop that comes out of the NYC area, and it’s no surprise that the area is well represented on my list. Well this was unexpected. Over two years after he released the song with his Long Term 2 mixtape, Ab-Soul gives "Pass the Blunt" the visual treatment. This ScHoolboy Q-assisted track is a tripped-out combination of sparkles and smoke, and has a cartoon-like feel to it. It's definitely not meant for kids, though, with the impossible-to-ignore omnipresence of ganja. Check it out below:

Schoolboy Q has a very distinct style; I've never heard anyone like him. He's got a very nice and jumbled flow: he doesn't necessarily follow the beat exactly but it still sounds smooth.
