So, I'm sitting in the DJ Lounge at WKNC, looking at the Tetris machine, our two cornhole boards and a poster for the film 2012 with a post-it of 'Hillary Clinton' and I am just reminded how misanthropic I am. Anyways, here's the upcoming giveaways for We.Know.North.Carolina. Alela Diane : June 20th @ Kings Barcade Ben Sollee with Thousands : June 2th @ Cat's Cradle Jon Lindsay w/ Reid Johson (of [...]

We're very excited to announce our involvement in the second annual Northside Festival , a four-day celebration of all the sweet sights and sounds brewing around the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. Headed by the always excellent L Magazine , this year's festival promises to build on 2009's success, and as savvy veterans of last year's inaugural installment , we here at EAR FARM also pledge to keep the good times going this year. As such, we're once again taking over Spike Hill , perhaps the most centrally located venue in the whole darn neighborhood, [...]

More new songs from Carrboro, NC's Schooner . You'll know them from the recently released Duck Kee Sessions and these new songs are part of a larger full-length. More rockabilly in these I think, or I just can't make up my mind. Stream these below or download them from the VR Presents website . Sweet.

... and continuing with the free downloads, Schooner now has four songs available for download on the VR Presents blog. Check it out here!
For a couple of years now, and especially since the release of three EPs last year, Portland,... Check out Indie Rock Cafe for more songs, artist and band profiles, playlists and videos.

Hailing from Carrboro, North Carolina, Schooner is a four-member band currently comprised of Reid Johnson (whose sister, Kathryn, played and recorded on all of the band's material until recently), Billy Alphin (The Ashley Stove, The Rosebuds), Maria Albani (Organos, Pleasant), and Chris Badger (Hotel Lights). Together they create an understated, disheveled pop sound that ranges from narcotic sad-eyed tunes to erratic rock numbers highlighted by boy-girl harmonies and impressionist lyrics. Schooner has released two full-length albums, You Forget About Your Heart , and Hold on Too Tight , along with [...]

Schooner Duck Kee Sessions Schooner has released "Duck Kee Sessions" on cytunes.org , which means it's download-only, but when you download it, the proceeds of your $5 goes to cancer research. This charitable aspect presents you with the perfect opportunity to discover Schooner if you're not aware of them already: it's only five bucks, and it's a charitable donation, so if you end up not liking the album, it's a tax write-off anyway. But if you don't like Schooner, then there's [...]

Schooner: "Feel Better" I know there are a lot of bands playing SXSW and better places to find info on it. But Schooner just sent their dates over for the next week and I feel like posting it. March 15: Parkside Cafe in Birmingham, AL March 16: Red Star Bar in Baton Rouge, LA w/ Love Language, Birds and Arrows [...]
North Carolina indie-folksters Schooner have just released their latest EP Duck Kee Sessions exclusively on CyTunes.org, a music downloading site where 100% of the proceeds go to cancer research. The quartet also enlisted the help of some local artists to create the album artwork for EP, and you can check out all 14 unique [...]

Schooner Duck Kee Sessions CyTunes , 2010 Schooner: "Feel Better" Schooner is haunting my thoughts, it's got this distant reverb in the vocals, like that Jens Lekman character. Though nothing of Schooner is really haunting--instead it is classic, jangly folk rock, non-cheesy 60s surf with these clear melodies. "Feel Better" is the standout, though "Lose Yourself" is a close second, with its little twangish pull in there. Schooner is [...]

OMG! Run, get milk and bread and water. Wear your battery-powered heated socks and thermal underwear, because central heating just won't do the trick... it's snowing in Georgia. I grew up in the midwest- spent most of my childhood in Michigan, where snow drifts got to be twice or trice my height (often leading to opportunistic sledding), so the dusting of snow that the weather service has threatened Atlanta with today bears little consequence for me. But, for those of you NOT aware of Atlanta traditions, if the weather is at all wintry, Atlantans MUST go out and clear the [...]

Lots of highly-anticipated albums this week, though, none that I'm too entirely excited about; with the likes of Hot Chip , Yeasayer leading the pack of new releases. I've listened to both albums, and while I like the singles from the two, the albums as a whole don't really work for me. In regards to Hot Chip , the group seems to forgo any kind of dance tracks this time around in favor of focusing on songwriting. The results are a bit hit or miss, but the title track is definitely great. [...]
A lot of great music has come across our desktop lately from the always vocal community down in North Carolina. The latest is Duck Kee Nights, the forthcoming EP from Schooner (out Feb. 19th). In listening to the music I'm somehow reminded of the great Magnetic Fields. Now, Schooner doesn't have anywhere near the humour of Stephin Merritt and company. What they do share with is an ability to
And we thought last week's was good ! Once again, we've pieced together a mix of the week's best new singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from some up-and-comers you just might want to check out. Once again, the end result proved pretty epic! What are you waiting for? Scroll! Scroll! Scroll!
