THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: The Kills w/ JEFF the Brotherhood, Hunters Wednesday, February 1 The Masquerade - 695 North Avenue in Atlanta 30308 Admission $20 / Purchase Tickets You'd think that Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince would have run out of ideas by now. After all their, set-up is so simple—just some guitars and a drum machine cranking out punchy, pop-infused blues jams. But over the course of their four studio albums and four EPs, the duo have managed to turn their decidedly [...]

Raging blues-shouter Scott H. Biram has been the "Dirty Old One-Man Band" for so long that it's become a bit one-dimensional. He's a well-rounded artist who taps into the range of American roots traditions, all while stomping out a kickass stage performance. So hell yeah to Biram's plans to open up in 2012! In addition [...]

First I want to say that this was one of the hardest top lists I have ever done. Some of these don't deserve to be ranked any lower than the ones above them. While I didn't write as prolifically this year as I did others what I wrote about I really and truly loved. And then the other folks 'round these parts wrote about good stuff too. But the end of the year breeds top lists so I have been struggling for the past couple of weeks to actually rank these albums. I honestly will be doing some of these [...]

One rarely feels so much energy and solidarity in loneliness and despair than when one listens to Scott H. Biram's music, not the least in Bad Ingredients . His fourth album for Bloodshot Records is also one of the year's best. Scott Biram's Something's Wrong/Lost Forever was a powerful album of music ranging from field holler spiritual to stompin' blues punk; abundantly well-written, and bearing that unmistakable Biram panache of gravel, blood and tears. A song like "Still, Drunk, Still Crazy, Still Blue" is exemplary. As an anthem, it is to a contemporary underground garage, blues, alt-country crowd [...]

Bummed you missed out on those 5 bonus tracks from Biram's Bad Ingredients? Me too. Scott's got yr Xmas present right HERE .

I knew nothing of Scott before reading about him on one of my favorite blogs, Side One: Track One, so I'll borrow from them for this story..."Biram was a well established performer when he was in a horrifying accident in the spring of 2003. While driving in his truck, he was hit head-on by an 18-wheeler doing 75 MPH. Needless to say, he was lucky to be alive. But not only did he survive, just one

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 Maybe you've heard the story of Scott H. Biram, or maybe you haven't. Either way, it's worth telling again. Biram was a well established performer when he was in a horrifying accident in the spring of 2003. While driving in his truck he was hit head on by a 18-wheeler doing 75 MPH. Needless to say, he was lucky to be alive. But not only did he survive, just one month later he was wheeled onstage at the Continental Club for a show despite [...]

When we have expectations, and we all do, we sort of expect to be let down eventually. When you have an artist like Scott Hiram Biram, a 9B favorite, those expectations can be pretty high. Every album has a chance to disappoint. When you have written as many words about an artist as we have about guys like this you know that if they don't live up to their past work you can't pull any punches. We have seen it here on 9B with other bands that I won't mention here. I went in to this album, after snaking the [...]
