Scissormen document their psychedelic blues on CD and DVD.
While we're not great ones for themed mixes on MM, Halloween is one of the exceptions we like to make. Here is a perfect mix for whatever ghoulish event you've got lined up today! Fifteen corking tunes, from the skewed new wave pop of XTC and off-kilter indie of the Mountain Goats to the trashy surf rock of The Cramps and from the folk-stomp of the Men They Couldn't Hang and the gothic drive of Ghost Dance to the pounding blues rock of the Scissormen and 22-20s . Enjoy. [...]

Interview Via Triggerman at the always terrific Saving Country Music After a one year hiatus, the legendary Deep Blues Festival will be re-emerging this year on July 16th in Cleveland, OH. Deep Blues ran for three years under the vision of Chris Johnson up in Minnesota, but because of financial concerns, had to be discontinued last year. This year the torch has been picked up by Jim Chilson of [...]
The Scissormen make the blues feel red hot.The Nashville duo, fronted by guitarist Ted Drozdowski, is a Molotov cocktail of sound, taking a stripped-down setup to innovative heights both on record and in the live setting. The players claim three albums, international tours, and a performance at Bonnaroo 2008 to their credit. The Scissormen will soon be the subject of a new film by Robert Mugge,

The blood on Ted's face? Bad conversation with a ceiling fan while walking the bar in St.Paul. Did that stop him? No. It did not. He continued to the sidewalk and back to the stage and into the bathroom to get cleaned up a bit...and never once stopped playing. That's how it's done, kids! [...]
"Our first video, shot on zeeeero budget and filmed off the cuff and edited by a couple friends. It's the earlier, faster Jinx Breakers version of our song Tupelo, inspired by John Lee Hooker. In 2006 it was my great pleasure to write the liner n...otes for the "Hooker" box set: 5500 words on Johnny Lee, who I was lucky enough to speak with several times." - Ted Drozdowski , Guitarist , Scissormen
Lately Sweden has seen a flood of rappers with stone hard boombap-beats. Somewhere in this flood you'll find Pikturez & BumBill. Pikturez, a guy from the deep woods of Småland, did like the old emigrants and moved out. Not to New York, like you're led to believe when you listen to him, but to Stockholm. After a while connecting through the net, Pikturez met Bumbill out on the green line. They continued to work together, and the latest work is "Urbanized Konfusion". A consistently pleasant and, according to me and Pikturez, a narrative and true record. Pikturez: [...]
Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that I love that good old traditional blues sound. But I like to experiment and listen to musicians that I think are pushing the blues envelope and truly keeping the music alive. The Sissormen are just such a group. They are coming with some of that crazy slide-guitar from Ted Drozdowski and drummer Rob Hulsman. These guys have to be heard to be believed. Check out the YouTube video below and listen to the mp3 samples. As one of the comments at YouTube stated, [...]
DOWNLOAD: Mighty Mighty Bosstones, "Shoppin' for a Friend" [mp3] If you were around in 1978, it's possible you could've bought Unnatural Axe 's legendary seven-inch "They Saved Hitler's Brain' out of the bin at Newbury Comics, then gone to see Richie Parsons's obnoxiously loud (or loudly obnoxious?) OG punk band tear the Police a new asshole at the Rat . Thirty years on, the Rat is dead, but the Unnatural Axe and Newbury Comics are still with us. They even share a birthday, which they're celebrating together with three Parsons-curated gigs at Church [...]

I feel real bad about this. All three of these bands have been in the disc changer for two weeks. I've been intending to write about them but time just slipped by. Here we are now, on the eve of me leaving and I still haven't written a single word...So let it be known, all three of these bands deserve far more attention than they are about to get. THE SCISSORMEN The Scissormen [...]
As a wee lad of thirty something everytime i'd read one of his articles i'd think "gee...when I grow up I want to be Ted Drozdowski ". Ted D was writing about all the hard and raw ass Fat Possum Records artists back in the day when nobody else was or if they were they were slaggin' 'em. Buncha blues pussies. This was back in the olden days when FP was The Only [...]
