Hey folks... We are off to get some sun. Until then, we leave you with some of our favorite interviews. See you soon... July 4th the interview show with Little Dragon July 11th the interview show with Winnipeg's Boats! (My favorite Canadian band right now!) July 18th the interview show with Chew Fu [...]
Spending time with a guy like Eamon McGrath is a bit of a mindfuck. This kid is only 22, but has put out that many records already. He has toured the coutnry countless times and he has the colorful party-binge stories you would expect from a 50-year-old roadie going thru AA's 12-Steps. Eamon's record Peacemaker is his attempt to make amends for his past mistakes and he was amazingly candid about the life of an up-and-coming Candian indie singer songwriter during our chat. [...]
Tracking down Ryder (centre below) from Mohawk Lodge is no easy task. The guy is constantly touring, recording, or doing work for his label White Whale Records . The first time I caught him, he was in the bathroom. (And no he was not taking a dump, he was recording in there.) The second time, he was about to get on stage in Montreal. Third time is always a charm. This time, I caught him on his bike, heading to meet [...]
This week, we go from crazy to insane ! Not only do I have industry expert Justin on the show to talk about his new blog, Spaceship For Sale , but I decide to test his knowledge of the industry by getting three local bands to ask him questions! So this week, we've also got Tristan from DBL Dragon , Rob from Eeek! and Kyle from Vinyl Theory [...]
When I walked up to the Biltmore to interview Leif Vollebekk , I found him closing the van and introduced myself. Turns out I was actually talking to Rolf from Acorn (the band Leif was on tour with). Leif and Rolf look uncannily alike and could easily be confused for siblings. So I guess it is luck the Acorn chose Leif to go on tour with them. Leif later told me that he was manning the merch [...]
If you were listening to music in the 90s, you will not doubt remember the track "Drinking In LA." It was one of those songs that was everywhere . You may not remember the song is by a group of Montrealers called BranVan 3000 . Back in the 1997, "Drinking In LA" exploded and suddenly a bunch of friends who had been calling the project an "electronic music collective" were suddenly touring the world and poised to become one of those cross-genre supergroups. This tsunami of success continued. BV3 got signed to [...]
Imagine yourself trapped in traffic on your way down the coast. That's when I caught Katie Stelmanis , the frontwoman of Austra . Katie and her crew have made one of the best albums for the year with Feel it Break . I urge anyone who likes electronic albums with great vocals to check it out. There is good reason why everyone compares Austra to The Knife . This week, I get Katie to [...]
Hey folks, this week we are seeing double rainbow. And things look good. This week, I have two cool acts for you to check out. the interview show with Logan Lynn & Koortwah First up, we have Logan Lynn . Logan has been around the block. He has already made it on the LOGO network and had the requisite rockstar drug-induced implosion. But all this stuff makes for great songs, right? [...]
I will call this one the sniffles interview. When I stumbled into the Biltmore , I was no where near 100%, and I was worried about not having a Kleenex to contain my snot drip, but this was the first time the entire 7 member Doomtree crew was touring together. It was my chance to get more than one member together , talking about what they do. I found Dessa asleep in a booth in the club, sick herself. After I woke her up, [...]
Every once and a while it is nice to discover the hidden gems in your own town. This week, I've found two, Blood Diamonds and Matty C . No one seems to know anything about blog sensation Blood Diamonds . So I called him up to get to the bottom of things. There is some weird dude screaming " Mass Effect " in the background. As revenge, I asked Blood Diamonds what he is singing in the shower lately. He wanted [...]
This week, things get crazy. Two bands, Blitz and Cory Lamb . Blitz is a Canadian Rapper who represents the South East Asian community. In order to find an audience for his work, he had to travel to the UK, where he went from selling CDs on the street to getting signed to a label. Now he is back in Canada and working with Canadian hip hop legends of his youth, like Choclair and Solitair , so that he can help them gain new audiences [...]
Hello folks! Ever had a band stay with you ? Every been in a band and had trouble finding a place to stay after the show? Last summer, I did a freelance piece for CBC Radio 3 on this topic. It aired today on Lanarama on CBC Radio 3. Scott Wood and Couch Surfing They usually put up these projects on their blog, so I can link to it, but they didn't this time. Sadz. I will put up my rough edit so you can [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Times Neue Roman don't sleep. They are back with a new vid. Look close for a cameo by TO's April Aliermo from the band Hooded Fang .
Click here to view the embedded video. Got this in the email the other day. TB1 is an MC from Montreal. He has started releasing original material that one of his boys describes as "a fun sound that makes it impossible not to party to." A remix of the hit "Barbra Streisand" is what got things rolling for TB1 ( below ), along with his newest release 14ME14U (One for Me, One for You) ( above ). [...]

Boats (from Winnipeg) are one of my favorite bands right now. I am not so sure why they are not getting more indie love in Canada and the US! My interview with Mat from the band was doomed from the get-go. Dodgy cell phone reception kept hijacking our conversation, but this did keep things interesting. Stay tuned for the last part of the interview where Mat says the most controversial thing a music lover could say. (Music geeks, you have [...]
I have wanted to talk with NY-based producer Chew Fu for a long time becasue he brings something really unique to the dance landscape. A typical DJ will read his crowd and then decide that maybe they need a Falke remix or Diplo remix. The set choices are limited only by the crowd's tastes and what is in the DJ's arsenal. Things are a little different at Chew Fu show. Chew Fu doesn't play other people's remixes/productions at all-he makes all [...]
Like a lot of bands this month, Bikini are on the move down to Austin for SXSW to try to captialize on some good word of mouth about their music. Bikini is two guys, Olivier Olivier and Nigel Diamond , who met in music school in Victoria, BC and now count the east coast as their home. When I reached Olivier Olivier , he was painting in Montreal, a couple of 4Lokos into his night. This is somehow fitting given the guys descibe [...]
Everyone loves Diamond Rings ! Pitchfork loves him! Robyn loves him! The UK loves him! He even has a make up sponsor! I caught John (aka Diamond Rings ) at the end of a long day. I was his last interview, so I was hoping I would catch him a little looser than his usual serious self. He was his sober self, but so earnest! It's easy to see why everyone loves him so much. [...]
When I called to interview Ghostkeeper , Shane was talking care of business-in the bathroom. Luckily, Sharon from the band spoke with me for a bit while I waited. The first thing Shane did when he got on the phone was describe himself as a B.F.I. (You will have to listen to hear what that stands for.) After that, I had no idea what to expect next. Ghostkeeper are one of the more interesting bands on the Flemish Eye label [...]
