By now most folks know where I stand on the present sensitive folk movement. Mainly that I’m over it. So today I thought I would prove I'm capable of more than just bitching and post some bands I actually like. And no, none of them formed in the 90’s. In my latest search for bands [...] The post Songs I like: Ladies Night appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

Titus Andronicus and The So So Glos: bringing back the dudes BY JORDAN MAINZER REWRITE BEGINNING. SEE EMAIL What's left to say about Titus Andronicus at this point? At least that's what I initially thought. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that the Glen Rock, New Jersey band’s show on May 4th with fellow Brooklyn DIY punks The So So Glos and Chicago-based but originally from Brooklyn band Sharpless (who sound like some sort of Thermals/Screaming Females hybrid and who [...]
[photo by Chris Casciano of PlaceNameHere blog] Last Saturday at Maxwell's , Screaming Females came out in support of their friends. The night was a special one, a party to celebrate the new Shellshag CD and to salute the DIY veterans. The Don Giovanni Records roster seem to all be friends and supporters of each other and this night was solid proof of that. Screaming Females played fourth of five bands, allowing the stars of the night to headline. And the band kept their set relatively short, eight songs in thirty [...]

Con motivo del Record Store Day , Garbage grabó junto a la banda punk Screaming Females una potente versión de Because The Night , el clásico tema de Patti Smith . El single de la versión de Because The Night será lanzado en vinilo de 10 pulgadas durante la celebración del Record Store Day [...]
For Record Store Day the GARBAGE have teamed up with the SCREAMING FEMALES to cover the PATTI SMITH's BECAUSE THE NIGHT . Comes with video footage that's fucking awesome, reminding me that their previous LP was rather incomparable to their debut. The post Sometimes We Run For Cover appeared first on wotyougot .
'90s alt-pop professionals Garbage and Jersey basement-punk heroes Screaming Females have an unlikely bond. They toured together last year, and Scremales leader Marissa Paternoster joined Garbage onstage regularly to cover Patti Smith's " Because The Night " (itself the result of an unlikely Smith/Springsteen alliance). Now they've committed that cover to wax, getting together into the studio to record as one united megaband. The cover sounds huge and ferocious. Paternoster and Shirley Manson sound pretty amazing in harmony, and Paternoster gets to play a couple of dragon-slaying guitar solos. Sophie Muller filmed the session in crisp [...]

Reunited alt-rockers Garbage and rising New Jersey rock trio Screaming Females toured together last year, and on several occasions, the two bands shared the stage to cover Patti Smith's "Because The Night". Now, they're releasing a studio version of their cover for Record Store Day (April 20th). Their recording session at EastWest Studio 1 in Hollywood was documented in black-and-white film by director Sophie Mueller and shows the fierce dynamic between the two groups, especially the frontwomen: Garbage's Shirley Manson and Females' Marissa Paternoster. Below, watch the ladies trade impassioned lines and Paternoster absolutely [...]

Obviously, the best music-related video of the past seven days is the yelling goats remix of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble," and the second best is Wale attempting to fight a Toronto Raptors announcer during a game. Neither of these, however, is an actual music video, so I had to pick five others. Those five are below. Read More...
