Cut and mastered from the original tapes and presented with their original artwork, The Collection showcases Scott’s self-written material alongside his much documented interpretations of composers such as Jacques Brel. The five albums brought together here, released by Scott Walker between 1967 and 1970 are: Scott, Scott 2, Scott 3, Scott 4 and ‘Til The Band Comes In. One of the most unique and intriguing artists to emerge in the [...]

If you haven't heard Bish Bosch, the latest release from British experimental musician Scott Walker, you must be living in some unfortunate drab cage. The record that Walker released last year is a thrilling, triumphant take on lyrical wistfulness and musical aplomb, meandering and jumping like a drunk frog. It's great, so so great. The news that Walker will be reissuing his first five solo albums into one glorious package comes as a wonderful turn in the Walker story, whose legendary ca...

Scott Walker: The Collection 1967-1970 due in June. The post Scott Walker's first five albums to be reissued as box set appeared first on Treble: Music news, reviews, interviews and more .

After pushing every boundary he could with his 2012 avant-pop masterpiece Bisch Bosh , Scott Walker will bring us back to the roots of his chamber pop in 2013. On June 3rd, Universal will reissue Walker's first five solo albums as a set, Scott Walker: The Collection 1967-1970 . The albums - Scott , Scott 2 , Scott 3 , Scott 4 and ‘Til The Band Comes In - capture Walker's transition from a teen pop star with The Walker Brothers into a theatrical baritone, whose baroque, often schmaltzy AM-radio [...]
If you can make it through all 21 minutes and 43 seconds of Scott Walker's "SDSS14+13B (Zercon, A Flagpole Sitter)," you might find yourself wondering what you'd just heard. A dystopic oratorio set to music composed while under the influence of a few hits of blotter acid found in the ink well of David Lynch's desk? The discarded libretto from [...]

Late last week, we read with interest in the NME that Nick Cave the musician was exhibiting at Grand Central. How was it, we wondered, that it had escaped our notice that Cave was working on an immersive site-specific sculpture featuring dancing horses? Happily, over the weekend we did some research and brushed up on our Cave biography, along with that of some of our other favorite musicians. Read on, and learn some things that you'll never have imagined could possibly be true! [...]

Glam-rock revivals can be a tricky endeavor. One can't simply assume the presence and personality of a David Bowie or Bryan Ferry, legends of their craft who mixed commanding vocal authority with playful creativity in their songwriting, which was often thematic and ranged from the gloomily haunting to brightly infectious romps. Recent glam-owing artists like Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and Foxygen concoct certain sounds of the past, which is a challenge in itself, but their music is so striking mainly because it possesses a sort of rare bursting personality; it's a trait exemplary of the best rock music of the '60s and [...]
Scott Walker is succeeding, devilishly well, at keeping himself to himself. Each release finds him more withheld to the point where the solipsism on Bish Bosch becomes deafening. We're still here Scott, some of us anyway, and we are not all store-room dummies. "We've gotta have a great show, with a million laughs... and color... and a lot of lights to make it sparkle. And songs - wonderful songs. And after we get the people in that hall, we've gotta start 'em in laughing right away. Oh, can't you just see it...?" -- Judy Garland, "Babes in [...]

Scott Walker , in collaboration with mixed media artists Ian Forsyth and Jane Pollard, will be premiering a sonic re-imagining of recent album, Bish Bosch , at Sydney's Vivid LIVE event from May 24th to June 10th. This is the first time Walker has allowed his music to be re-interpreted; the performance will place the audience into near darkness during the performance to allow an all-consuming sonic experience. The shows are free. Further information can be found at the Vivid Sydney site .

I received a message from Stuarto requesting I cover his show in the late afternoon hours of Friday, March 8. After a minute or two to think about it, I agreed. In all the times I've covered for his show over the past year and a half, I have never done a show that gives a nod to his show, which often features more mainstream music including a handful of tunes from the 60s and 70s. For March 8, I decided this needed to change. I pieced together quite the show for the first two [...]

For a good couple of weeks after living with Scott Walker' s latest pseudo opera Bish Bosch , I sang everything like the erratic singer-songwriter. From ABBA to Kanye West, Arcade Fire to Springsteen, everything sounded so funny in that melodramatic swing and sway of his. Well, I'm not alone in that game, as English comedian Adam Buxton recently covered will.i.am and Britney Spears' world renown club banger "Scream and Shout" to the pitch and key of Mr. Walker. Needless to say, it's a pisser. Stream it below.

Before - will.i.am and Britney Spears After - Scott Walker

So jolz and confused. The SCOTT WALKER reinterprets-slash-covers the BRITNEY's and the WILL.I.AM's terrible collaboration that was played on the radio down under too many times. SCREAM N SHOUT n play n run. N love. Plus more.
